Induction to Baby, how long did it take you?

Hi all. I am being induced tomorrow morning due to being a week late. This is my first baby.

I was just curious, to all the Mums out there who have been induced, how long did it take you from being induced to delivering?

OP posts:

7 1/2 hours start to finish. However I didn't have any pessaries or anything like that, was seen by the obs consultant and she broke my waters there and then and the drip was set up maybe 10 minutes later once she prescribed everything. Definitely isn't a typical induction experience from what I've heard from others.

neleh87 · 27/08/2023 16:43

3 and a half days but I was induced at 37 weeks.

Good luck! Take your own pillow, ear plugs and snacks!

RandomMess · 27/08/2023 16:47

4 inductions at different stages of due date/overdue.

2 most overdue were less than 12 hours from 1st pessary.

Other 2 were more like 40 hours and had to have ARM

Once in established labour they were quickly.

Sadly I was in pain for quite a while before "established labour".

Even when I had an epidural (3) I didn't need an assisted delivery, no stitches etc.

19 hours. I was absolutely MILES away from giving birth, they couldn't even do a proper sweep.

First pessary in at 10pm on Friday, examined at 3am and still couldn't do a sweep, told me to expect baby on Sunday at the earliest. Waters went naturally at 7am which I was happy about as it at least started the clock ticking!

Drip went in at 11am, I'd asked for an epidural that they wanted me to wait for as it "slows things down" 🙄 but I said no and had the epidural just after the drip. Was told to settle in for a long wait - midwife came running in at 3pm having watched the monitor and checked me and I was ready to go, wasn't even supposed to be examined again for another 3 hours!

I'd not bat an eyelid again about being induced if I could have an epidural lined up. Good luck!

First baby. Induction began at 8am. Baby born at just after midnight..forceps delivery. 9lbs! Second baby: induction started at 8am baby born normally at 4pm. Third baby: went into labour myself at 10am. Baby born quite easily around 3pm.
All the best. I had an epidural each time.

SarahLHs · 27/08/2023 16:54

2 hours for me, but I was already 3cms dilated so they just broke my waters and she popped out very quickly 😂

justme2022 · 27/08/2023 16:54

First was11 hours. Second just under 8 hours. Both straightforward, no extra interventions.

Arthurbear1234 · 27/08/2023 16:55

i had a pessary inserted at midday, my son was born 6 hours later! Needed forceps in the end as he was a bit stuck, but otherwise was really straight forward & quicker than expected!

MinnieMountain · 27/08/2023 16:56

35 hours. Pessary was inserted at 4pm. No intervention but I wasn’t allowed to move around as his heartbeat was variable (he had a knot in his cord l).
He was 14 days overdue when he was born.

WhiteCatmas · 27/08/2023 16:57

First baby, 3 days. I was overdue.
Second baby, 2 days, I was overdue.

They are still late to everything.

elm26 · 27/08/2023 16:57

5 days of different induction methods, it can be a long process so make sure you take some home comforts in case!

I took my own pillow, ear plugs, blanket etc.

Good luck OP! Xx

WeWereInParis · 27/08/2023 16:57

11 hours, just had the gel. I was 37 weeks but she was my second, and my waters had broken at 34 weeks.

OttilieKnackered · 27/08/2023 16:57

28 hours. Couldn’t get past 4/5cm and baby’s heart rate kept dropping so ended in emergency c-section. Wish I’d waited a bit longer (he was a week late too!) but like a PP I had had NO signs of labour. Couldn’t do a sweep, ARM and still no decent progress. Was contracting almost as soon as the balloon went in. ECS was the nicest part!

WombatBombat · 27/08/2023 16:57

Went in the Sunday, born on the Tuesday.

The first 24 hours were totally boring, nothing happened, so from waters breaking to birth was about 11 hours.

OctoblocksAssemble · 27/08/2023 16:58

24 hours, at 39 weeks

AG96 · 27/08/2023 16:58

Went in on a Monday and had the pessary at 3pm. Dilated enough to have my waters broke at 10am Tuesday and started the drip. Emergency csection Tuesday 8:40pm. My babies heart rate dropped. No one's sure why but he's 8.5 months now and absolutely fine 😊 Csection nowhere near as bad as I expected either

cryinglaughing · 27/08/2023 17:00

1st baby - pessary 6pm Wednesday, baby born 10:30am on Saturday.

2nd baby - pessary Thursday 4pm, baby born 5:20am Sunday morning.

1st baby 10 days over, 2nd baby 14 days over at start of induction.

faban · 27/08/2023 17:00

My induction wasn't progressing and they couldn't get the ballon in so I could either have another pessary or have a c section. Induced Wednesday, section on Friday x

WhootDaFook · 27/08/2023 17:03

I was 41+5. Pessary in at 1pm ish. Nothing happened for ages, no contractions at all, then My waters popped by themselves at 9pm. Contractions started about 11pm and I had my 9lber at 4am.

he was my 3rd of 4 babies, only induction, and was my favourite birth.

good luck 🤞🏽

happydayseh · 27/08/2023 17:03

First, pessary went in at 5pm on Sunday evening, removed 24hrs later, waters broke by MW at 8.40pm (Monday) and baby arrived at 00:43hrs.

Second, pessary went in at 1pm removed as I was 5cm at 9.3pm baby born at 11.15pm

Both inductions were at 39+5. Both went smooth for me no drip or any other intervention, no comparison re pain but I managed with gas and air for both. Good luck. X

HarridanHarvestingHeldaBeans · 27/08/2023 17:05

I had 3 inductions. The first was 10 hours from start to finish. The second was 6 hours and the third was just under 2 hours.

buzzlightyearsgloves · 27/08/2023 17:06

Went in on Friday and had the first pessary, was born on the Wednesday.

starlightmagic · 27/08/2023 17:07

10 hours from drip to baby, at 36 weeks but she wasn’t hanging around!

TwoBlueFish · 27/08/2023 17:08

Around 12 hours start to finish for both of mine.

DS1 35 weeks after I sprang a leak with no contractions.
DS2 38 weeks planned induction due to large size.

delilabell · 27/08/2023 17:15

I had first pessary on the Friday. 2 on the Saturday (one fell out when I was having a poo) had my waters broke Sunday lunchtime. The drip Sunday afternoon and she arrived early Monday morning. I think she'd still be there now given the choice!
