Hi, I'm 42 just found out Im pregnant, 8 days before my period is due. I've become addicted to testing, more then 3 times a day as I'm still in disbelief. I have had 5 previous pregnancy which I believe to be chemical as they all ended at the 5 week mark, all starting off with faded positive hpt lines.

This time I've been testing every day as I'm hoping my hcg will rise so I can feel abit of hope. Right now I'm 3 days away from my period and I'm still getting positive tests, so I'm holding onto abit of hope. I was wondering if there's any success stories that can be shared so I have even more hope. TIA.
I've added some of the test I've been doing to this thread.

I'm 42 and a half and am pregnant but sadly it's not viable - HCG is 577 then 720 so increase not like it should be. I have 2DS and I've had 4 miscarriages before (3 in between my DSs and 1 after DS2) and now this. It wasn't planned particularly. My husband and I wanted 3 ideally but after MC4 said let's not do all this again as too painful and we have an amazing family but I'm so sad losing this one, I'm thinking I'd like us to try for a bit longer - am I being silly. I was told I have a "hospitable womb" so MCs likely but successful pregnancy also possible - just whether we are strong enough to cope with it. Any ideas to improve chances of good eggs at this age other than folic acid and vitamins, I'd be interested to know.

Stacycu · 13/09/2023 06:13

@Giacamo3 im sorry to hear your news...I think at our age its the luck of the draw with our eggs, I no how you feel with having had miscarriages, I had 5 myself, each time It was upsetting, but at the same time it wasn't ment to be, I put it down to the egg health and my body's way of saying its not a healthy egg. I do believe that there is a high possibility of having a full term pregnancy. we just have to have faith. I was advised by my gp that after 3 MC you can be referred to a specialist, so that may be worth looking into, to help you on your journey.

Only thing I can think, that I did differently this time is eat healthy and was more active.
And prayed alot, for this baby to stick.
I am 5weeks and 3days now, and I feel fine, normally by now I have had a early miscarriage and a burning feeling in my uterus. But I've had none of that just evening cramps, and very very hot boobs, and alot of leg pains. Its not easier to sit back and relax, as I no that we always think the worst of this type of situation, but just learn to take each day as it comes, don't give up. If it's ment to be it will be.
Everything I have prayed for has happened,so far. I am very thankful 🙏

@Stacycu I think you are right. Hubby and I will need to have a think about what we want to do. We've had the checks - nothing wrong. I fall pregnant very easily which I guess is very lucky but my body isn't discerning and latches on to everything! I worry that this increases my chances of having a baby with severe defects especially now I'm the age I am. I might have a chat with my gynecologist- he was fantastic when we were trying for DC2.

Stacycu · 14/09/2023 07:16

@Stokey33 thinking of you today🙏 hope everything turns out well... Good luck 😊

Hi all

Just thought I’d update. Had the second scan today. Junior doctor scanned my first and said it looked better she thought but was roughly the same size as 2 days ago and then got the consultant who also scanned me a few days ago. She said from the images she saw it definitely looked better but that she would also scan. She said again she is 99% and is *cautiously optimistic. I have to go back in Tuesday for a final update. Slightly concerned as my boobs have stopped hurting and she said symptoms can come and go. Asked her about my progesterone as it dropped from 90 to 63 but she told me this is normal! So no idea if everything is ok but hoping!

Stacycu · 14/09/2023 16:33

@Stokey33 thanks for the update, so ur still stuck in limbo with the rest of us, how far along are you atm?
I wouldn't worry to much about symptoms they can come and go. Aslong as ur not bleeding & cramping there's still alot of hope. Hold in there 🙏

I’m exactly 5 weeks today! No cramping etc. feel relatively normal apart from some food aversions. Just trying to stay busy! Will you have an early check up or just wait for the 12 weeks? X

Stacycu · 14/09/2023 16:37

I'm currently sitting in the EPAC until, came in with pain on the left side. There trying everything not to give me a scan. Even tried suggesting It might be shingles, but I'm not ill or have a rash, there looking at every possibility. They ask me what I think it could be, I said possibly a ectopic. Then she went off to ask a senior what to do next, so I'm sat her waiting.

