Hey all!!

Im 39 + 4 tomorrow and eagerly anticipating the arrival of my first DC.

Super excited and beginning to feel slightly worn out now as pregnancy insomnia has kicked in.

So far I’ve had inconsistent contractions, loose bowels, cramping in pelvic area.. but no mucus plug or bloody show :(

I was sure that baby would have arrived by now, but looks like it’s way too comfortable!

How is your final week(s) going?!

@log51 I can relate! I know everyone is exciting and means well but the constant messages are exhausting.

I've had a VERY chilled day today - finding my energy levels are super low at the moment!

colourPink · 03/10/2023 21:18

So I possibly have an induction tomorrow (or within 48 hours after that) and I've found myself feeling very anxious tonight over it all.

It's the uncertainty! And knowing i could feel this way again tomorrow night AND the next night yet. I would much prefer a certain day!

Of course I know the ward can't predict how busy they'll be (hence the 48 hour window) but I am a big planner so the "go with the flow" approach isn't really for me.

Just ranting/ getting it off my chest. I really hope I phone in the morning and they can tell me to come in or at least give me a time 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Pinklilly · 03/10/2023 22:40

@colourPink i can totally relate to that. It was the same for me in terms of sweeps you just had to call and hope and I hated the uncertainty.
however I think the advantage is you only go in when they can actually see you instead of waiting around.
hopefully tomorrow you get some clarity! It’s exciting that you will meet your little one soon.
I know inductions are scary and I don’t know how your trust works but for my first daughter I had a Propess pessary and sent home to give it 24 hours for it to work. It worked and I had my daughter the following day with gas and air and a water birth. It was truly beautiful birth and not the horrors you hear about induction. I appreciate it was a milder induction in that it was outpatient and I went home but it’s still a form of intervention. I hope that gives you some encouragement that they aren’t all horrible. I wish you the best of luck with the process

colourPink · 03/10/2023 22:52

@Pinklilly thanks so much for sharing! All I've heard is horror stories with inductions so it's nice to hear a positive one.

I really hope he comes soon 🤞🏼

colourPink · 04/10/2023 15:38

So they had availability today. Currently in the Labour ward (they don't send you home in my trust). Managed to avoid the rod things that open your cervix (which is great as they take 12-15hours).

Had some of the gel inserted and they're hoping they'll be able to pop my waters this evening. Really hope we have a baby soon!

Pinklilly · 04/10/2023 18:10

@colourPink good luck I hope everything goes well and little man is with you shortly.

log51 · 04/10/2023 18:16

Good luck @colourPink !!

I am having an outpatient induction tomorrow morning at 9am so have the pessary inserted then go home for 24 hours and hopefully that sets things off (if it doesn’t then go into labour ward on Friday and go on the drip)

i’m having a boy too!

Cakeorchocolate · 04/10/2023 21:48

Ooh good luck @colourPink . Hopefully you have your own positive induction story soon.

And you too @log51 .

Sweep yesterday went OK. 2cm dilated at that point.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Had contractions from 16:30 though not regular.
Had more sporadic ones earlier in the day but didn't realise until they started coming close together. They seem to have slowed now though. Fingers crossed for a half decent sleep and pick up again tomorrow 😅.

apples24 · 05/10/2023 09:42

Good luck ladies, you're all getting close to having your babies now.

Pinklilly · 05/10/2023 10:43

hope you’re doing well @colourPink and good luck @log51
@Cakeorchocolate this all sounds really promising hopefully things will ramp up!

Cakeorchocolate · 06/10/2023 10:28

One baby boy delivered. At 42 weeks.

Had a sweep at 41+5 and another the next day when I went into the hospital to be monitored after some blood loss, all was fine and got to go home again. Contractions were strong overnight then eased through the day. So thought everything was slowing down until they went crazy at 8:30 last night, waters went half an hour later and then all went mega strong and pretty quick. Baby born less than 3 hours after the contractions started properly.

How are you both doing @colourPink and @log51 ?
Hope things are going well.

colourPink · 06/10/2023 14:49

@Cakeorchocolate amazing! So happy it all happened naturally! What a quick birth in the end.

I also had baby boy yesterday evening at 7:28pm born via c-section. Essentially I was labouring with intense contractions for about 16 hours but couldn't get past 6cm dilated. There were concerns about how low his head was and he was stuck in my cervix. Turns out they were right as during the C-section they struggled to get him out as his head was stuck.

Anyway, we are both healthy and have just got home.

Can't believe they are all coming!

