Is this really a boy? Gender suspicion.

Hi!
We had a private gender scan this week at 15+5 weeks.
The lady said it's a boy, and said she was certain.
However, has anyone had this kind of definitive answer/photo, for it to end up being a girl? I know it happens the other way around fairly often, but can a girl be mistaken for a boy at this stage?
Has anyone given birth and found out boy they were expecting is actually a girl?
Would love to hear of any examples of this. Thanks!

Eek, lots of nastiness here. It's a genuine question, and it's also totally acceptable to be a bit disappointed.
I just wanted to know if there's even the slimmest chance that this is wrong.

Why are you suspicious?

That's very much a boy, though I don't know why you bothered paying for a professional's opinion if you're not going to believe them.

Er, because there's infinite examples of private scans being wrong...

If there’s infinite examples of them being wrong then why pay for one? Confused

It looks like my DSs - both our sons are brilliant Smile

TomatoSandwiches · 18/07/2024 17:06

Looks like both of my sons bottom shots, like a pp mentioned, swollen girl parts can be mistaken for testies but there is nothing like that here, very clearly a penis.

Congratulations.

Yup. Very clearly a penis.

Some people, honestly 😅. I’m the same OP, having a boy and still can’t believe it because of all the stories you hear about scans being wrong!

Surely there's more stories of girls being mistaken for boys though, a penis is much more identifiable than a vulva.
I'd be more suspicious about being told baby was a girl than boy.

LW678 · 18/07/2024 17:20

@TomatoSandwiches yep absolutely but you still hear stories of being told a boy and they end up being a girl 🙂

I suppose ultrasounds aren't infallible, hopefully op will get the same result at her anomaly scan which should be reassuring.

Tygertiger · 18/07/2024 17:24

Of course it’s not 100%. What are internet randomers going to tell you? We all know examples of where people have been told the wrong sex at a scan. If only 100% accuracy will do, then the best approach is to not bother with a scan and wait until the birth.

FWIW, I was hoping for a girl with my first, and chose not to find out for exactly that reason - I didn’t want to be disappointed. As it happens, I had a boy. As soon as he was born it was impossible that he could be anything other than himself and I didn’t care what sex he was. And now he is a teenager and he is the most funny, caring, quirky boy and I look back on myself and wonder why on earth I had any preference at all. He is 100% the child I was meant to have and I wouldn’t swap him for a thousand girls.

Newsenmum · 18/07/2024 17:25

It’s coming out a LOT to just be a swollen girl

Of course it's ok to be disappointed. I do think that is a boy though and I'm sure you'll feel differently when you meet him.
Whatever anyone says gender disappointment is real which is why there's articles on it on baby sites but this is mumsnet woman should be happy with what they get and be glad they have a healthy child.
No such rule for men though who are allowed to (naturally) want a son.

YaWeeFurryBastard · 18/07/2024 17:28

They are sometimes wrong if they can’t get a good view, yours is very clear though a definitely a boy, congrats!

It’s a shame you’re disappointed. It looks very much like little boys 16 week scan and not at all like my little girls 16 week scan.

baby boys are wonderful. Huge congratulations

Kellyaust · 18/07/2024 22:00

Wow....the nastiness on this thread 🤦‍♀️

OP yes that's definitely a boy lol

It's fine to ask, it's also fine to have some gender disappointment, and it's also fine to want to buy the right colour or decorate a room how you'd want a boys room to be.... Just because most people these days are all for gender neutral doesn't mean everyone has to be!!!

Forgot to add the photo! Could this be a swollen girl, or are we saying boy for sure? Thanks! :-)

That’s definitely a boy 😆

MixedCouple2 · 19/07/2024 21:19

My BFF was told girl at 20 weeks then at 32 weeks was told Boy!
As a Radiographer we always say chance of being wrong. Never 100%.
My Midwife Sonographer couldn't tell until my 32 week scan! 20 week scan and 28 week growth scan they couldn't see the anantomy and were not certain.

What would the "right colour" be for a boy's room?

It really seems like you COULD care less whether or not she agrees with you, judging by your ranty reply...

Boy. I have two of each. Girls are very clear on a scan.

YouveGotAFastCar · 20/07/2024 18:20

Not on that scan, he’s a boy and not shy about it. Sometimes swelling and things can make it more debatable, but there wouldn’t be swelling to that degree.

Congratulations. Boys are great, I hope the disappointment doesn’t last too long x

No, I have only known boys being mistaken for girls.
Lines show up really clearly, but testicles- lbh 😁 just look like a bit of a mess!

Jump on the band wagon.... Actually no I COULD NOT care less...she had an issue with what I said but sorry yeah I forgot we aren't allowed to fight back if we don't agree with things these days 😂😂😂
