I’m currently 6 weeks pregnant and am 41. Very aware of all the extra risks this brings and as my last pregnancy (at 39) all went wrong at the 12 week scan when they discovered a number of issues, I’m feel a little stressed by the next couple of months.

Just looking to see if there are many other older mums on here?

Hope your results come through for you quickly @Downtherabbithole83 @sel2223 and reassure you that all is well.

I also had my scan last week (measured just over 13 wks). They explained I'm not able to have triple screening or NIPT due to the vanishing twin as that can interfere with results meaning they aren't an accurate indicator of risk. Visually I was told all looked well with surviving twin on scan in terms of NT etc. BUT then it all got complicated. Sonographer identified a rare complication that without intervention baby is unlikely to survive. Was seen by fetal medicine consultant the next day. Only a handful of babies affected by this each year and I've been referred to a specialist in London. Huge shock. This complication is just random bad luck, no known risk factors and nothing to do with my age. Trying to keep hopeful but realistic that this might not end well.

Oh my goodness!! I'm very sorry you are dealing with this, it must have been such a shock!
Hopefully it has been picked up early and the consultant has some positive news regarding interventions etc.

I think in your position I would be telling those closest as would want their support.
Good luck with everything x

Hopefully they can get something sorted for you quickly @User0141.

I would agree with what @sel2223 about choosing to tell some people so you have the support you need. If I get high risk from NIPT I plan to be quite open about it again as I know I will need people to be understanding. Obviously this is personal preference though and you should just do whatever is right for you xx

Yes, Wednesday, and they said the results should be back in 7-10 days. Feel like everything is on hold until I get that call 🙈

Positive vibes that both our results will be absolutely fine and we might then be able to relax a bit and enjoy our pregnancies!

The nurse called me at 7:55am to give me my results. I’m clear for all three trisomies! I can’t stop crying

Oh my goodness, what wonderful news to wake up to!!! You must be thrilled, relieved..... every single emotion going! Did you find out the sex as well or are you waiting?
I am still waiting, going crazy!! Really hoping I hear something today.

We’re waiting but it wasn’t an option for us to find out as the nhs NIPT (at least where we are) doesn’t offer it - just low chance or high chance.

What a feeling to get that low chance result I bet!!
The waiting is so hard, it's torture not knowing x

Thank you, very kind of you to respond when you have so much going on
When do you get to see the specialist in London?

It's in a few days, so thankfully I don't have to wait long. I've now told a few friends who live locally and they've been amazing, as have my family, so am feeling calmer that we have support around us for childcare etc.

CortieTat · 12/09/2024 10:04

It is the NT scan day today for us. Finally we are going to find if there’s a baby there 😅, as I’m still not convinced.

I honestly don’t know what to expect. I reckon I’ll be grateful if there’s a baby in there and if the T21 risk is lower than 1:30 as that’s my baseline.

CortieTat · 13/09/2024 08:56

I got all clear yesterday, the highest risk (T21) was less that 1:2000 (started with an age-adjusted one of 1:20, which then first dropped after the midwife entered PAPP-A and free HCG) and then again dropped more with the NT number.
No soft markers of trisomies either, the scan took a very long time and she checked everything.

I'm starting to feel slightly optimistic.

@CortieTat Fantastic news 😀 Hopefully the pregnancy will now continue to go smoothly for you.

Had very detailed scan today and long discussion with consultant. He feels too risky to intervene at present so I've to go back in a couple weeks. If baby survives intervention it's chances are fairly good but the intervention itself is risky. A lot to take in really but am trying to stay positive.

Hope everyone is doing well. x

CortieTat · 20/09/2024 12:34

How is everyone doing?

I feel better now I've started the second trimester, less tired and I got back to my usual exercises which feels great, I missed them. To my great surprise I found out that my favourite Les Mills trainer, Erin Maw was pregnant (she hade a baby this July) and there are some pregnancy-adapted classes with her on my Les Mills app.

BeLemonQuoter · 20/09/2024 18:19

Hi @CortieTat, I am feeling energetic too at 23 weeks. I got a placenta Doppler scan this week, (bookies in because of the high inhibin-a levels in my blood), and it turned out that my umbilical cord han only one arteries instead of two. Apparently it happens in 1% of the pregnancies and most of the time it is not accompanied by anything bad. So far it looks like that's my case, but it might bring the delivery date forward if there is any growth restriction later. I am not that worried at the moment: baby girl is in 70th centile, healthy and I started feeling the kicks finally :)

CortieTat · 23/09/2024 15:23

@BeLemonQuoter it sounds scary! It’s good to hear that she’s growing well and you’re both monitored.
I can’t wait for the kicks!
