Hey all!!

Im 39 + 4 tomorrow and eagerly anticipating the arrival of my first DC.

Super excited and beginning to feel slightly worn out now as pregnancy insomnia has kicked in.

So far I’ve had inconsistent contractions, loose bowels, cramping in pelvic area.. but no mucus plug or bloody show :(

I was sure that baby would have arrived by now, but looks like it’s way too comfortable!

How is your final week(s) going?!

Aww super excited for you! Not long at all.. I feel like the days are beginning to drag now, but perhaps because I’ve just started maternity leave and I’m twiddling my thumbs at what to do with myself!

Out of interest are you doing anything to induce labour naturally like birthing ball, raspberry leaf tea?

PickledScrump · 12/09/2023 23:19

I’m only 34 weeks with my third. But those inconsistent contractions are getting baby into the perfect position and your cervix starting to thin before dilating, your body is working hard even if it doesn’t feel like it., so don’t be discouraged.

Also raspberry leaf tea and bouncing on the ball won’t induce labour. Raspberry leaf tea should be started from 32 weeks and gradually built up to 4 cups a day, it tones your uterus to make contractions stronger so the second stage of labour is shorter. Bouncing on the ball gets baby into the pelvis and into a good position.

To help get labour moving you need oxytocin which is a happy/love hormone. So massage, comedies, baths. Whatever makes you relaxed and happy and avoid stress.

Not long to go now, good luck.

I am 38+4 and eagerly awaiting arrival of baby, this is my second and I was overdue with my first so I don’t really think this one will come any earlier. I have had no signs but wish I did! I haven’t enjoyed pregnancy (hyperemesis) and with a toddler it’s been a mission. Fingers crossed we all get through this soon.

BellaPixi · 13/09/2023 09:50

I’m 39 weeks today with my first! My bump still seems really high but I’ve got a midwife app at lunchtime so will see what she says. I have had no real signs either so think mine is comfy too!

I am drinking raspberry leaf tea, bouncing on my ball and eating dates 🤢 not sure what they are supposed to do but the midwife advised it. Glad it’s cooled down now, last week was a struggle! Especially at night

Congratulations!! Not long to go at all!!
Yes that totally makes sense. I’m just doing what I can and hopefully during labour it will benefit me somehow.. if not I do actually feel like I’ve enjoyed the raspberry leaf tea and wouldn’t mind continuing to drink it!

Today I’m feeling severe lower back pain, especially when I sit on the birthing ball for longer than 10 minutes so I’ve taken a “chilled day” but let’s see what the morning brings!

Good luck too, so happy for you :)

Super excited for you!! Literally at the finish line now!

I feel you on the eagerly awaiting. I started Mat leave this week and so many of my colleagues were like enjoy the downtime before baby comes but I have no idea with what to do with myself. I’m just tossing and turning and thinking about baby alllll the time.

Sorry to hear about the hyperemesis, I hope the symptoms alleviate soon!!

good luck!

Hey! Congratulations! How was your app with the midwife?

My bump deceives me, each morning I wake up it’s super high, and then slowly throughout the day it feels like it’s middle-ish! lol!

I feel you- I’ve been doing the same, and time will tell if it works but either way it’s nice to have a routine or something. Makes me feel like I’m doing some proactive for labour.

We shall what the morning brings but every day is like being on-call for a night shift waiting for that moment to be called in 🤣

Hi @NewMamaToBee how are you getting on?
Due date for me today and absolutely no sign at all of baby coming! I’m booked in for a sweep tomorrow to see if that will get things going 🤞🏼

Hey- same old! Due date was Saturday just gone and nothing. Had a sweep yesterday, brought on some period cramps and I’ve woke up this morning and they’re also gone. Slightly gutted but I am booked in for an induction this Sunday if baby doesn’t make an appearance itself.

Sweep went really well though! I was 2cm dilated and she managed to stretch me to 3cm so I lost the remaining bit of my mucus plug. Definitely think it helped get things moving again, DC just doesn’t wanna play ball haha!

I'm 39 weeks today and nothing! Been drinking raspberry leaf tea since 32 weeks, ball bouncing and pretty much everything else! Feels like this baby will never come.

