Hi,

I know there is often a thread like this running, but I couldn't find an active one.

I'm 39+6 with my first baby and desperate for him to arrive. I have had quite an achy back/mild period pains on and off for about a week now, but nothing seems to get started. It is so frustrating. Baby is only 1/5 engaged so I'm resigning myself to going overdue. Midwife today told me they don't induce until 12-14 days late. I really don't want to wait that long.

Just wondered if there was anyone else around feeling the same.

Also any tips for getting things started a bit quicker.

well I made the mistake last time of being gullible and believing a story on some website about how your man's "juices" are more effective if taken internally. A website written by a man obviously.

So dont fall for that one .

waitingtogivebirth · 23/10/2008 14:03

I've been bouncing on my birthing ball for days! No effect at all. I think I'm going to try pineapple next.

I don't think I'll try taking the 'juices' internally just yet. Although maybe I'll be desperate enough next week!!

ha ha bouncy me too I have had to refill my labour snacks twice
my due date today too!!

mabel1973 · 23/10/2008 16:46

conkertree - i read that one as well when i was pg with DS2!!! men'll say anything won't they!

I am feeling so heavy now, I have been determined to keep walking DS1 up to pre-school 3 times a week (about a mile in total) , but i think those days maybe numbered now.

UmSami · 23/10/2008 18:00

Ok just been given a suggestion to get things moving that i'm happy to announce has nothing to do with mans juices ...not gonna try til I reach my due date, but if anyone else wants to...
Powdered Ginger and Sesame Oil rubbed on your abdomen!
Good luck!

UmSami · 23/10/2008 18:01

Oh and eating dates was suggested too...will do that but not sure about the amount of sugar!

mad4mybaby · 23/10/2008 18:14

hi guys, not as far as you but almost 36 weeks. The pineapple thing only works if you eat like a million fresh pineapples a day so i wouldnt really bother with that one although very healthy! With currys/dates etc its because they can upset your stomach which can bring on labour.

Last sunday i caught a sick bug and was having contractions every 10 mins and was in hosp but thankfully they stopped. Well almost, i have an irritable womb so i get contractions coming randomly, even when i wee so not so good. Can barely walk today due to SPD and my pelvis being out!

Hands and knees type cleaning is supposed to be good to get moving, good time to clean the skirting boards! Also that proved with me was reflexology, there are certain points that are the womb etc and can encourage labour. I was fed up with ds1 and went to my reflexologist and she said right lets see what we can get moving and i went into labour a few hours later.

Bouncycastle · 23/10/2008 18:23

How about tempting fate? I'll book and prepay two tickets for a movie tomorrow night. You bet that labour will start as soon as the money has left my account...

nuclear · 23/10/2008 18:31

yeah I am trying to apply the rule of sod's law - as in if I don't shave my legs tonight/wash my hair etc then labour will start.

think i clutching at straws though

mad4mybaby · 23/10/2008 18:41

have you tried clary sage?

princessdaisyboo · 23/10/2008 18:53

hi everyone, im 39 weeks today mw said i could have sweep next thurs on my due date but when she examined me the baby is no longer engaged so she said that she cant do a sweep unless the baby is engaged? its been in the brim for the last two weeks but now is free, this is my 2nd so i know it normal for the baby not to engage till last min, but has anyone any tips on how to encourage the baby to engage and why they would not do a sweep if not engaged?

LolaBella · 23/10/2008 20:03

Please can i join this thread. I'm 39 + 1 with my first and getting very weary of waiting. I just can't wait any longer to meet my little man. Starting to worry more and more as the days pass that something might go wrong and just want him out now.

Any suggestions for making the time pass more quickly much appreciated.

Sympathy to everyone else on here who are still waiting

UmSami · 23/10/2008 22:25

Anything happening with anyone yet? Would be so nice to see some of that bouncing having an impact!

nuclear · 24/10/2008 10:36

....no nothing really

thought I had a trickle of waters before but not sure as I was in the shower at the time

that was about an hour ago and nothing since so maybe not...

waitingtogivebirth · 24/10/2008 11:14

I am bouncing on my ball right now and I've been for a brisk (knackering) walk. Feeling a bit periody now, although I've been here before so not getting my hopes up.

Lolabella - you sound just like me. I am so scared of something going wrong at the last minute and I just want the baby out and safe. I am three days overdue with my first right now.

I am supposed to be having a membrane sweep on Monday. but last week the baby was still 4/5 palpable. Does this mean that they won't do it.

