Getting induced tomorrow

timewilltel · 01/03/2022 09:50

So I'm booked in to get induced tomorrow (2nd March) I'll be 40 weeks exactly, that's if baby doesn't come today which I'm hoping for. I just spoke to my midwife and she explained what will happen when I get to the hospital. She said there's different procedures they will try all depending on how my cervix is after they check it, one includes rods being put into my vagina?? Has anyone had this done it sounds so painful? Another is breaking my waters and another is putting a tablet inside me. I then asked if it's certain that baby would be here by tomorrow which she did say it could be but also for some women it could actually take days! What?! I'm not prepared to stay in the hospital for so long! Has anyone here been induced and how long did it take and how long were you in hospital for??

Just a point though, an epi can also slow things down. The gas and air did work well for me but just make sure you keep a seal around the mouth piece for breathing in and out for it to work.

Raindancer411 · 03/03/2022 04:38

@timewilltel Hope you managing to get some sleep!

timewilltel · 03/03/2022 05:15

@Raindancer411 you have given me such useful info thank you so much I really do appreciate it! You're also so thoughtful to message me and check in at this time even tho I know you said you'll be up for feeds 🙂And yes I did surprisingly manage to get some sleep, not sure how as this bed isn't the most comfortable but I did lol but yeah I just woke up to go for a wee and when I wiped (tmi) it was all slippery on the tissue and I just see this browny bloody snotty gunge which I'm assuming is my mucus plug?? I didn't have this with my son so I'm a little surprised tbh, do I need to let them know this? Does this mean labour is near?! It's a good thing right? Oh gosh I can hear the lady next door getting a sweep done which doesn't sound pleasant at all I'm hearing her say she's nearly 42 weeks and she's apparently been in for days now poor thing.

Good luck! Flowers

Raindancer411 · 03/03/2022 06:58

Good luck!!!

Raindancer411 · 03/03/2022 07:00

Oh yes that sounds like all good signs!! I will check back later... Exciting :)

CornishGem1975 · 03/03/2022 08:40

Sounds like things are moving in the right direction - the mucus is a good sign! Keep positive - all inductions are different, some people never need the drip if their contractions are strong enough but don't be afraid to ask for pain relief at any point - including an internal exam or sweep (which yep, can be very unpleasant) When I was being induced and kept having to have pessaries and cervix checked they offered me gas and air. Take what you need!

mumofbun · 03/03/2022 09:09

Oh good luck today!! I don't know if you'll already have had it done but tbh i found the breaking of the waters one of the worst bits - i didn't realise but you can ask for gas and air for it

Hopefully you're already on your way though x

Update: supposed to get my waters broken this morning at 7am and I actually slept until 8am only got up because the lady came in to ask what I wanted for breakfast I was like isn't someone supposed to come and get me at 7 she said she'll go and find out and came back and told me that the person who was supposed to break my waters may not come in at all today because she's really busy somewhere else so I might need to wait for someone else to come do it but that's not even 100% and may not be today so I don't know what's happening right now which is really frustrating! Arghh I just want to get this over and done with!

CornishGem1975 · 03/03/2022 10:08

Ugh I feel your pain, it's so frustrating. As you're not in 'proper labour' I honestly don't feel that you get the same level of care and interaction, when it should in fact be the opposite. It's a lot of waiting around. Any bloody midwife can break the waters!

Raindancer411 · 03/03/2022 10:23

@timewilltel Yes it is a bit of a waiting game. I went in the Sunday morning but wasn't taken around until Monday at 2pm! Fingers crossed the signs you had means you may still go naturally before. Keep trying to bounce on the ball :)

mumofbun · 03/03/2022 11:36

Oh that's so frustrating but exactly what my experience was like!! A lot of waiting. Most of the Monday i was in i was just waiting to get a bed in the consultant wing to get my waters broken and then the drip started. Get bouncing it might help :)

babyboybluewithnumbertwox · 03/03/2022 18:15

How are you doing @timewilltel? 🥰

dreamygirl25 · 03/03/2022 19:17

I've been lurking here! How is it going? Good luck!!

