Hi, I'm 42 just found out Im pregnant, 8 days before my period is due. I've become addicted to testing, more then 3 times a day as I'm still in disbelief. I have had 5 previous pregnancy which I believe to be chemical as they all ended at the 5 week mark, all starting off with faded positive hpt lines.

This time I've been testing every day as I'm hoping my hcg will rise so I can feel abit of hope. Right now I'm 3 days away from my period and I'm still getting positive tests, so I'm holding onto abit of hope. I was wondering if there's any success stories that can be shared so I have even more hope. TIA.
I've added some of the test I've been doing to this thread.

Hi Stacy!
I hope you are well. I just saw your post. I’m 42 also and 4.5 weeks pregnant. I’ve had 4 failed pregnancies. Ectopic, MMC, chemical x2 and worried as now pregnant and hoping it won’t fail. How are you getting on? Being a bit *older I can’t find many recent posts/people to connect with! X

MabelMaybe · 11/09/2023 09:25

There are a surprising number of older mums with "ooh, so it wasn't perimenopause!" pregnancies. I hope that this one works for you. Fingers crossed.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 11/09/2023 10:07

Me! As in my mum was 44 when I was born.

My sister is 16 years older than me.

Jomummy1013 · 11/09/2023 14:20

I'm 42 this month and 21 weeks pregnant. Having a baby girl 👶 she is my fourth baby, I've already got two daughters and one son.
I had to have a CVS because the father of the baby has a genetic condition which has a 50 percent chance of passing on, but I've had it confirmed that she does not have it and nor does she have Downs, Edwards or Pataus.
Congratulations to all the pregnant ladies on this thread! X

Hi,@Stokey33 just seen your message. Sounds like u have had a rough time aswell. I'm doing OK, still pregnant 5 weeks and 1 day, so still pretty early. I see each day that goes by as a blessing, knowing I'm still pregnant. Like yourself I've been through a few losses, and it's not easy. At the moment I'm scared that if I get to the scan stage, there's gana be nothing there, I'm actually petrified I've read so many stories. I think every cramp pain is gana be the Start of another miscarriage, I don't want to relax and feel to happy as I'm still very early. How are you feeling?

Thank you, same to you to ☺️ @Jomummy1013 how did you find the first few weeks, and your scans ect?

Yes it’s horrendous. Each day feels like a year. I have an 11 year old boy from a previous relationship. With my now husband it’s been 3 years of trying and each time failing miserably. As I had an ectopic last year I had my HCG levels checked and then checked again 48 hours later to make sure they were doubling which they did. Although this is great news HCG can act very normal even though something is wrong. So I have an early scan tomorrow at 4 weeks 5 days as they should be able to see the sac and rule out ectopic. Literally praying everything will be in the right place however I have also a blanket of caution that covers any joy at the moment. Anyway let’s see. I’ve also read every story I can find. Symptom checking to make sure I still have them! Ugh mental chaos! @Jomummy1013 congrats! So nice to read positive outcomes for girls in the 40s!

Hey @Stacycu , congrats 💙💖 have you been to the Early Pregnancy Unit at the hospital yet? You can refer yourself via NHS website because of your history. Just a suggestion, ask the midwife for blood test to check your HCG, progesterone levels and if you need prescription for progesterone and also baby aspirin daily x

Hi OP, I’m 42 and have just had my second baby after a miscarriage at 8 weeks and lots of waiting. He’s perfectly healthy. Wishing you all the best.

k9nedrame · 11/09/2023 16:31

Congratulations OP! I had my 3rd baby last year aged 42. I'd had a TFMR the previous year, but no miscarriages. Baby is 16 months now and is perfectly healthy and happy!

justme2022 · 11/09/2023 16:35

I fell pregnant just after my 42nd birthday. Currently in a stand-off with product of said pregnancy who is determined to jump off of the tv cabinet at every opportunity.

