I've started on the perineal massage using a peri mom, no idea if it's working but that along with dates and raspberry leaf tea make me feel I am doing all I can!

Had my 36 week appointment yesterday, baby is 3/5 engaged and can definitely feel and see her lower down.

Yourowgirl · 16/04/2024 13:19

@Sa11yCinnamon week 34 of Jessie Ware's Is It Normal podcast explains how to do perineal massage. How did your baby sprinkle go?
@PeppedUp we thought it was too early but some neighbours advised us to apply for a nursery place already. I don't like adding to the problem of oversubscription and waiting lists, but we'll be stuck if we don't get a place so have filled in a form with the maximum days we'd be looking at. The only information I could put about the baby was last name and due date, as we don't know what we're having!
Thanks everyone for your kind comments following my mental health post. Husband and friends have been really supportive, I've been feeling better since the weekend but still talked it through with the midwife today and she's going to send me some resources.
Welcome @Irishmamatobe24 I would try not to worry about baby blues before they happen, but it's definitely useful to read up about mental health issues that can arise postpartum to be prepared. So sorry you lost your Dad during your pregnancy.

Hi all!
I'm 36+1 today just had a scan as they were questioning low lying placenta at 20 week scan
When they tried abdominal scan they couldn't see my cervix as they said baby girls head was engaged and extremely low down! They had to do an internal scan and then confirmed my placenta has moved away from my cervix but said my cervix has started to shorten and thin?! Anyone know what this means does it indicate labour is close or not at all haha
Thanks!!

SarahB88 · 16/04/2024 13:43

@Sa11yCinnamon I’m going to ask, I have my appointment next week and I’ll be closer to 37 weeks than 36 at it just with the days my midwife comes to my GP practice so I’ll see what she’s saying. I can’t get up today with lightening crotch and needing to pee so she’s definitely in a different lower position.

For those doing perineal massage, there’s some helpful videos on YouTube that demonstrate what to do with an anatomy prop. I’m a visual learner so that helped me a lot more than looking at articles or listening to someone talk about it.

I’m also on the dates and raspberry leaf tea, they’re both so yummy I’m finding it really easy! I’ve been throwing some pineapple in the mix too but don’t think it’s anywhere near enough to actually do anything. I finish work next Friday so I’m looking forward to going on walks with my parents and their dog to try and help things along as well. Hospital bag is now fully packed and ready to go. I need to figure out how the tens machine works at some point too.

Sa11yCinnamon · 16/04/2024 14:35

@Yourowgirl thanks, I'll listen to that! I did watch an animated video but it just feels odd so I question myself. Baby sprinkle was really nice, very low key and had cake, just what I wanted!

Clarkey34 · 16/04/2024 16:43

@PeppedUp We have chosen the nursery we want to send her to, but not actually filled the forms in yet, as hoping grandparents might have her a couple of days to bring the cost down, but we should get the start date we want, as their current waiting list is only until October.

I feel all sorted now, last bits arrived yesterday. All her clothes are washed, hospital bag packed, except for some snacks.

Got another growth scan & consultant appointment tomorrow, there is still talks they will induce me because of baby being massive, so hopefully I will know more tomorrow.

Only 8 more working days to go, until i finish for maternity leave. Is anyone else on the count down to finishing work? I'm definitely ready.

Sa11yCinnamon · 16/04/2024 17:16

@Clarkey34 I've got 13 days left at work, cannot bloody wait to be done!

OP posts:
Yourowgirl · 16/04/2024 18:19

I also finish on 3rd May, and really looking forward to it!

SarahB88 · 16/04/2024 18:27

@Clarkey34 I’ve got 8 days left too and cannot wait! I work from home and have had the first person ring to say goodbye because she won’t catch me next week, it’s feeling quite real because of that!

My parents have got the same cybex cloud car seat as us second hand for £50 today! Quite jealous of the bargain and I think I prefer their colour to the one we got 🙈

Nelliepledge · 16/04/2024 21:42

Is anyone planning some pre baby pampering? 😂 and what beauty treatments are we going for 😂xxx

PeppedUp · 16/04/2024 23:35

@Nelliepledge I booked a haircut and treatment today, plus planning a pregnancy massage in the next couple of weeks and maybe a pedicure when I start maternity leave (although I know some people can be a bit weird about touching feet in case it starts labour). Also my partner and I are going to take a day off and go out for lunch while our son is at nursery.