How can they not want to scan you, uurgh NHS can be frustrating!!!, given your medical history as well, they have to rule out a ectopic pregnancy, I hope you get scanned x

Stacycu · 14/09/2023 16:46

Well they came back in, said there not that concerned as I'm not screaming in pain, there gana do some bloods and bring me back Saturday for a scan and retake the bloods again.

Stokey33 · 14/09/2023 16:57

Are you in London? If so I’d go to UCL. With my ectopic I had very very little pain and my HCG as 30,000. I wasn’t screaming but it would have exploded at any moment. If you are not happy head to UCL. It’s such a terrible time early pregnancy. I hope you will be ok. Keep us updated x

Stacycu · 14/09/2023 17:26

I'm in Nottingham, hopefully I'll be OK untill Saturday. I hope I'm just having annoying pregnancy pains.

*update, rang the epac to find out my hcg level, and it's well over 5000 which is good, so I'm now hoping that saturdays scan shows a bean. And not a blighted ovum and my levels are doubling nicely. 🙏🙏🙏 praying for my little 🌈 👶

Stokey33 · 15/09/2023 17:13

This is amazing news! Fingers crossed! Congrats!

Stokey33 · 15/09/2023 18:01

Went back for another scan as had some pain in my left side. Found out my womb tilts to the left. Today they saw the sac and yolk sac! We’ve decided to leave it for over 2 weeks before scanning again as I’m away next week for a holiday! Here’s hoping all our beams keep growing!

sleepismyhobby · 15/09/2023 18:04

Stacycu · 15/09/2023 21:05

@Stokey33 that must be a good sign if there's a yolk & sac, babies probably just to small at the moment. How are your bloods looking?
Make sure you get plenty of rest on your holiday and try not worry 😊 I no its easier said then done, but stay positive and be safe. ☺️

Update, had my scan today. Wasn't great. Seen a sac which was measuring 4-5 weeks with nothing visible inside. Bloods not rising as they should. 1st bloods was 5225, 48 hours later is was 5400 and something, so not a great rise. So I Don't think this is gana be my 🌈👶

Stokey33 · 17/09/2023 08:03

Hi Stacey
Are you totally sure on your dates? My HCG rose by 48 hours on the first retake of bloods and then rose 70% in 48 hours. Sometime HCG can do weird things. How many weeks are you? Did they see a gestational sac at all? They didn’t see mine to 4 weeks 5 days. Could it be your dates are earlier? Thinking of you. It just consumes your mind all day long. What is the next step? X

Jomummy1013 · 17/09/2023 09:05

Keep us posted @Stokey33 and have a nice holiday x

Jomummy1013 · 17/09/2023 09:07

@Stacycu I'm sorry you're going through this 😟. Are you sure on your dates? At my first scan they just saw a sac. Are you having another scan? X

Stacycu · 17/09/2023 11:40

Hi, my dates are going by my LMP, ovulation could always be wrong I guess, but its the hcg, only go up by 200 in 48 hours that makes me doubt everything. They want to do another blood test on Monday and then decide from there when to scan me again. But to be honest I would rather not know, and wait untill my body realises its a failed pregnancy, so I can miscarry naturally. Right now I feel fine, if anything i feel better, the burning has completely gone out my uterus, it's like it's settled down. I think I would need a miracle right now for things to turn out ok. (@Stokey33 They did see a sac, but there was nothing visible)

OP posts:
Stokey33 · 17/09/2023 12:13

Praying for you. Normally at 5 weeks they only see the sac. A baby is not visable to 6 weeks plus. Was there a yolk sac or just the gestational sac? I only had the gestational sac at 5 weeks and then 5 weeks 1 day we saw the yolk sac. So much can change. How many weeks/days are you. Crossing everything for you. HCG can be funny and not do what it’s meant to and still be ok. Keep us updated x