Stacycu · 11/09/2023 17:18

@Stokey33 good luck for tomorrow, please let me no how you get on. It's so good to hear that your getting some support from the professionals. I got fob of by my doctor. I think that's because each time I miscarried I never went to the doctors, and assumed it was just my age, so it went unnoticed, but she did say that because it happened more then 3 times she can refer me to a specialist, if this one fails. She then gave me the midwifes number and said contact her, which I did today. I did ask about the EPAC and they said they would call me back, and I've still not heard a thing.

I had my second child at 40 and a third at 42.

Stacycu · 11/09/2023 17:23

Hi @mummylove24 thanks for all that information, I'll enquire about all of the above, when i next talk to a professional. I've not been referred anywhere. Should of heard something back today but not had a call yet. How do I self refer on the NHS app?

Stacycu · 11/09/2023 14:26

Thank you, same to you to ☺️ @Jomummy1013 how did you find the first few weeks, and your scans ect?

I had to have a scan at around 5 weeks ish because of bleeding and they found I had a perisac bleed? At that point they could only see the sac and no fetal pole or yolk but they confirmed all in the right place. I went back a week later and had a fetal pole the size of a grain of rice with a 'cardiac flicker' which was reassuring.
I've suffered awful sickness and lost a stone in weight and not gained any weight yet despite being 21 weeks.
I had my nuchal scan at 13.2 where I saw the fetus and all seemed well. I had a cvs at the same rime as the father has a genetic condition and i wanted to know if baby had it. The results came back no downs, Edwards or pataus but the sample was not good enough to check for the dad condition so I had a second CVS at 14.2 and another scan. This CVS was OK this time and negative for dad condition. I had my anomaly scan at 19.1 and baby all looks well. And found out she is a girl which was a shock as convinced it would be a boy! Sickness is tailing off now but I've still gained no weight. Xx

Jomummy1013 · 12/09/2023 12:34

@Stokey33 thank you and good luck with your scan xx

ronswansonstache · 12/09/2023 12:39

Congratulations OP. I hope everything goes well for you. I got pregnant aged 40 after four years unsuccessful TTC. I was worried about the impact of my age when I first found out, but DD is 3 now xx

Stokey33 · 12/09/2023 14:24

Hi guys

Just an update. Had the scan and they *think they have saw the sac but want to double confirm on Thursday. 98% sure but with my history they have to be 100% certain. Had bloods retaken and my HCG is only doubling every 66 hours. It’s risen by the 66% needed, but just. Feel a little stressed and my boobs don’t hurt as much at all today. Praying it’s not bad news. Fingers crossed. And toes.

Jomummy1013 · 12/09/2023 17:02

@Stokey33 that's good they think they saw a sac. At my first scan (around 5 weeks) all they saw was a sac. Good news the HCG is increasing. What was your HCG do you know? Let us know how Thursday goes xx

Moni81 · 12/09/2023 17:07

Hi, I just had baby 2 weeks ago and I am 42. Your tests look very promising, fingers crossed this one will stick around. I was not preventing or actively trying for baby but I'm sure there were quite few chemical pregnancies along the way. In our age unfortunately it takes time to catch that good egg to be viable for conception, just need to be patient. It took me by surprise around Christmas time last year, sometimes it's good to stay away from testing for while and clear up mind.

Stokey33 · 12/09/2023 17:30

HCG was 149 on Wednesday at 3 weeks 5 days and then 400 48 hours later on Friday. Then from Friday to Tuesday ( today ) it went to 1176. So it’s doubled every 60 hours from Friday and the threshold is every 48-72 hours. Still within the frame but just not sure. They said they are 99% certain it was a sac but also when I saw the HCG was normal but not exactly optimal I feel a little deflated, also with age and history I’m not sure. I do hope however but I’m very cautious and don’t want to hurt my heart too much by getting excited! Anyway sending lots of love to everyone. It’s really a wild ride!

Stacycu · 12/09/2023 19:58

Bless you@Stokey33 , the hcg is going in the right direction. I pray everything goes well for you. Your not wrong with this being a wild bumpy ride. It really isn't good feeling so much worry and anxiety. I hope on Thursday your blessed with a sight of a little fetal pole on Thursday 🙏 keep us posted 🙏
