Potty shots…should they be allowed?

Hi all
It makes me very uncomfortable when people post ‘potty shots’ on here, for me they should be private photos. I’ve seen a thread on here asking women to post potty shots which got alarm bells ringing. I work in children’s safeguarding so I don’t know if I’m just overly sensitive.

interested to know others thoughts? I am thinking about emailing mumsnet about it.

There's no such thing as child porn.

You can't safeguard a womb or you end up with a different spin on an old and heavily debated idea. I'd be wary of applauding anything that touches safeguarding in the uterus. Be careful what you wish for

Exactly

If you persist down this road, then you're taking rights away from the mother.

It's a gross name and also really unnecessary- just wait for your 20 week scan 🙄

I can't tell one end of a baby from another in a scan photo. It's a grey and black jumble. I really couldn't get worked up about this.

I thought 'potty shots' were taken at the 20 week scan? Although, we never got one. We just asked and was told boy, never saw any image or 'potty shot' to prove it. Is it only a thing that's done at private scans earlier then?

The name "Potty shot" is vile tacky.

I can't beleive people actually have an issue with scan pictures though.

This thread sets two very modern tropes against one another.

The first pursued by extreme pro lifers is that a foetus is but a parasite until it draws its first breath, and definitely definitely not anything even remotely resembling a human being. The second is that babies are virtually adults with their ‘dignity’ needing to be respected.

Both the above are utter BS to 99% of sensible people but, in certain echo chambers, are sacrosanct truths.

I’ve never heard the term ‘potty shots’ and it is is yucky. But scan pics? Don’t post them because they are totally boring to anyone bar parents (and not really interesting to them either, other to know the baby is healthy).

We really are entering a new Victorian era of prudery.
