Paying for scan photos

So from the 1st sept our trust will be making you pay for scan photos even for the 12 week and 20 week scans.

I'm shocked by this as with my first baby two years ago it was never a thing

Do all of the trusts charge??

Mine did

MamaBear1022 · 04/08/2022 17:36

Ours had always charged.

Ontomatopea · 04/08/2022 17:36

We got one for the medical notes which have to be handed in. Any extra copies are paid for

Mamadothehump · 04/08/2022 17:36

I was charged £2 a picture 16 years ago!!!

satelliteheart · 04/08/2022 17:37

Mine ask for a donation, think it's quite common. Photos aren't a medical necessity so many trusts don't want to foot the bill

hugoagogo · 04/08/2022 17:37

I think I remember paying for mine 20 years ago. Seemed fair enough to me, how much are they charging?

LT2 · 04/08/2022 17:37

At mine they always had posters up saying about paying for scan photographs but they never asked for payment

blebbleb · 04/08/2022 17:37

Yes mine charged. It's normal. Only a few quid. Considering everything else is free I don't mind

Pinkflipflop85 · 04/08/2022 17:38

Ours have charged for years. I paid £5 per photo in 2014

SleepingStandingUp · 04/08/2022 17:38

We paid for our singleton but not our twins

Bananas52 · 04/08/2022 17:38

During covid a lot of hospitals waived the fee (I think because you were only allowed in alone), ours is now back to £5.

Mine did and that was 20+ years ago. Wasn't much though.

mizzo · 04/08/2022 17:39

Ours used to charge £5 for scan pictures and £50 to find out the sex.
They stopped charging at some point between DC2 and DC3. I think they should bring it back tbh.

seething1234 · 04/08/2022 17:40

I'm not in the UK (in Ireland) but to get a 20 week scan we had no option to go private at a cost of over €250. Only a 12 week scan was part of our free care. How much are you being charged?

Lockdownmummy · 04/08/2022 17:40

You were supposed to at ours... there was a machine in the waiting room to pay and then give the receipt to get them.

No one ever asked for it so clearly the staff weren't on board with the charging and we never paid for either baby 🤷🏻‍♀️

2020firsttimemum · 04/08/2022 17:43

I'm so amazed by this! I honestly had no idea that they generally charged! 😂

£5 for one £7 for 2 and £10 for 3 (3 is the max they will give you)

I mean maybe it's not unreasonable, and I didn't think anything of it but now I feel shocked that I have to pay for them when I didn't before!

Of course I will, but I'm amazed 😂

Ontomatopea · 04/08/2022 17:44

It's not unreasonable as it's not an essential part of the care to give you a copy

Ontomatopea · 04/08/2022 17:45

Is a bit harsh on those without much money though

Amipreg1 · 04/08/2022 17:47

That has been the norm here for many years.
When I had my 1st 7 years ago it was £6, now I'm expecting my second and it's £10!

Plumtreebob · 04/08/2022 17:47

Mine did but the payment machine was broken Emmy whole pregnancy so they gave them for free and I needed extra scans so I have about 10 photos! Normally £5 a photo.

Hugasauras · 04/08/2022 17:47

Ours asks for donations and judging by the state of the box, has done so for many years!

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 04/08/2022 17:47

Ours charge but we didn’t have any cash on us for the first one so they gave us them for free.
I don’t remember paying for the second one but we probably did

Lunde · 04/08/2022 17:48

I had to pay for scan pictures in 1995

Schooldil3ma · 04/08/2022 17:48

Our local one charges about £3, have done for at least 8 years. I really don't mind paying it.

Algbu6 · 04/08/2022 17:49

I was charged in 2015. It wasn't much though or maybe the first only was free then if you want more copies you pay.
