Getting induced tomorrow

So I'm booked in to get induced tomorrow (2nd March) I'll be 40 weeks exactly, that's if baby doesn't come today which I'm hoping for. I just spoke to my midwife and she explained what will happen when I get to the hospital. She said there's different procedures they will try all depending on how my cervix is after they check it, one includes rods being put into my vagina?? Has anyone had this done it sounds so painful? Another is breaking my waters and another is putting a tablet inside me. I then asked if it's certain that baby would be here by tomorrow which she did say it could be but also for some women it could actually take days! What?! I'm not prepared to stay in the hospital for so long! Has anyone here been induced and how long did it take and how long were you in hospital for??

Update: And just like that I have a beautiful healthy baby girl! First of I'd like to start by saying that this community has been nothing but supportive and so so helpful to me since I made my first post. It literally is so overwhelming reading all these wonderful messages of help, support, encouragement and basically just kindness.
So, I guess you’re all wanting to know what happened….
So Friday 4th March at around 1pm the receptionist came into my room with a big smile on her face and said “a midwife is on her way to get you” I thought I was hallucinating. Wait, what? Are you sure? Yep, it’s not the one you’re supposed to be seeing but it’s another one who’s available now. “Fine with me”!! So around 2pm the midwife came into my room and introduced herself and then asked if it was ok to have a student with her and that it was completely ok to say no. I just told her you can have whoever you want, Boris Johnson and his wife, I couldn’t give a hoot as long as it gets done! Brilliant let’s get started. So they took me down to the labour ward and it was lovely, a massive room which had little tea light candles all over, it just felt calming and soothing. So then they ran through everything with me. Once my waters are broken I can walk around and within about 3-4 hours I should start feeling contractions. If not they’ll start me on the drip which would guarantee to get them going but obviously we’ll cross that bridge if we get to it.
So let me just breeze through this.
They checked my cervix and done a quick sweep (I was 2.5cm dilated) and then she proceeded and inserted a plastic stick and after a few attempts it eventually got done. I felt leaking and then that was it. She said go walk around the ward and maybe up and down the stairs. So it was about 5 minutes into my walk when I got stopped in my tracks from this dull achy like pain in my lower pelvic area which literally came from nowhere. Surely this isn’t a contraction already? A few minutes later it came back again. Lo and behold, IT WAS a contraction. I came back to the room and lets just say it kicked off from there. I asked for the epidural and just my luck they were in with someone else so I had to wait! So as I’m waiting the contractions were literally coming on fast and getting more and more painful! They put me on the gas and air which did sort of help I think as it just made me feel like I was in another dimension or something. Finally about half an hour later the epidural lady arrived! The first thing she did was go through all the procedures, I was just like yeah yeah it’s fine just do it please! So anyway to sum it all up coz I can see this dragging on for another 6 pages lol
My waters got broken at around 3:30pm and I delivered her at 7:30pm! Apparently that’s the quickest they’d seen! Everyone was shocked! All I remember was feeling the need to push and the pressure was just sooo intense I really couldn’t handle it all I kept thinking was why isn’t the epidural kicking in!
Ok so what I wasn’t told was the epidural doesn’t take away ALL the pain! You could literally still feel the pressure and that pressure is torture! Especially when the head was coming out I could feel it was like I had an apple stuck in my vaj which I was trying to push out and the only way to push it out was push as if you were having a big poo! Which by the way I know I did poo because I felt her wiping me sorry tmi but this is labour for you lol so let’s just say, in one word, how would I describe the whole experience? “Traumatising” yes, the epidural helped with the contraction pain but I thought you weren’t supposed to feel any pain whatsoever? I was wrong. Oh got a second degree tear which needed stitches and also a catheter but that’s what happened with my first baby too. I did actually ask for a warm towel to be placed which was advice from one of yous which she said she was going to do anyway so maybe that may have helped me not tear further. So yeah, I’m not gonna say it was easy, far from it but you know what, it was absolutely worth it. Got discharged the next day on Saturday afternoon. Now just enjoying being a mum of 2 and being a family of 4 ☺️

Lol exactly! Maybe that's the reason I really had to wait! They actually did keep apologising for making me wait so long but tbf a lot of you on here have waited much longer so I can't really complain too much lol

It can take a while. I had a friend start the induction process but there was no room
On the labour ward so she got sent home to wait for a bed…..for over a week. In contrast I was induced with my most recent DC and we were in and out within 18h with the baby.

Daisy4569 · 06/03/2022 09:18

Huge congratulations! Enjoy all of the cuddles x

Raindancer411 · 06/03/2022 09:31

@timewilltel Congratulations!!! You can now enjoy your little bundle and time with your little boy too...

I am surprise to say that you still felt pressure after the epidural as i honest did feel nothing when I had mine with the first. Glad it was fast for you, mine was too, and the midwifes kept saying wow that was fast lol It's a story I will also tell my girl as she grows up 😂 That although she was late arriving unlike her brother, she was born in a hurry...

Really pleased for you :)

SunnySideUp2020 · 06/03/2022 10:41

Congratulations!!! Your body was definitely ready to give birth.
Amazing!
Hope your recovery goes smooth and enjoy your little family of 4 😊

SunnySideUp2020 · 06/03/2022 10:43

I had on purpose a low dose epidural to feel pressure and contractions and be able to push nicely! It took most of the pain away.... but yeah when it is crowning you definitely feel it (ouch!)

Holskey · 06/03/2022 10:56

Congratulations! 🎊🥳🎉

The wait for the anaesthetist is torture! And when they get in the room all you want is for them to hurry and get it started, so it seems like they waste time faffing about 😂

Glad it all went quite quickly in the end. Enjoy your lovely new family of 4 🥰
