I should add good luck to those with upcoming scans. I was in the epu at the start of this pregnancy due to cramping and previous loss. The midwife assured me that the progesterone wouldn't mask an MMC which I was very worried about. She said if anything it can cause spotting due to cervix irritation. I hope all the scans go well today 🤞

That’s good to know, I read otherwise unfortunately!

but we have got to stay positive regardless right?!

@Sez281 so happy for you!
yes I totally get the anxiety coming off progesterone. I struggled with it too.
the good thing is you start to feel baby soon after so you get that reassurance!

considering I’m going through this again after 1 successful pregnancy and a couple losses I thought I’d be less anxious, I’m just as anxious now and probably will be throughout! Totally fine though, worked out in the end with my baby!

@Twinkletwinklelil I totally get the anxiety. I think after loss all the joy is robbed from pregnancies 😞, all we can do is take each day as it comes. It's great that you have previous experience and a successful outcome with the progesterone so it may give you a little reassurance (although I know the wait for a scan feels like a lifetime away 🙈)

Even though my scan yesterday went really well it still doesn't feel real to be honest. Maybe it's my brain subconsciously protecting myself after the losses. I'm hoping that as time passes and I hopefully start to feel movements that it will feel more real and we can start to look forward and get excited 🙏 🌈

I’ve had some sad news this and my baby has died, we found out at a private scan at 10 weeks. Baby stopped growing at 8.5 weeks after seeing a heartbeat at 6.5w. I’ve had MC before but they all started on their own, however the progesterone has masked this one and it’s a MMC. I still have all my pregnancy symptoms and it’s really cruel. I’m keeping taking the progesterone until my surgery because I don’t want it to happen on its own.

The progesterone did give me my little boy 6 years ago who I carried to 42 weeks with absolutely no issues and I was weaned off the pessaries at 16 weeks.

I think this time I’ve been super unlucky 💔😔

Can I ask, when did you ladies start taking it? Was it before your BFP when TTC or as soon as you got your BFP? With this pregnancy I wasn’t able to get any until 6 weeks 🤦‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️😞

hopingforapeainapod · 10/04/2024 11:49

@Jellybelly888 I’m so sorry for your loss - there are no words, I just hope you’re getting lots of support and try to be as kind as possible to yourself over the next few weeks. I took mine from 1DPO, so before I got a positive pregnancy test, but I think it’s different for everyone - my friend took it as soon as she got a positive pregnancy test…

Sez281 · 10/04/2024 12:10

@Jellybelly888 I said it on another thread but again I'm so sorry 😞 My progesterone was prescribed for when I got a BFP so I had the prescription ready to go. However I'd been trying for 10 cycles and I had some left over from my loss last year so I took 200mg from 3DPO (once I confirmed ovulation with opks & bbt) and it worked. I'm convinced that it extended the short luteal phase and allowed it to stick. I then upped my dose to 2x400mg a day from my BFP as per consultants advice.. I think when you feel ready to try again have a conversation with your gp or consultant about starting it earlier. If you have any left over now maybe hang in to it so you don't have to wait 6 weeks again. In the meantime look after yourself ❤️‍🩹

Jellybelly888 · 10/04/2024 12:44

Thank you that’s really helpful. I think I’ll make sure I have some left over and start earlier instead ❤️ xx

Twinkletwinklelil · 10/04/2024 13:09

@Sez281 really glad your scan went well. Are you having regular scans now until you’re off the progesterone?
fingers crossed for you xx

@Jellybelly888 im so sorry. It sent bolts of fear and sadness through me.

last time (successful) I started progesterone at 5 weeks when I had my positive.
This time 6+1 positive.

sending you love and strength during this difficult time.

Oh @Jellybelly888 I’m so very sorry to hear that. Truly awful news and I wish there were words that could help, but know there aren’t.
I started progesterone 8 days prior to embryo transfer (IVF).
Take care of yourself xx

Sez281 · 10/04/2024 17:40

I'm off the progesterone 2 weeks now @Twinkletwinklelil I'm getting scans every 4 weeks until 28 weeks then it'll be every 2 weeks with my consultant. Things seem to be going ok since I've come off it but it is nice to have the reassurance of a scan. Hopefully in a few weeks will have some movement for some extra reassurance 🙏 I hope the next week until your scan goes by quickly for you x

