What did you have?

WaitingfortheTardis · 06/01/2024 19:06

A Chinese is absolutely fine.

HippeePrincess · 06/01/2024 19:06

You’re being stupid 🤣

Feliciacat · 06/01/2024 19:07

What’s so bad about Chinese takeaway? Is it the MSG? I think you will be fine. Try to avoid having it regularly but once is ok.

BarbaraVineFan · 06/01/2024 19:07

What do you think will happen OP?!

What do you think all the millions of pregnant Chinese women eat?

Hellocatshome · 06/01/2024 19:07

What did you have? Even if you ate something you are 'not supposed to' you will more than likely be completely fine.

Prawncow · 06/01/2024 19:07

One takeaway isn’t going to do you or your baby any harm.

swimminginthepool · 06/01/2024 19:07

My kids are living proof that a Chinese in pregnancy can be fine. What are you actually concerned about?

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 06/01/2024 19:07

You will be completely fine.

what is it you’re worried about?

QuestionableMouse · 06/01/2024 19:08

MSG occurs naturally in food like tomatoes and no one tells pregnant women not to eat them!

HippeePrincess · 06/01/2024 19:08

Denimdenimdenim · 06/01/2024 19:06

What did you have?

Don’t think this matters, there’s nothing from the Chinese you can’t have.

neleh87 · 06/01/2024 19:08

I had at least 2 Chinese take aways in pregnancy. Obviously you've got to try your best to have a balanced diet but one takeaway won't do any harm.
Hope you enjoyed it! Now I want Singapore rice.

lauren8910 · 06/01/2024 19:09

I wasn't even aware you couldn't eat Chinese when pregnant????

IzzyMas · 06/01/2024 19:09

Is this a thing? because if it is my baby is in trouble.

Denimdenimdenim · 06/01/2024 19:09

I was anticipating a nice list of food I could be jealous over 😂

Prawncow · 06/01/2024 19:10

I’m craving Chinese food now!

That makes more sense, let’s have a list please op.

SunnySide19922 · 06/01/2024 19:11

I'm vegetarian so only had egg fried rice, plain chow mien, sweet n sour veg and sprung rolls!

Thanks everyone I think it's the msg I worried about and then I read something about beansprouts 🙈

You are being stupid.

Lesson one of food and pregnancy. There are so many different 'rules' about what you 'should' and 'shouldn't' eat which are purely culturally based and not really solidly based on very much evidence at all.

As long as you don't overdo anything, you can eat most things - don't worry too much.

The two real exceptions I found looking at cultural differences on this are - liver (Inc pates) and alcohol.

Everything else is don't panic, be sensible and if youd eat it normally don't worry too much - just being conscious of reheating and hygiene as you should be generally anyway.

But tbh in the UK our base standards on this are so high it's not that much of a big deal.

Delicious. I'm regretting being good this month.

Absolutely nothing to worry about. If anything it sounds like you need a nice dessert to finish the meal. Enjoy!

neleh87 · 06/01/2024 19:14

I just googled 'beansprouts pregnancy nhs' (NHS being key) and was linked to a bbc page saying beansprouts should be cooked til hot. Which they would be in a deep fat fryer. 😁

Prawncow · 06/01/2024 19:15

I think raw bean sprouts can be a risk because they might carry bacteria but cooked ones are fine.

You’re fine. You missed out on Salt and Pepper tofu though.

RedToothBrush · 06/01/2024 19:16

You sound more like you have issues with food generally and it's nowt to do with pregnancy. Do you have anxiety issues more generally? If you do, that's what you need to think about more than food.

Btw what you eat during pregnancy apparently affects your baby's tastes.

I ate loads of spicy food and east Asian food whilst pregnant. DS is a fan to put it mildly.

Unicorns41 · 06/01/2024 19:18

Ate several Chinese’s whilst pregnant (I had the meat as well). Currently got my healthy 5 month old on me! Nothing to worry about, hope it was very tasty!!

dementedpixie · 06/01/2024 19:22

The beansprouts have been cooked and are fine to eat. Most things warned against in pregnancy can be made safe by cooking e.g. soft cheeses, cured meats, etc.

You are being silly and your Chinese food was perfectly safe to eat
