@ChinChilly here's hoping for a baby on the smaller side 😅 I don't think I've got much chance. Me and DH are both tall, we were both big babies and we have like kinda wide shoulders so I'm pretty sure my downstairs is gonna be destroyed by this baby 🤷🏻‍♀️

@ShellUK09 did she tell baby was in breach from just feeling your bump? When do they start moving to where they should be?! I'm sure there's plenty of time yet and the little one will shift for you soon 😊

@Mattieandmummy hahah good point! I suppose the baby will basically be a very vocal instruction manual! How much did your baby weigh when she was born if she was 98th centile? (If you don't mind me asking! I'm just curious as to what is big and what is small lol)

CaptainCarp · 27/04/2022 19:30

Hi all just caught up with the discussion!

I'm 30 weeks now so my emails from Emmas diary/bounty etc are telling me to start packing my hospital bag 😮feels way to early to think of that 😂

Anyone who is potentially going to have growth scans, just think of it as an extra chance to see baby before they are born!
I was under a consultant & extra scans because I'm fat but that was "just" 32 + 36 weeks. Now I'm under the diabetes consultant I've had an extra 1 at 27 weeks got another at 31 & will have another 3 or 4 weeks after that.

I might get a photo that actually looks like a baby at some point 😂

I forgot my notes at my last midwife appointment so not sure if that's why she didn't measure me or not.
I'm not too concerned as I had had my growth scan the week before.

@KizboBaggins yes she felt where the baby's head was and position just from feeling my bump. She just pressed down fairly hard on my bump and felt for the baby through my skin, it's a bizarre feeling and not so keen on that part of the appointment! Especially when it put more pressure on my bladder after a long wait in the waiting room for the appointment! I've no idea when they start moving positions 🤷‍♀️ but I think they can move anytime which must be why they check at every appointment.

ShellUK09 · 27/04/2022 19:37

@CaptainCarp aww wow, yeah it does feel early to pack the bag! Although saying that it's good to be prepared as well as there's no guarantees baby won't come a bit earlier... Time is flying though! I think it would reduce my stress levels slightly having a bag packed early. That's a good way of looking at the growth scans, I have missed the scans so any extra will be a bonus 🙂

JJ1992 · 27/04/2022 19:43

Yeah my growth scan was a great chance to see baby again, doing the leg measurements I was suspicious i might have seen something 😂 but the lovely scanner wasn't giving anything away. I asked 'oh whats that between its legs!?' and she ignored me and moved it away.
Could literally have been anything mind you 😂

ChinChilly · 27/04/2022 20:09

@KizboBaggins ouch 🤣🤣 i know exactly what is going to happen here.. you will end up with a petite baby and I'll get the whopper 🤣🤣

@ShellUK09 she put quite abit of pressure on my stomach aswell, good job I'd just been to the loo otherwise there would of be trouble lol. She told me that they are normally still sideways in a hammock position until about 36 weeks then they like to feel them head down.

@CaptainCarp it does feel early but I am starting to realise how much we have to still do and get and I'm starting to feel really unorganised

@JJ1992 I thought I saw something between the legs at our gender scan and OH thought the sonographer said 'he' so you can imagine both of our shock when pink shot out the end of the cannon the next day 🤣🤣 turns out what I saw was cord.

CaptainCarp · 27/04/2022 20:16

@ShellUK09 yeah I suppose baby could come 4 weeks early.. Well technically anytime now as they are viable... So doesn't actually leave a huge amount of time!
I did loads of washing so have newborn & 0-3 stuff washed ready just need to pick a selection. Then pack stuff I need. Knowing me I'll probably forgot pants 😂

@JJ1992 are you having a surprise as well? Don't think there are many of us who haven't found out.
The sonographer told me to look away before they did the legs just in case i spotted anything.

@ChinChilly

JJ1992 · 27/04/2022 21:07

@CaptainCarp yes we are waiting! Its quite fun guessing. I had strong feeling it was a girl until that moment, it just stopped me feeling tempted to buy pink 😝
Have you had anyone try to guess with rings and things? I heard this week that baking soda in the urine is a way of guessing too! Apparently if it fizzes more its more acidic and a boy! I feel like that could be affected by what you drink. Maybe some of the girls on here who know should try it 😆
@ChinChilly i think in my 20 week scan i thought i saw something then realised it was the heart 😆 so who knows! Hust shows you how easy it is to get mixed up. I like that they didnt give anything away at your scan so you could have the surprise the next day! Wouldve been hard not to say anything!

Mattieandmummy · 27/04/2022 21:13

@KizboBaggins not at all, she was 4222g which is 9.3 pounds according to Google convert. She was 53cm long and apparently the average is 51cm... 🤷

She was transverse until week 39 and it was such a relief when she turned because it had become really uncomfortable by that point.

Mattieandmummy · 27/04/2022 21:23

@KizboBaggins forgot to say, yep they are all different but you get to know them and what they like or really don't! Helpfully they have different pitches and types of cry and you do figure out what it is they are trying to tell you much faster than you might think.

Don't be surprised though if they will only sleep on you for the first weeks, it's totally normal and really common and no-one ever tells you!

NamelessBaby1 · 27/04/2022 21:45

We're also having a surprise baby, but finding choosing a boy name much easier than a girl name so now sort of hoping it's a boy just because of that, lol.

I told my midwife I thought the baby was head up at the right hand side, as all the kicks I've been feeling are at the lower left, and as she was feeling for it the baby gave her a massive kick lol.

strawberrysummer19 · 27/04/2022 21:52

Had midwife app today

Should I be concerned?

