How and when did your waters break?

As I’m nearing the end of the third trimester with my second I’m wondering if/when my waters might go. So just for fun when did yours go? And was it a big flood or just a bit?

With my first I went to the toilet in the night (38 weeks) and felt a little pop and when I wiped realised a small trickle wasn’t stopping so it must be my waters! It stayed a small trickle continuously until the baby came.

First DC, waters went at 39+6, felt like I was going to shit myself in Tesco (turns out I feel contractions down the back) fled home and it was like whoaw, major flood, all gone. Didn’t go with DC2 til they broke them for me.

DramaAlpaca · 03/01/2024 00:09

All three times the waters went as I was pushing the baby out.

Not until I was pushing my babies out both times

Same

shivawn · 03/01/2024 00:16

In hospital after induction both times. First time they went themselves, second time my midwife had to break them manually for me. I had meconium in the waters the second time which was pretty gross, brown slimey stuff that just kept coming for hours.

3 babies all born in waters very rare apparently!

justanothermanicmonday1 · 03/01/2024 00:23

With my first, in the hospital whilst I was getting an induction. I think I had 2 of the pesseries at this point and a sweep. Was standing at 8pm at night on the phone and felt a warm tiny gush. This went on for 24 hours and then, finally was like a scene from a movie 🤣

Second time I had them broken during an induction. Didn't feel a thing thanks to an epidural.

amispeakingintongues · 03/01/2024 00:24

1st baby - without warning on a high street 😂 had to change my knickers in the M&S opposite. Baby born 24hrs later

2nd baby - in established labour, in the birthing pool just moments before baby was born.

I expected my waters to go first but the second labour was so different in every way to my first!

Wow all three!

SusanKennedyshouldLTB · 03/01/2024 00:28

During labour with both, so i didn't notice.

Mine went at about 9pm on the Thursday night as I walked up the stairs. I felt a little pop and then my pad (I was overdue and expecting something to happen) soak up the water. I didn't know for certain so hospital said to go in to check and confirmed it. Contractions started about 11pm. Midwife then popped the hind waters about 4am on the Saturday to help my labour progress. I can't remember much about this as I was delirious from lack of sleep. DC was born at 5.15am on the Saturday.

weegiemum · 03/01/2024 00:37

Dd1 - waters broken for me when I had failure to progress and was on a drip.

Ds - popped in bed just before contractions started. He was born 10 hours later.

Dd2 - went on second last contraction. Right on the face of the junior doc hoping to catch the delivery (she was soaking and had to go and change!).

BoredGeordie · 03/01/2024 00:37

I'm not actually sure! I woke up having contractions and got in the bath for about an hour not long after. The midwife who checked me when I got to the hospital said they had gone but I certainly didn't feel them. I can only assume they went when I was in the bath and I just didn't notice?

missally · 03/01/2024 00:39

I was on a fetal heart monitor with the straps on my belly as baby was tiny and had to be constantly monitored. Was lying on my side in the dark and heard this noise like a ping pong ball being smacked in a school hall, enhanced by the machine 😅 and then a LOT of fluid, couldn't believe how much. Then just a trickle ongoing for the rest of it. I was so grateful as I was induced, but really wanted my waters going to be something I did 'myself' (as opposed to having the membranes artificially broken).

TinselTittz · 03/01/2024 01:35

@amispeakingintongues yes! Crazy! One born a day before their due date, and the other 2 smack on

Maybe my body just likes it that way 🤣

SzeliSecond · 03/01/2024 02:28

Went to bed grumpy as he was wriggling so much I couldn't do anything at 41wks

Felt something 'pop' jumped out of bed and had the movie style 'gush' all over the bedroom floor.

Shouted exH who ran in, promptly slipped on them and went skidding into the wall 😂

Baby came 47hrs later by C-section in the end

Amazing, my first was a due date baby and my second born a day after due date. But en caul and on due date must be so rare 😃

Disturbia81 · 03/01/2024 09:39

All 3 times it was the same! Got to 39/40 weeks, without even a flutter, and then leaned over in bed for something and my waters broke, massive floods, leaving gooey liquid all round the house and in the hospital!

All 3 times I'd be losing this water over a day and nothing happening, no cramps etc
Had sections all 3 times which were planned anyway (fear of birth)
So I never got to experience contractions which is a miracle!

MegaMeg2710 · 03/01/2024 09:44

First baby they didn’t go until broken by my midwife, I was deep into labour at 41+6 so didn’t really have awareness of it. Second baby they trickled out when I was cooking my first a fried egg, I assumed it was wee (not that my bladder was weak or that had happened during pregnancy but I was just like…oh ok I’ll go to the loo when this egg is done) and went to the toilet, instantly knew it wasn’t urine as it was a bit grungy green, popped a pad in to catch it to see properly, and it started to come a lot quicker with gushes every so often, went to see my midwife (I actually had an appointment anyway!) and got sent to triage immediately! I was 41+3, baby was absolutely fine just kind of mature and ready to come out.

Silverbirchtwo · 03/01/2024 09:45

39 weeks, I was cleaning my teeth at 7:00 am getting ready to go into work (an emergency apparently, no idea what it was now), quite a flood. Never did get to work that day or for quite a few weeks!

TheChosenTwo · 03/01/2024 09:46

They were burst by midwives when I was in hospital all 3 times.

TheFormidableMrsC · 03/01/2024 10:21

My first baby, there was a big gush and it went everywhere. Second baby I woke up feeling wet but had no contractions so put a pad on and went back to sleep. Second gush a few hours later had meconium so I had to go to hospital despite still not having contractions.

Bells3032 · 03/01/2024 10:26

at 33+6. woke up at 7am sunday morning and was soaking wet. i did briefly wake up earlier and felt a bit damp but unsure what time that was. No contractions. rushed to hospital and then just sat there for about 44 hours. my contractions started at 3am Tuesday and LO was here by 7am

fr4zzledmum · 03/01/2024 13:32

Mine went in the midwife's face whilst I was pushing Grin

dressedforcomfort · 03/01/2024 13:53

Lying in bed, felt a pop and then realised I was soaked. Contractions started within 15 mins.

IncompleteSenten · 03/01/2024 13:57

1st time - Broken by the doctor with a hook.

I was off my tits on gas and air and I called him Little Bo Peep, asked him where his sheep were then giggled to myself for several minutes.

Doc and my husband agreed the g&a was working a treat.

2nd time also induction so I assume the same but I can't remember.