I have a sweep booked in for this afternoon so I hope that gets things moving 🤞🏼

Good luck mama! I feel you, I’ve been super up to regime with a routine dates, tea, pineapple, long walks even DTD with DH- however don’t be disheartened! My CM was super shocked at how “stretchy” and dilated I was for a FTM. She said mostly when she does a sweep for FTMs they’re not dilated enough to actually do it so she said it was a favourable cervix and I put that down to all the prepping!

Every little thing you’ve been doing will have been a help. I would say just before you leave for your app- do some birthing ball stretches for half hour- really helped me relax my muscles. Especially the figure 8 on the ball!

@NewMamaToBee thanks for the advice! I'll make sure I spend some time on the ball.

I've been SO uncomfortable the last few days. Not feeling great in general, serious back ache and the pressure below has been insane. I woke up today and BAM it's all gone.

As glad as I am to have a reprieve from the discomfort I was hoping it would lead to something 🙊

Pinklilly · 20/09/2023 10:26

It’s nice to see some others going over their due date or close to. I’m 39+4 and have not felt a single twinge so I’m quite sure I’m going to go over my due date too. I’m thinking of having a sweep next week although in my last pregnancy the sweeps didn’t do anything! Good luck everyone and do update if the little one arrives.

BritishDesiGirl · 20/09/2023 10:44

Baby arrived yesterday in record time from contractions to birth 3.5hrs.

I know that feeling!! It’s weird we need the discomfort but at same time it’s not nice. I get slightly excited that something is happening and then BAM gone. I’ve stopped telling the other half as I feel like he gets his hopes up too 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hope the sweep goes well!

I agree- there is a sense of comfort in knowing you’re not the only one!

Even when I do get twinges I’m like nah- that’s too faint to be a contraction, as in my head they’re going to be wildly painful. But then they stop anyways and I just don’t know what to think anymore?- was it all in my head 🤣

Hopefully you won’t be waiting too long! Looking forward to hearing some good news!

Praying for all of you that you meet your babies soon.

Nattalot · 20/09/2023 14:05

I'm 38+2, had a growth scan on Monday and suddenly told they want to induce on Friday due to slowing growth! Lots of bouncing on my ball to help with positioning just doing anything that might prep / speed up the process, had some twinges and lower back pain so hoping I'm close anyway...

Bit nervous about induction, heard that it takes a long time and is more painful. Orginally wanted a water birth 😞

Hey lovely!
I totally feel the nervous part. I’ve also been booked for an induction this Sunday but please do not worry.

Id spend some time watching positive induction Vlogs on YouTube- and there are loads! I also wanted a water birth but more than that I just want baby in my arms now. You never know when they go to check your cervix you may not even need the pessary or hormone drip and they could break your waters if you’re dilated enough.

There is always hope but you’re doing the best you can to encourage baby so that’s all that matters. I watched Elle Swift induction vlogs on YouTube and honestly both times she was induced it just seemed like a calm experience. The more relaxed you are the more your body will cooperate!

Good luck and keep me posted!

@Nattalot @NewMamaToBee exciting news about the inductions! I know you might feel nervous but at least you know that, by this time next week, you'll be at home with YOUR BABY! Sending all the positive vibes.

My sweep was unsuccessful yesterday. I'm not even a cm dilated so she couldn't perform it. This just meant it was super uncomfy and not nice! I'm trying not to feel frustrated/disappointed from it but I do.

I think this baby will never come 😂

Pinklilly · 21/09/2023 13:08

@colourPink oh I’m sorry to hear the sweep was unsuccessful! What’s the plan now? Do you have another booked or induction?
I have induction booked for next Saturday at 41 weeks exact! So on the 30/9. I’m still hopeful baby may come themselves before then but I feel better that there is a plan.

colourPink · 21/09/2023 13:26

@Pinklilly I'm only 39+1 so no talks on induction yet. I have another sweep booked in for Sunday (which I am not looking forward to!) so hopefully that gets things going!

colourPink · 21/09/2023 13:27

@Pinklilly good luck! It must be nice having a date to go by and knowing you'll meet your baby so soon!