Twinkletwinklelil · 12/04/2024 21:25

Anyone else getting spots on progesterone?!
really annoying me that I’ve broke out on my cheeks 🤣😥

@Twinkletwinklelil not so much on my face but my back / chest / shoulders are ridiculous! Making me self conscious for summer but have no idea how to treat them when it’s surely so hormonal…

Twinkletwinklelil · 17/04/2024 11:21

I had a scan yesterday. Saw a heartbeat and baby.
since then I’ve been so stressed out as my symptoms seemed to have faded today. I know it’s still morning but I’m honestly so stressed out :(

Sez281 · 18/04/2024 08:11

Just saw your update @Twinkletwinklelil how are you doing today? I'm sure you've researched it but apparently it's very common for symptoms to come and go. The fact that you had a positive scan the day before is amazing, please try and hold on to that 🤞How far are you now?

Twinkletwinklelil · 18/04/2024 09:31

@Sez281 thank you. Turns out my symptoms hit me HARD afternoon/evening..
crazy how much we stress!

im 7-8 weeks but on the scan I measured smaller. They said not to worry as the scans can be wrong but obviously I worried! lol
how are you doing?

OP posts:
Sez281 · 18/04/2024 10:00

@Twinkletwinklelil I bet you've never been so happy to feel crap! 😂 So glad to hear the scan went well, measuring a bit behind is perfectly normal at this stage. Hopefully it's not too long until your next one.

I'm doing ok thanks, 15 weeks today and I woke up this morning for the first time feeling like a fog has lifted and symptoms are properly easing (trying not to worry and tell myself it's a good thing) I have my 16 week scan and consultation on Monday so that's the next big milestone 🙏

Twinkletwinklelil · 18/04/2024 22:37

@Sez281 oh amazing! Second trimester is bliss!! Enjoy it 🙂
so nice that the dog has lifted for you!
Hope your scan goes well on Monday ♥️

honestly, celebrating how rubbish I feel is wild 🤣🤣 todays been so tough.. I suppose approaching the 9th week soon will do that though 🤮🤮

Just updating - and reaching out to see how everyone is getting on?

have our 12 week scan today. This trimester has been hell!
still anxious, thought I’d have felt baby a fair bit by now but I have no idea.
bloating every day has been extreme. Sick of the smell of progesterone lol.

Hope you are all ok??

OP posts:
HopefulElle · 16/05/2024 08:04

@Twinkletwinklelil good luck today! When do you finish progesterone? I’m 11 weeks on Monday, my scan isn’t until week 13 but I’ve been told to stop progesterone at week 12. I’ll be very happy to make it out of this first trimester!! 🤞🏼

I’ve just got back from a few days away, thankfully nausea wasn’t too bad and I was able to get lots of naps in to help with the constant tiredness! X

HubbaNubba · 16/05/2024 08:42

I’ve been on progesterone since just before 6 weeks due to a bleed early on and a MMC before Christmas. The bleeding turned out to be a small hematoma which I think stopped about week 8-9. I’m currently 14+2 and had our scan last week. Thankfully everything looks great and healthy so far, and I can come off the progesterone at 16 weeks.

I was thinking of kind of tapering down at around 15-ish weeks (partly because I’d need a new prescription to keep going with 2x2 tablets a day till 16 weeks, and partly because I’m worried about stopping abruptly). Does anyone know if that’s ok to do?

Wise0wl · 16/05/2024 09:00

@Twinkletwinklelil good luck for your scan! Anyone on progesterone and yet still have spotting? I’m 11 weeks and had a scan earlier this week and baby looks ok, I just didn’t think it would continue for so long.

@HubbaNubba like you I’ve been advised to take them til 16 weeks but even then wasn’t sure whether to just stop them abruptly? It’s hard to know. Though given others are advised to stop at 12/13 weeks (from what I’ve read) there seems to be mixed opinion on it. Maybe best to check with your midwife?

Sez281 · 16/05/2024 09:11

Glad to hear all is going well @Twinkletwinklelil The best of luck with your scan today! 🤞

@HubbaNubba I'm 19 weeks today and stopped progesterone completely at 12 weeks on the advice of my consultant. I was terrified to stop it abruptly but she assured me that it was done as she could see that the placenta had completely taken over. Check with your midwife/consultant just to be sure what is best for you but rest assured that you should be fine when stopping it
