Hi everyone, we had our baby boy at 4pm this afternoon and feeling a bit in shock at how fast it happened.

Waters broke at 2.30pm, we arrived at hospital at 3.30pm and he was born in triage at 4pm. I spent a long time in reception crying for someone to help me and the receptionist didn’t act even though I was the only one in labour. A midwife thankfully heard me and raced me to a triage bed where he was born about five minutes later, but I felt really abandoned being in such a vulnerable and painful state and being ignored when I asked for help.

Nevertheless I’m really happy he’s here (not feeling any irritation at him anymore about my prolonged early labour!) and that health wise we both seem to be doing okay. I have a second degree tear - midwife thought it was third degree for a second but the doctor confirmed it wasn’t - still seems like she did quite a few stitches though.

Good luck to everyone still waiting - I know how hard it can be!

SarahB88 · 24/05/2024 21:30

@PeppedUp omg that sounds awful for you! I’m glad your baby has arrived safely and that you’re doing ok. Sending you hugs for what you went through though!

Sa11yCinnamon · 24/05/2024 21:55

Oh my goodness @PeppedUp that sounds pretty traumatic, I hope you’re doing ok now. Massive congratulations on having your wee boy xx

Fingers crossed something happens for you soon! @Sa11yCinnamon

Congratulations @PeppedUp i'm sorry you had to experience that, but i'm glad you and baby are doing well! sounds like a fast labour! 💕

I've had a turn in my pregnancy, 39 weeks tomorrow had my last growth scan today, i have been low risk and baby has been growing fine all the way up till todays scan that showed her growth dropping, also the placenta isn't functioning as it should be. I had the same with my previous but we knew early on, this time w were hoping for a natural birth without induction so i was completely shocked that baby's growth has slowed down and they basically said needed induction because of placenta disfunction

Long story short - i was in tears & got really worked up. had a sweep straight away. MW said i was 1CM but cervix was firm and at the back. have had a few cramps and back aches nothing major.
They reckon 3rd pregnancy and i've had 2 vagina births from induction this time should be the same. Fingers crossed

I'm due to go back in on Tuesday for CTG monitoring & a second sweep. fingers crossed i can go in naturally.
I guess Main thing is baby is healthy and well

TheBirdintheCave · 25/05/2024 07:53

@PeppedUp Augh I'm so sorry that happened to you 😭 I find they're so obsessed with what a 'normal' labour looks like that they forget there are people like us who go from one to one hundred in minutes 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

Congratulations on the birth of your baby though! Glad you're both safe. Enjoy your snuggles! 🥰

Sa11yCinnamon · 25/05/2024 09:37

@nh93 fingers crossed for you too!! I know the main thing is that our babies are ok but it’s totally fine to hope things go a certain way too x

I've not experienced too much unsolicited advice in pregnancy so far but the number of people - including some I haven't seen in years - who are now telling me to have sex is staggering 🤯 I'm no prude but it wouldn't cross my mind to send that to someone?!

OP posts:
SarahB88 · 25/05/2024 11:26

@Sa11yCinnamon Wow I don’t even have any words for that! It’s amazing how being pregnant invites so many inappropriate comments from people.

We had our first MIL thing yesterday on that sort of topic. She popped in to drop off some smaller baby clothes which was really lovely but we were actually busy with our solicitor signing the transfer of title deeds for the house so just gave the baby to MIL. We didn’t notice until everyone had left that all the windows had been opened, my partner reckons it was his mum thinking the room was stuffy so she opened them! We are quite anxious about temperature for baby being dressed and sleeping so have made quite an effort to ensure the house is a consistent temp 🙄 not the worst but probably the start!

Athena1984 · 25/05/2024 13:01

Congratulations everyone who already had their little ones 🙂. I am 40w 6 days today! Already had 2 sweeps, no contractions at all! Baby is too comfortable in there. MW during the first sweep said, I am about 2 cm dilated, cervix softened. Another sweep booked for Monday and induction meeting on Tuesday, most likely the rods will be used. It is uncomfortable now, I have been having dates, raspberry leaf tea, roll in the hay ( as MW put it) but none of them working 😂

PeppedUp · 26/05/2024 06:03

Thanks everyone - we’re back home now and feeling very happy to have him around. Just trying to relearn how breastfeeding works - my son has decided he wants to BF again after being weaned a year ago and got really sad when I told him it was just for the baby 🥺

@TheBirdintheCave 100%! Physically it was great to have a labour that was over and done with really quickly, but the support I got in my previous birth meant I felt so much more positive about it even though it was way longer and resulted in a forceps delivery.

@nh93 sorry to hear things have changed so late and fingers crossed that your sweeps help. Likewise for you @Athena1984 !

Regarding people talking about having sex, I also found it a bit weird! My partner’s colleague told him we needed to be having lots of it and the midwife said the same thing to us when we were both at the appointment. In saying that, we did give it a go and my waters broke very quickly after 😳

thank you! i've got a few cramps don't think anything's going to happen, got a next one on Tuesday so fingers crossed

hope you get the hang of BF soon ❤️

I cant believe the sex questions i also just thought it was a myth i've never tried just before labour but now it sounds tempting! 😂 Mind you i can imagine how awkward and uncomfortable it would be with my big belly 🤣

how's everyone else doing? how many babies left to be born?