Raindancer411 · 03/03/2022 20:33

Am hoping as she hasn't been back yet, it's a good sign she has been called :)

wishing3 · 03/03/2022 20:43

Good luck!

timewilltel · 04/03/2022 00:21

Update: it's so overwhelming seeing all these lovely supportive caring messages from people I don't even know, I mean you'd expect these kind of messages from your close family and friends but from people you don't know is just so heartwarming! Thank you guys so much for checking in. So the midwife who was supposed to be breaking my waters called me this afternoon to tell me the reason why she couldn't come in today was coz she had loads of emergencies to attend in another hospital and all the other midwives are really busy today too as they're short staffed which I swear nearly made me cry so I said when will this happen then can you just give me an estimate which she said she will try her very best to get someone to do it tomorrow but it's not 100% she doesn't want to get my hopes up and tell me it's certain because anything could happen. Basically I'm not classed as an "emergency" so if there are emergencies they will come before me which I get but at the end of the day I am pregnant too and extremely uncomfortable 😭 so after she told me this I said you know what I'll just go home and have a shower then and come back later this evening, I'm a little OCD and the showers here don't look very appealing tbh. Plus I was dying to see my 3 year old boy coz I haven't been away from him for this long since he was born so really missed him and every time I spoke with him on FaceTime I just wanted to cry 😢 basically the hospital doesn't allow kids here. Anyway it's just gone midnight now and oh yeah the girl next door to me apparently went into labour coz when I came back she was gone and her side of the room is all empty and clean so yeah I'm here all by myself gonna try get some sleep and hoping and praying that it's my turn tomorrow 🤞🏽🤞🏽

@timewilltel Sending you big hugs as I know what you mean. It was the longest I had been away from my eldest when I went in to have my second. I also agree that the showers don't look that inviting. It's a shame they didn't let you go home for the night to come back tomorrow. I shall keep everything crossed for you it is tomorrow as the wait isn't fun.

Also forgot to say that when they deliver the babies head, ask if they can use warm wet towel against you delicate area to help reduce the chance of a tear. I think it was called STOMP(!) Worked for me...

dreamygirl25 · 04/03/2022 04:25

Poor you, so disappointing all this waiting around. Fingers crossed for tomorrow now. Hope you get some sleep

timewilltel · 04/03/2022 06:20

@Raindancer411 I defo will ask about the warm towel because I'm not looking to tear again as I did with my first and was in surgery for hours having it stitched up! Yeah they actually did say that I could go home but the reason why they wanted me back in the evening was coz they wanted to use that machine to monitor baby's heart rate. They're doing it every morning and every evening apparently. Plus if there was an available midwife which was unlikely BUT if there happened to be one available then at least I would be there ready!

Thank you! Just woke up to go wee and now I can't get back to sleep just lying here praying that it's my day today but I won't get my hopes up like I did yesterday coz obviously things can change so fingers crossed anyway 🤞🏽🤞🏽

Daisy4569 · 04/03/2022 06:30

Fingers crossed today is the day! The wait is the worst. You will be so relieved when things get going!

timewilltel · 04/03/2022 06:36

Update: just woke up to go wee and since yesterday when I'm wiping I'm still getting this (tmi) gungy gooey pinky brown like stuff which I'm assuming is the mucus plug then it made me realise that I'm here in hospital waiting for a midwife to break my waters but wait, I'm now officially over my due date.. why are my waters not breaking on their own?? I've been so desperate for a midwife that I've completely forgotten that my waters CAN still break on it's own! With my first it happened a day before I was due and with him I was expecting to be late! But now I'm just like come on girl it's time to get out please! Break already! 😫

If it's not today I will literally cry! When I was speaking to the midwife yesterday and she told me it won't happen coz they're so busy my heart literally sank I remember just standing in the corridor with tears in my eyes like whyyyyy??? Whennnnn then please do your best I just want this over with!!! 😫😫
