Loveyourlife24 · 08/01/2025 21:55

Ok guys hear me out.
got two beautiful babies with my husband
youngest is almost 1.. husband has a vasectomy 2 months ago as we agreed no more.
we had one blip outside of the time frame in terms of vasectomy (they say wait 6 months) on Xmas day night!
is this an evap line or am I pregnant??? I’ve heard of so many evap lines on clear blues!
im going mad here.

Looks like an evap line to me.

Thanks for your speedy response! I think it’s quite bad if it is an evap line for people praying for their BFP.

Did you take the morning after pill?
I'd take another test.
It's advised to have at least 20 ejaculations and have a clear specimen before unprotected sex

Irie1980 · 08/01/2025 22:21

Did your DH not have a sample checked? My DH had to have confirmation of zero sperm before we got the green light.

Loveyourlife24 · 08/01/2025 22:26

@Irie1980 @dementedpixie - no, his retest is in March. Like I said it was a “blip” (on his part to be honest, he was drunk, I am still breastfeeding so no drinks for me. I did not get the morning after pill as it was bank holiday and also rang the pharmacy the following day when it was open and they said I couldn’t have it when breastfeeding and that also breastfeeding should be a natural contraceptive. With all of that, the vasectomy (ok 1 blip).. the breastfeeding, and the fact that I was not ovulating according to my app.. I thought it would be very unlucky if it were to happen! I feel awful saying that last part as I know so many desperately trying to get pregnant (trust me, I’ve been there!!)

What age is your baby?
Breastfeeding can have a contraceptive effect if the baby is under 6 months and you haven't introduced solids or formula and don't have big gaps between feeds. It can't be relied upon though.

Loveyourlife24 · 08/01/2025 22:30

@dementedpixie - 11 months - so I guess unreliable! :(

Looks positive to me.

adviceneeded1990 · 08/01/2025 22:31

I think the colour is strong for an evap but it does seem unlikely in your circumstances! Are you late enough that a positive would show on a digital? Maybe try that.

newyearnewme25 · 08/01/2025 22:33

Try some other brands of tests too - but my bfp's looked like that...

It's very possible, the odds were much higher than you seem to think as your husband isn't in the clear at all yet and your baby is almost 1 year old so isn't likely to be feeding enough to cover you (I wasn't with a younger baby when I got a surprise positive!)

Why is it unlikely?
Sperm will still be in the semen for at least a 2-3 months after a vasectomy
Breastfeeding a nearly 1 year old isn't guaranteed to have a contraceptive effect.

Garman · 08/01/2025 22:37

You can drink alcohol when breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is not a contraceptive. You can take the morning after pill when breastfeeding. Definitely need to get your information from evidence based reliable sources. Can’t understand why you’re saying the “blip” was his fault because he was drunk when you were actually the sober one in the situation, not that it matters. It does look like a positive line to me. What a mad situation, why bother with the vasectomy when you’re not going to follow the instructions for afterwards!

rainythursdayontheavenue · 08/01/2025 22:39

Sorry, OP, that looks positive. I made DH use condoms for 6 months post vasectomy as I was so terrified that it hadn't worked!

Would it be the end of the world if it is.......

bakewellbride · 08/01/2025 22:41

My dh got his negative test 3 months after his operation, didn't realise waiting until 6 months was a thing.

whatthex · 08/01/2025 22:42

I would nearly be 99.9% sure this is negative. As I've got loads of these with these tests I refuse to buy them anymore they are terrible for the price u pay for them! Anytime I use these my tests look exactly like that! And never have been pregnant. Did it come up within the time frame?

LadyInRainbow · 08/01/2025 22:46

Sounds like you got a lot of misinformation from the chemist! And that looks a lot like a bfp sorry if that’s not what you want to hear.

Chocolation · 08/01/2025 22:49

It’s possible for vasectomies to fail. My husband had to have a 2nd vasectomy under general anaesthetic after the first one failed as one of his tubes had rejoined.

Chocolation · 08/01/2025 22:50

I would test again with a different brand in a couple of day as is perfectly possible

TheLittleOldWomanWhoShrinks · 08/01/2025 22:50

You need to be feeding day and night, with no solids, and no periods, for bf to be any use at preventing conception. Even when I was doing all that, we didn't risk it.

Have you been using the withdrawal 'method'? (Not a method of contraception).

I'm afraid that looks positive, and it's not unlikely, see above.

Iwishiwasagiraffe · 08/01/2025 22:51

It looks positive to me. Can you do a digital one?

Blondeerror · 08/01/2025 22:51

looks positive to me, quite a strong colour to the line

Waffle19 · 08/01/2025 22:52

that is an evap for sure.

Loveyourlife24 · 08/01/2025 22:54

Thanks for all the comments so far!
look as for the negative comments.. and without delving into the details of my sex life and how it happened, let’s just say I thought we were protected that night.
I am not looking for upset here, yes maybe I’ve been silly to think it would be ok after one time (this is also because I tried for years and years with nothing happening and 3 miscarriages in between) - you don’t know everyone’s individual circumstances so please be kind.
i have done another cheap test tonight which isn’t clear blue and it’s got no line!
I also would say that this line on the clear blue has got much darker after a few hours (outside of the test window)
for the person who asked would it be the end of the world - for me no. For my husband - yes.

Alittlebitwary · 08/01/2025 22:54

That 100% looks positive to me! Evap lines are nowhere near that clear and it has a blue colour.
I would re test with a different brand or digital anyway to be sure.