Sa11yCinnamon · 26/05/2024 10:22

We've tried sex, no effect so far 😆

None of the people telling me to do it have any idea if I am or not which is what strikes me as so odd about it. Like, "thanks for the tip Carol, just finished actually. Cracking shag."

Hilarious that people from typically prudish nations suddenly become emboldened to make comments/suggestions about your sex life😅 still waiting for baby here, due date is on Wednesday but I had a strong feeling it would arrive early. The cramps, backaches, nausea and extreme fatigue are on and off.
@PeppedUp your experience sounds traumatising, I hope you are OK, enjoying your baby and have plenty of support x

Athena1984 · 27/05/2024 15:10

@Sa11yCinnamon same here! Sex made no difference! 2 sweeps made no difference to the 2cm dialation either. Tomorrow going for the induction, not sure what they are going to suggest! I am 41wk 2 days !

Sa11yCinnamon · 27/05/2024 15:32

@Athena1984 good luck tomorrow, let us know how you get on! My induction will be at 41+3 so very similar boat. Since yesterday I've had quite bad sciatic pain so having to cut my walks right down, I am definitely over all of this now.

OP posts:
PeppedUp · 27/05/2024 15:42

@Yourowgirl thank you ❤️ Feeling better now we’ve been home a couple of days and becoming more consumed with newborn life, but I’m still going to try and speak to someone about it at some point.

Good luck waiting for your little one and likewise to everyone else still waiting.

For those with babies already here, how are you finding breastfeeding? I’m finding he always falls asleep, which means lots of little feeds and is really tiring. I can’t really remember the early days with my son so can’t remember if we went through the same thing.

PeppedUp · 27/05/2024 15:48

Good luck tomorrow @Athena1984 !

@Sa11yCinnamon I got sciatica like pains in the last week or so. So annoying when you can’t take much in the way of pain relief!

Mum2b2024 · 27/05/2024 17:02

@MrsB2005 congratulations :)
@PeppedUp congratulations bit sorry to hear was a bit traumatic.
Hope everyone else is doing and people still waiting.

We had a baby born on 20/5/24 weighing 6lb 4 at 13.03. He's adorable. Had a planned c section which has been tough and v up and down. Starting to be able to move a bit better since the dressing came off at the weekend.

SarahB88 · 27/05/2024 17:57

Congratulations @Mum2b2024 I had my section on the 17th and after the dressing came off the recovery has been so much better. Make sure you take your pain killers on time regularly, I made the mistake of losing track of time and was very sore on Saturday! I have managed my first proper walk outside today with the pram and feel better for it so hope you’re on the mend soon.

nh93 · 27/05/2024 20:39

@PeppedUp he could be cluster feeding? i remember with my son he used to do that a lot for the first few weeks x

@Mum2b2024 congratulations 💕 hope you recover soon x

@Athena1984 goodluck! hope it all goes well for you, i've got my appt tomorrow for 2nd sweep and induction date. nervous but excited!

Emmacb82 · 27/05/2024 21:16

Congratulations to the new arrivals!

@PeppedUp we are almost 3 weeks into breastfeeding and she is still pretty much living on the breast! Sometimes she will go a couple of hours between feeds but other times it’s constant. They do a lot of cluster feeding in the early days to build up supply so it sounds normal. I found with my last baby it took till about 10 weeks to feel fully established. It is very tiring and time consuming which I’m dreading tomorrow as husband is back at work and I’m home with 3 kids! Wish me luck 🤣

LondonGirl1992 · 27/05/2024 23:11

I’m also struggling with BF- he is so big and so lazy on the boob (falls asleep) so we top up every feed with 90ml expressed breast milk. I’m kind of sad I can’t exclusively BF but he doesn’t take enough 😭

Mum2b2024 · 28/05/2024 15:02

@SarahB88 thank you! Ah that's good to hear. I deffo feel can manoeuvre a bit better with it off! Just getting in and out of bed and up and down the hardest. Thanks, yes will do. I slipped a bit one day and did make it harder. Oh wow that's good to hear. Well done :) hopefully I'll be able to do that this week too! Hope Ur recovery continues to go well and on the mend soon!m

@nh93 thank you! :)

Thanks all!

Mum2b2024 · 28/05/2024 15:05

@PeppedUp good luck!!

@LondonGirl1992 oh bless u! Ur doing the best u can and u gotta do what works best for u all. As long as he's getting enough it's ok ❤️ Ur doing great!

PeppedUp · 28/05/2024 18:23

@Mum2b2024 congratulations! Sorry to hear recovery is tough - hope it’s getting better day by day x

Thanks everyone regarding breastfeeding. He’s been better at latching longer overnight and today. He was doing less than five minutes but is now doing at least 20-30 minutes and getting lots of wet and dirty nappies so feeling more confident that things are improving.

@LondonGirl1992 sorry to hear you’re having to express (I would still consider that exclusively BFing but I don’t know all the technical terms). I was also worried my son was being a bit lazy with his latch but he seems to have become a bit more awake over the last 24 hours. His latch is still far from efficient but it’s given me hope he can get better.
