I had a scan at 5 weeks on Friday. During the scan and on my report she stated the sac was empty. Now looking at my picture I’m sure I can see something in the sac?? Do you see anything or am I being silly.. Thankyou

Why are you getting aggressive with people for answering a question you asked @MummaToDAndJx ? I don't really see the point in the post if you have been told everything is okay and argue with everything PP's are saying.

MidnightPatrol · 07/07/2025 08:57

I can’t see what the point in scans this early are, given they tell you nothing at all and seem to create a lot of additional worry.

I had someone comment telling me I’ve miscarried. I don’t think I’m being rude? I’m defending my self.

I’m actually not sure tbh, I have them this early and every 2 weeks in all of my pregnancies I don’t see the point in scans before 6 weeks either tbh. I’d of much rathered waiting until 6 weeks when there’s more chance of seeing something but I’m high risk and have to have them early

Ok op

they have confirmed everything perfect

even though nothing seen

Why are you confused? It’s pretty simple
OP has had a scan at 5 weeks. At 5 weeks it is normal to see an empty sac. OP was told an empty sac is present. This is all good. This is what you would expect to see at 5 weeks.
OP has looked at scans herself, and is wondering if she can see something in the sac. OP is wondering if the sac is not in fact empty- as she can see something.
Neither of these situations require your condolences or for OP to panic and think that all is not well

I didn’t tell you you’d miscarried. I agreed you probably are fine. But you still came across very rude to me and told me I was the one who was wrong about my own experience.

Anyway. As I said. Chances are everything will be fine in your pregnancy.

Thankyou! I was literally just wondering if anyone saw anything, I didn’t expect to be told I have a blighted ovum and have miscarried. So I admit I got a little defensive. But my report said for my gestation every thing looks perfect I was just wondering if anyone saw anything in there because I can see something white that’s all. I have another scan Saturday so will know then. I wasn’t asking for them to go against the sonographer it was just a question that was all x

How I read it is OP isn’t asking for any reassurance, she’s already been reassured by professionals an empty sac is normal. She is just looking at the scan images herself, and wondering if she can see something inside the sac (which is also NOT a bad thing)

No not you, the other person said I have a blighted ovum which is a miscarriage. I apologise if I seemed rude to you. It wasn’t you that said it

Yes, this exactly, congratulations OP all seems to be going well so far - I don’t see anything in the sac but that’s totally normal for this stage (as you already know!!).

But no one can say this is a definite or not, likely not even a doctor at this stage. If anything it's a 50/50 chance that anything will grow inside the sac or not.

People on a forum like this can likely only offer advice on their own experience. It doesn't warrant rudeness and you saying people are wrong for experiencing things differently to you or how your "Google search" has informed you the experience should be.

Also, I did state that I was just going by Google with the HCG not doubling because I haven’t experienced one myself.

I expect, like many others, OP is under EPU because of recurrent MCs. 5 weeks seems early for a scan though - normally EPU won’t see you until you hit 6 weeks.

The two times I went to EPU at around 6 weeks after bleeding the scan didn’t show any signs of pregnancy, so a sac is hopefully a step in the right direction- and maybe too early to pick up on anything else. Good luck OP 🤞

I didn’t ask for advice I literally just asked if anyone could see what I’m seeing. I didn’t need people jumping on putting doubt in my head that I’m miscarrying.

Yes I’ve had 8 miscarriages, they see my from a week after first positive up until 10 weeks but all my 5 week sacs have been empty until 6 weeks, even with my 2 children. I haven’t had any bleeding luckily and I am on protesterone too, I took progesterone with my last pregnancy and he’s now 14 months x

What the bloody hell has happened on this thread?! One minute saying they aren’t a sonographer and the next minute diagnosing you with a blighted ovum 🙃

Congratulations on your pregnancy OP! I can’t see anything in the gestational sac but that’s perfectly normal at this stage. I had a scan at 6 weeks and only saw a gestational sac and yolk sac, everything progressed beautifully. Some people can see a beating heart then! Days make all the difference at this point. I hope all goes well for you x

My thoughts exactly. I asked a lighthearted question just because im nosey and wanted to see if anyone saw anything. I wasn’t asking for them to diagnose me lol. But then saying it’s a blighted ovum. I thought Jesus Christ that was not what I was expecting 😂 Thankyou I appreciate you

Defending against what? You posted a thread, with no information beyond you saying that you disagreed with a sonographer at an EPAU that the sac was empty. What did you want from the thread, OP?

Whether you meant it or not, it seemed like a woman who was perhaps slightly in denial about what she’d been told. No one is relishing sharing their experiences of HcG levels and blighted ovums, it appeared as though you needed support.

It did not appear as though you were completely happy that things were progressing normally and you just wanted, what? A bit of fun or something? Simply because you believe you can see something the sonographer didn’t.

Incorrect. I never stated I disagree. I stated I can see something. I’m absolutely not in denial because I don’t have a blighted ovum. It’s absolute facts. I don’t need to be in denial about something I KNOW isn’t the case :) why do you seem so mad that my pregnancy is progressing okay? It’s giving bitter to be honest. My pregnancy is absolutely fine and quite clearly you don’t like that. Remove your self. You’re opinion isn’t wanted here :)

You could just be a few days behind. I had a early scan at the epu, my levels was rising lovely! Had a scan and could just about see somthing forming. They said I had just turnt 5 weeks, had me.back in two days later and their was a yoke sac. So a few days make a massive difference. Your probably just under 5 weeks. Im currently 14+ and everything is fine 🙂 I will attach my first scan xx
