You're being utterly ridiculous, grow up, stop being pathetic and remember youre about to be a mother.

Is this a thing? because if it is my baby is in trouble.

Same 😳😂 if it's a thing it'll be a medical miracle if my baby is born without issues..

Whattodo112222 · 06/01/2024 20:33

Oh calm down will you. You'll get nowhere in life as a parent if this is how quickly you can jump to conclusions.

If you're scared of beansprouts at least Google it and it will tell you they are fine if cooked

TravelInHope · 06/01/2024 20:43

Bean sprouts! OMG!!!

mrsfarnworth · 06/01/2024 20:46

I have 2 healthy children that prove Chinese in pregnancy is fine 😂

Good grief.
Another reason why I feel justified in saying women should have to do a mandatory "common sense" test before being allowed to get pregnant

It's completely normal to feel anxious about things while your pregnant, especially food

No need to be rude

Originalusername89 · 06/01/2024 21:04

I had a huge Chinese the night I was in labour with DD2, her birth was fuelled by prawn toast and pork balls!

Anyway agree with PP, don't Google things just stick with NHS guidelines. Pregnancy isn't an illness, there really is very little that's advised against doing or eating.

I wasn't even aware you couldn't eat Chinese when pregnant????

That’s because you can. There’s nothing dangerous about Chinese food.

menopausalmare · 06/01/2024 21:11

Don't be daft. Unless you also drank a bottle of wine, had a pint of unpasteurized milk and finished it off with some rind cheese and cigars, you'll be fine.

ru53 · 06/01/2024 21:22

OP I accidentally ate raw chicken when pregnant and it was all fine I didn’t even get sick. I also had a load of cured meats near the end of pregnancy in a moment of total mind blank and baby is perfectly healthy. But I understand the fear! I’ve never heard that you shouldn’t eat Chinese food when pregnant though? Bean sprouts is just because they can give you food poisoning if not stored or cooked correctly but very very unlikely. Also I think MSG has been unfairly demonised it’s essentially a salt. We have it in the kitchen at home for stir fries etc.

You are being stupid.

Lesson one of food and pregnancy. There are so many different 'rules' about what you 'should' and 'shouldn't' eat which are purely culturally based and not really solidly based on very much evidence at all.

As long as you don't overdo anything, you can eat most things - don't worry too much.

The two real exceptions I found looking at cultural differences on this are - liver (Inc pates) and alcohol.

Everything else is don't panic, be sensible and if youd eat it normally don't worry too much - just being conscious of reheating and hygiene as you should be generally anyway.

But tbh in the UK our base standards on this are so high it's not that much of a big deal.

Agree, isn’t it something like not a single pregnant woman/foetus has died from eating soft/unpasteurised cheese in Europe? And the few listeriosis outbreaks that there were came from salad.

Surely you’re more likely to die just by driving a car…

Oh actually in writing this, I found there was ONE person who died in 2023 from listeriosis from POTENTIALLY soft cheese (don’t know if they were pregnant or not): https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/mar/24/dies-uk-eating-cheese-contaminated-listeria-baronet

I’ve always thought the guidance and the evidence base, when I’ve looked at it, was not far from complete nonsense.

therealcookiemonster · 06/01/2024 21:50

yep... over a billion Chinese women worldwide must not eat anything for nine months lol

dw you will be fine

dr Google is far more dangerous than a one off takeaway

Balloonhearts · 06/01/2024 21:51

The booming population of China suggests you will be fine.

ilovebreadsauce · 06/01/2024 21:52

Chinese babies?

Thankyouthankyoujellybean · 06/01/2024 22:16

If it had been Vietnamese the beansprouts would probably have been raw, and therefore there would have been a teeeny weeeny chance of getting ill. Good shout choosing Chinese.

Now I want both Chinese and Vietnamese food immediately.
