Hi!
We had a private gender scan this week at 15+5 weeks.
The lady said it's a boy, and said she was certain.
However, has anyone had this kind of definitive answer/photo, for it to end up being a girl? I know it happens the other way around fairly often, but can a girl be mistaken for a boy at this stage?
Has anyone given birth and found out boy they were expecting is actually a girl?
Would love to hear of any examples of this. Thanks!

I don't imagine it's that common for a sonographer to mistake a prnis for a limb at 20-30 weeks etc but maybe at this early stage sexing is more tricky?

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/07/2024 11:00

What's the point of having a private scan to find out your baby's sex if you're not going to believe what the sonographer tells you?

If this is wishful thinking because you really really want a girl, please try to put this out of your mind and look forward to meeting your beautiful baby boy. He doesn't deserve to be a disappointment to his mother before he's even born.

Forgot to add the photo! Could this be a swollen girl, or are we saying boy for sure? Thanks! :-)

My sonographer told me at 16 weeks it's a 90% accuracy and you can't have better accuracy until your 20 week scan. Wait until your next scan and ask to confirm x

ContentSolitude · 18/07/2024 11:07

Looks like my boys. I'd be pretty confident they were right.

Roselilly36 · 18/07/2024 11:11

Congrats looks like a boy to me, I found out with both of my two, said boy at scan, right both times!

InTheRainOnATrain · 18/07/2024 11:12

Internet randoms looking at a picture aren’t going to know more than the professional so I’d know whose opinion I’d trust! But in my totally non medical opinion I think that looks like my boy scans and not my DD. And as you say I’ve heard of a few people being told girl and it ends up being a boy but never of it happening the other way around. So if sonographer says they’re certain I’d believe them. And presumably you have another scan at 20 weeks so can get it reconfirmed then?

K0OLA1D · 18/07/2024 11:12

I'd say that looks pretty much definitely a boy.

Congratulations!

WetBandits · 18/07/2024 11:14

Well, there’s swollen and then there is that! I cannot imagine how that could possibly be anything other than a penis.

violetposie · 18/07/2024 11:20

Doesn't look like my girl did!

Peonies12 · 18/07/2024 11:28

I had no idea what was on my scan pics, just wait for 20 weeks - it's never 100% and it doesn't matter!

IdgieThreadgoodeIsMyHeroine · 18/07/2024 11:29

You really need to accept the fact that you are having a boy.

mamacitas7 · 18/07/2024 12:05

No it's very definitely a boy.. why are you hoping the sonographer was wrong and it's a girl? Very odd

Megifer · 18/07/2024 12:07

I don't think there's any mistaking that's a boy 😬

Bit harsh.
Maybe she just wants to buy boys clothes and baby bits and decorate a room knowing that it will be suitable.
Isn't that why we all find out what we'll have, so we can start shopping?

Nursemumma92 · 18/07/2024 12:21

No mistaking that, definitely a boy. A girl can be swollen and give the appearance of testicles but that is definitely a penis there.

DramaAlpaca · 18/07/2024 12:21

That, my dear, is most definitely a boy.

I sense that you are slightly disappointed, and I really can't understand why. Don't be disappointed. Enjoy your little boy. I have three of them, now grown, and they are amazing.

Yeah and it's clear as day looking at the scan photo and OP has been told by a professional that they are certain it's a boy.. what more clarification is needed?! It's clear the op is in denial for some reason and it has nothing to do with decorating/buying clothes, there are plenty of gender neutral clothes our there.

"... knowing that it will be suitable."

Christ. Would you care to explain what clothes/room decorations would be unsuitable for a baby based on their genitals?

MonsteraMama · 18/07/2024 12:32

Why are you suspicious?

That's very much a boy, though I don't know why you bothered paying for a professional's opinion if you're not going to believe them.

MrsSlocombesCat · 18/07/2024 12:36

I’ve always thought it’s not a good idea to find out the gender of a baby before birth if you are hoping for one or the other. When I had my boys (five of them) it wasn’t possible and I am so thankful. Once they are born, they’re not just a boy or girl they are a little human being in their own right and you fall in love.

PurpleChrayn · 18/07/2024 12:41

Boy.

Sunshineafterthehail · 18/07/2024 12:42

A girl scan would clearly show 3 white lines.... That is a penis on your scan..

BlastedPimples · 18/07/2024 13:06

A lovely little boy.

Lucky you.

Enjoy your baby.