Keep us updated @log51 when you can 😊

Cakeorchocolate · 06/10/2023 15:08

Aw congratulations @colourPink I almost ended up with a CS too. They / we managed to get him out with a ventouse though but I'd have happily taken the CS even as an emergency.

We're still in hospital waiting for some blood results before we can be discharged.

Glad to hear you're home and recovering though. Intense contractions for 16 hours must have been awful. Mine were bad enough and it was start to finish in less than 3 hours for the most part. I was hyperstimulated again though, labour hormones do not agree with me.

Good luck with your recovery!

Pinklilly · 06/10/2023 19:02

Congratulations @Cakeorchocolate and @colourPink .
im glad both babies were delivered safely and wish you both the best recovery.

log51 · 07/10/2023 10:55

Hello all! Baby George Milo was born 6 October at 1.30am at a whopping 10 lb 1 oz after pretty intense induction process (as I was 41+5)! Pessary went in at 10am, was cramping by about 1 then contractions started at 5.30pm only 3 mins apart!

Got to hospital and was 3cm dilated and about 90 mins later I was 9! So wasn’t really time for any pain relief and just managed on gas and air, with tens machine and a couple of codeine. Pushed for over 2 hours and he was a little bit stuck (mentioned episiotomy and going to labour ward at some point) but second midwife came in and put me on the birthing stool and he came out with one push - it was the biggest relief ever! Had a second degree tear but think that’s quite lucky given his huge size!! Feeling all ok now.

Wishing everyone luck for these precious first few days!

Pinklilly · 07/10/2023 11:02

Wow @log51 thats a big baby! Congratulations and well done on getting through it all. It must feel like such a relief to be done and snuggling with little one.
take it easy next few days and wish you a speedy recovery

apples24 · 07/10/2023 11:33

Congratulations @Cakeorchocolate , @log51 and @colourPink - amazing to hear that everyone now has their babies safely on their arms.

colourPink · 07/10/2023 13:01

@log51 amazing news! So happy it went so well for you! Congratulations.

Now we can all enjoy our newborn bubbles. I'm resting up as feeling very sore after CS but I love him so much I almost don't mind 🥰

Cakeorchocolate · 07/10/2023 19:27

Yowzer @log51 , well done. Everyone keeps telling me how big my 8lb 12oz baby is. He got stuck too and I needed an episiotomy for ventouse and still tore in 2 places too. So glad your little one arrived safely.

Thank you @apples24 .

Glad we all are lucky enough to make it home with our little ones safely, albeit in various states of physical well-being, as we know not everyone is as lucky.

Hope everyone is enjoying all the newborn snuggles and all recovering well and all the babies are feeding and growing well. Take care everyone on the thread!!

colourPink · 18/10/2023 20:24

How is everyone doing?

I can't believe baby Elijah is 2 weeks old tomorrow!

Sending lots of love and hope everyone is settling into motherhood/bonding with their new bubbas 🩵

Pinklilly · 19/10/2023 15:42

@colourPink elijah is such a lovely name. How are you getting on?

im really enjoying it and I think that might be because we think this is our last baby! So although it’s crazy having a toddler and a newborn it’s so enjoyable watching them bond. I’m soaking up all the cuddles. Bedtime is challenging as both girls are sleeping at 8pm and that means both seem to need me simultaneously!

breastfeeding has been nicer this time around as it’s felt less alien! So in a nutshell I’m loving this bubble but that could also be because my husband is on paternity leave. Next week might be chaos.

colourPink · 25/10/2023 10:53

@Pinklilly I'm a first time mum so it's been such an experience but I'm loving it. He's quite a chilled baby.
DH went back to work Monday so I've found this week much harder as I've been solo parenting but we're getting through.

Glad to hear BF is going well for you. I'm bottle feeding and been quite happy with that choice given that I had a CS and I'm still recovering - it's allowed people to help me out a bit more.

Hope everyone else is still good. I've felt really good up until this week - I think DH going back to work has made me emotional! But I'm hanging on in there.

Cakeorchocolate · 28/10/2023 19:35

Doing OK here. Crazy that he's 3 weeks old already.

Loving all of the baby snuggles. Currently under a sleeping baby now 🥰. Not loving the screaming evenings. It's only a matter of time before that portion of the day. (He's not left to cry etc. We try everything to comfort and calm him but nothing works except while he's feeding and then he's usually sick.)

Just starting on an elimination diet for me to see if he has cmpa. So if it works hopefully the screaming discomfort will be over soon.

DH went back to work for 2 days last week but then off again this and next week for helping for half term. Didn't want our oldest to be stuck with me struggling to get us all out of the house for 2 weeks. I'm already wishing he didn't have to go back though. So much easier with 2 of us.