Bouncycastle · 24/10/2008 12:15

One day overdue and nothing to report either.

It might sound funny but today I want the baby to stay inside! I've planned a nice night out at the movies and (of course) a curry before. On a Friday night, I'd much rather spend my time like that than go into labour.

LolaBella · 24/10/2008 13:35

No news from me either, i thought things might be getting started this morning as body decided to clear out (sorry far TMI) but nothing at all since.

Been to Tesco this morning and bought ample amounts of new cleaning equipment so going to blast the house this afternoon and clean floor on hands and knees in a attempt to move things along. That failing i may have to persuade dp to have sex with me tonight

Oh god i'm not even over due yet. Really feel for you ladies who are, Waiting good news on membrane sweep at least that might move things along slightly. Do you mean by 4/5 engaged that you need to be further engaged for them to do a sweep?

LolaBella · 24/10/2008 13:38

Fogot to say enjoy tonight Bouncy, i'm also going out for a meal tonight but not curry. Had one last weekend and was up all night with heartburn. Did make bubs VERY active too but can't face another night with that pain. I hope it won't be the same for you

Bouncycastle · 24/10/2008 13:55

Thanks Bella.
I also got a lot of heartburn but I'm now a gaviscon addict. I have to thank it for many good nights sleep and I even love the taste of the tablets!

waitingtogivebirth · 24/10/2008 15:09

The midwife told me the baby is still 4/5 palpable so I think that only means 1/5 engaged . Still he might be lower on Monday. I definitely feel lots of low down pressure when I walk now.

OP posts:
UmSami · 24/10/2008 23:37

Well bouncy, tonights the night for you then! Seriously, I hope you've had a good evening and lil' one does as he/she's told!
Waiting, did the walk work? Fingers crossed...
Nuclear...v.exciting!
Everyone else good luck! I hope you get some signs soon...
As for me...was convinced in the early hours that things were starting to happen, but must just have been heavy duty BH as now nothing, despite having been running around like a lunatic today! See obgyn tomorrow, she's threatening to break waters if dilation has started i'm not even 40 weeks yet so a bit but she's a friend and wants to deliver me herself, guess it a scheduling thing LOL...In my mind I'm gonna make her keep her hands off as long as possible...I really want things to happen naturally this time.

nuclear · 25/10/2008 04:31

morning all...

hoping beyond hope that things might have started for me.

woke up at 3am with strange pressure and backache and had to go to the loo (IFYSWIM) now sitting downstairs trying to keep myself occupied not having contractions as such but am getting regular period like cramps.

hope you had a lovely evening boundy - I spent mine wtching Gordon Ramsey's cook a long live (oh the glamour!!)

UmSami - nice for you to have a friend who wants to deliver your baby.

lauraw78 · 25/10/2008 06:03

I'm 39 weeks and have had 2 weeks so far of thinking I am going to go into labour any second (third pregnancy). Lots of BH, twinges, mood swings, pains down legs....the past two days though feel different, the pain is just mainly down the left handside, that includes abdomen back and groin, and here I am, 6a.m unable to sleep and feeling nothing now =( Sooooo fed up!

Have been induced both times before so have never gone into labour naturally, with me wanting a home birth, and the homebirth kit here ready and waiting, I'm hoping all of the above mean I will go pretty soon....wishful thinking I know =))

Positive labour vibes to us all I say!

Bouncycastle · 25/10/2008 09:22

The curry was lovely and spicy and... totaly ineffective. No pain, no cramps, no show, no BH, nothing! However I was very happy to see the movie undisturbed - "Burn after reading" - very funny!

The baby is still pushing a lot with her feet and elbows. Made me wonder that maybe she wants out but just can't find the exit. If she's inherited my sense of orientation no wonder.

Nuclear I hope your wait is over. Good luck!

Fingers crossed for everyone. I heard lots of babies are born during weekends!!!

LolaBella · 25/10/2008 10:23

Morning guys
Glad you had a good night Bouncy and got to enjoy your film in peace.
Any further developments nuclear? hoping that since you have not been on here for a few hours that you are off having a baby Good luck
Hi to Laura too, hope you get your natural labour this time but it seems that your little ones seem to like staying where they are

Thought things were starting last night as lots of period style cramps and feelings of pressure (i was bouncing on ball for two hours so wondering if baby has moved any lower. Went to bed but nothing since.

Can anybody describe to me how contractions feel? Obviously they hurt but how do they feel/start? I'v been having braxton Hicks for about 15 weeks so are real contractions like braxton hicks but more painful?