Very jealous of everyone in their last days of work. I’m towards the end of May and trying to save most leave for after baby arrives so I’ve still got a month to go.

@Yourowgirl and @Sa11yCinnamon - totally agree that that it feels weird applying before they’re born. We have a name but I still felt weird writing it down as it made me
feel like we can’t change it now! @Clarkey34 thats great if you can get grandparent support to bring down the ridiculous costs!

Sa11yCinnamon · 17/04/2024 10:48

@PeppedUp omg yes, we're settled on a name but I'm scared to say it out loud in case I go off it (which I think would break my partner's heart). I have it written on a note in my phone and go in to look at it every so often 😂

Does anyone else's little one hiccup multiple times a day? I swear she does it 3/4 times a day but hoping that's normal!? xx

junebuglb · 18/04/2024 15:58

Well… Hello from hospital. My cord has decided to be a bit shite and misbehave. Now staying in hospital until baby girl is here. Stunning shared bay set up. It will be a c-section likely within the next few days. She’s a tiny one but proud of her for smashing all of the monitoring. Let you guys know how everything goes. This last part has been extremely draining and stressful but we’re on the home stretch and the thought of meeting her soon is keeping me going. x

Emmacb82 · 18/04/2024 16:18

@junebuglb sorry to hear that you are in hospital but just keep picturing holding her in your arms! It’s much better that you are there and being monitored to make sure she is safe. Looks like you’ll be having an April baby! Get plenty of rest if you can and take care :)

Sa11yCinnamon · 18/04/2024 16:31

Oh @junebuglb I can't imagine how stressful that must be, but I'm glad to hear you're in the best place and you've got to a good gestation, she'll be strong. Take it as easy as you can and keep us posted xx

SarahB88 · 18/04/2024 16:59

Aw @junebuglb thinking of you but at least they caught the cord issue. How exciting that you get to meet your baby soon!

I’ve had a bit of a day today! I got a pay increase which was unexpectedly high, finally settled with my ex to get him bought out of the house (this has been a bit of a battle for nearly 3 years!), finished a huge part of my handover and found out we’re going to be aunty and uncle again in October!! My partners sister is having another baby at the end of October 🥰 so excited to have a cousin so close in age. We’ve already got play dates on maternity planned 😂

Sa11yCinnamon · 18/04/2024 17:13

@SarahB88 wow, congratulations on all of that!! My sister is pregnant too, due four months after me and I'm so excited to have cousins so close in age and a mat leave buddy 😊

SarahB88 · 18/04/2024 17:20

@Sa11yCinnamon aw how exciting more babies due close together! I have a brother so I’m enjoying having 3 sisters through my partner 😂

Clarkey34 · 19/04/2024 09:47

@junebuglb sorry to hear your in hospital, but exciting that you get to meet your little girl early. Hope everything goes ok.

Clarkey34 · 19/04/2024 09:54

We've had a little bit of a whirlwind 48 hours! Went to what I thought was a routine appointment on Wednesday, to be told by the consultant he wants me inducing at 37 weeks after all (a complete 360 to what we got told the week before) so I finished for maternity leave yesterday, luckily work have been ok with this & now just having a day pottering & getting composed.

I'm 37 weeks today, so we get to meet our little lady very soon. Just waiting for the hospital to contact me.

I'm excited, nervous & worried!

April baby here after all🩷

Sa11yCinnamon · 19/04/2024 10:28

@Clarkey34 oh wow, that is exciting! When were you supposed to finish work?

26th April. It is only a week early, but only with 24 hours notice for them.
Luckily I'd started winding down being involved in day to day tasks, so wasn't such a huge rush.

Sa11yCinnamon · 19/04/2024 14:04

Ah that's not too bad, glad it went smoothly! Take it easy as much as you can til you hear more x
