How and when did your waters break?

As I’m nearing the end of the third trimester with my second I’m wondering if/when my waters might go. So just for fun when did yours go? And was it a big flood or just a bit?

With my first I went to the toilet in the night (38 weeks) and felt a little pop and when I wiped realised a small trickle wasn’t stopping so it must be my waters! It stayed a small trickle continuously until the baby came.

In primark lol. Thankfully was wearing a pad as I was in my last week.
Other time I had to be popped

DS1 - 4 weeks 1 day before due date, in bed in the early morning. I turned over and there was a sudden pop and a gush. @Workawayxx my DH said exactly the same as yours! Didn't have any contractions and in the end had to be induced after 24 hours - DS was born 5 hours later.

DS2 - 10 days early, went into labour in the middle of the night, went to hospital at about 6.30am, waters broke in hospital car park and he was born 45 mins later.

I was asleep in bed, actually thought I was peeing the bed until I realised I had no control over it!
It was a lot to begin with then trickled for most of that day. DS didn't come for another 72hrs by emergency section.

Snap! But with DD

Mine didn't 😅 my baby came out in them.

DS1 only at the very end, fully dilated and pushing.

DS2 woke up to sudden warm flooding of the bed. Pop and lots of fluid. Took me by surprise after DS1! Had to apologise profusely to the person whose bed I was staying in.

My first pregnancy, they went at 31+6 exactly like in the movies, all over the floor of a restaurant, filling my wellies to the top at the same time.

My second was just a weird popping sensation and then trickles for ages. They eventually popped them during labour.

Third time they didn’t go at all and had to be popped as baby came out.

Walking around tesco for hospital bag snacks at 37+5

Unfortunately you don't get free shopping!

They started to go about 6 days before my due date...baby was born about 3 days later (planned home birth with IM - absolutely brilliant ❤️)

Mine literally went as I was climbing into bed whilst reading this thread! 😳

spiderlight · 25/01/2025 00:32

Several hours into labour, while the midwife was examining me. I didn't really feel them go but she certainly did! 😳

Woke up just before 0400am for a wee. Did my business, then it just kept on going & going & going & going. Realised my waters had broke.....lucky I was sitting on the loo because it was a huge gush...

GrimDamnFanjo · 25/01/2025 11:42

Rolled over in bed with my second at 38 weeks.
Thought - feck that's my waters, but I'm too tired to do anything.
Eventually couldn't ignore it but the baby acts a bit like a cork when you stand up so the leakage was manageable.

BiddyPop · 25/01/2025 11:44

I was in the shower on pre-natal ward already labouring a few hours. Plug went, and no idea was it a gush or not as there was already a lot of water and I was practising my yoga breathing so not focussed on that - just DH asked what had happened. He was sitting quietly in the corner as I wasn't allowed shower alone.

jjeoreo · 25/01/2025 11:49

I had them broken for me as part of induction for 1 and 3, but with the 2nd they went during labour..that's pretty common I'd say. They often go just before delivery with no. 2 (like waters then ooh the head's coming)

Mrsmch123 · 25/01/2025 12:42

I had had a bath as I was bored and husband was at work. Got out fresh pjs and decided to jump back in to bed. Went for a nap then got up for a pee. As I stood up I felt water trickling down my leg. Waddled to the toilet and was like did I pee myself or was it my waters. Anyway stood up from the toilet and there was defo more fluid flowing. Called husband and off to hospital who confirmed it was my waters. Sent me home to wait for contractions. Nothing happened until 20 hours when my contractions started.

MaltipooMama · 25/01/2025 12:53

Oh god I remember this moment so clearly, I'd had 2/3 instances in the lead up that made me think my waters had broken, just little trickles though which I realised weren't the real thing and I was stressing that I wouldn't be able to tell when they actually did break! But one Friday night when I was 40+4 we'd gone to sleep around 11pm and I woke up a couple of hours later to absolutely GUSHING! I felt like I was flooding the bed 😂 just continuous, non-stop gushing like a bloody waterfall! It was the weirdest sensation ever but at least it left me in no doubt that it was actually happening!

I was 36 weeks with twins. Mine went in bed at 3am. I was sort of half asleep and very uncomfortable when suddenly there was a pop and water all over the bed, and it just kept coming. I legged it over to the toilet in the ensuite. Contractions then started almost immediately and with every contraction there was this gush of water.

We called the hospital and they said to go straight in (because I was having twins, I think) and so I had to get up and get dressed, still gushing with every contraction. Sat on a pile of towels in the car. Waddled into the hospital in soaking leggings and a towel round me, still gushing. The midwife on the desk took one look at me and was like 'so, your waters have definitely gone' (I guess some people aren't sure?). The gushing seemed to go on for hours although I'm sure it can't have been!

And then, once I'd pushed out twin 1 they said, 'so we need to break twins 2's waters' and I said 'you mean that was only one of them???' Pretty sure that all came in one go.

I remember being shown this largeish jug of water at my antenatal class to show how much water was 'average' and I swear I must have had at least 4 times that amount.