First time measuring fundal height and midwife said it came out big, when she charted it it came out 96th centile!!!

She has sent me for a diabetes blood check
No risk factors other than this measurement

It isn't for another 4wks

I already have 2 growth scans coming up so just wondered if anyone else in this position?

X

CaptainCarp · 28/04/2022 10:43

@strawberrysummer19 how many weeks are you now?
Big baby can be indication of Gestational Diabetes & its best to get tested as it can cause issues after birth such as the baby having a "Hypo" if not controlled.

I'm surprised they haven't got you in sooner if they are concerned but if you want to be careful just keep an eye on the amount of sugary treats you are having.

Is your growth scan before or after the diabetes test?

paintfairy · 28/04/2022 10:48

@SoMuch2Say just because everyone wants to put their hands in there, doesnt mean its ok. I certainly wont be allowing pelvic floor checks! I have never heard of that. And hopefully doing what they have been teaching me at antenatal/yoga classes is sufficient. I'm not sure i will be allowing 1000 examinations in labour either - now i know that actually its mostly unnecessary and certainly optional. Funny how we just accept it.
@Hope3821 does your car not have isofix? i have an 09 and that does, and my other 06 car did too? We have an 01 and i'm guessing that doesnt but i havent checked as the plan is to replace that one before a baby arrives! Only time is ticking and its still not happened. 😂
@ChinChilly no one has said i need a diabetes check either and i kind of feel like i would have liked one to rule it out!
@KizboBaggins ffs. you should swaddle, you shouldnt. Which is it?! And what are you meant to do with them at night then? I do have sleeping bags but then i have also read you should use those early either. 🙄I thought no bath was for 10 days but i told my mum this and she said what a load of rubbish, who told you that. Apparently in her day they bathed babies in the hospital for you and showed you how. Nope, not any more! Didnt know about water wipes. Again, what do you do then?@SamanthaVimes i'll look up cheeky wipes!
@CaptainCarp i am almost 28 weeks and i'm nowhere near even having the stuff for the hospital bag! Never mind packing it?! I dont even own a bag. 😂Are people taking actual bags or small suitcases?

i've got a growth scan tomorrow. They did measure my bump at my 25 week check and it seemed inline with my centile measurements but mine are all around the 25 mark and i've been lower end all the way through. I'm not sure how accurate it is though and certainly measuring bumps cant be. Some carry more fluid then others and all sorts.

strawberrysummer19 · 28/04/2022 10:49

@CaptainCarp I'm 27+2 but I haven't seen my midwife since 20 weeks weeks so no measurements are taken then ? 20 wks scan measurements on scan ok
They only do fundal measurements at this appointment

Also I had a growth scan (private) well being scan at 25 weeks and she was measuring 25+4 so sonographer said all within range so that's a good sign isn't it?

My next growth scan is a retest next week luckily as the clinic couldn't get me any clear pictures in that opinion so going back for a re test on 4th may where I'll be 28wks so I'm quite pleased about that now

Xx

NamelessBaby1 · 28/04/2022 11:17

@paintfairy I'm the same re cervix checks, in labour too - apparently being made uncomfortable can cause things to slow down and I know for a fact I'll find it very uncomfortable so I'm hoping to avoid any but the absolutely essential checks.

I'm 29 weeks tomorrow, starting to gather the things I need for hospital but likely won't actually pack for another wee while. Anyone have tips for postpartum pants etc? Have seen lots of people recommend just using tena lady pants with pads but I don't know where to start with looking at it all!

kiwi17 · 28/04/2022 14:16

@NamelessBaby1 last time I had some packs of those disposable knickers and just used those with maternity pads for the first few heavy days then went back to my normal underwear with the pads, you aren't allowed to use tampons or anything for 6 weeks I think. Since that birth I've been using reusable period pants each month and they're so much nicer than pads so I think I'm going to invest in a few pairs of heavy duty washable period pants for this time around and hopefully they'll feel nicer!

Horsesforcourses23 · 28/04/2022 14:53

Is anyone getting or having any stressy times with work now due date is getting closer? I am not due till end of July but already feeling the pressure being put on because I won't be there.

CaptainCarp · 28/04/2022 15:10

@NamelessBaby1 another surprise! We have the opposite problem. Think we've settled on a girls name but can't agree on a boys name!
DP convinced we are having a girl.

@JJ1992 not tried anything to guess. Really hoping none of the sonographers / consultants let slip with all the extra scans. I have noticed they often say he & that was pre-20 week scan so no way of knowing!

@paintfairy i was just going to take a small suitcase / "overnight" bag. I've had a bit of a think about the "coming home" outfit for baby but thats only because I washed the small stuff.
Also got nappies & cream free in my Emmas diary bags.
We are only 10mins from the hospital so was thinking I'd have a 48hr bag then another packed ready that DP could go home & get if we need to stay longer.

OP posts:
CaptainCarp · 28/04/2022 15:39

@strawberrysummer19 I have a growth scan on the 4th as well but I'll be 31+2 by then.
Sounds like baby was right on track at 25 weeks.
I would check what centile they measure baby as next week. I'm not convinced about the fundal height measurement as I know someone who was told they were having a REALLY big baby & worried then baby came out as a very average 7lb!

Also on my last growth scan at 27 weeks baby was measuring before between 10-50th centile despite having GD.

OP posts:
strawberrysummer19 · 28/04/2022 15:42

@CaptainCarp yes right on track at 25 but off the scale (for fundal height) 2 weeks later
My bumps been big in my opinion since the beginning so maybe I'm just measuring big
I'll see what they say at my growth scan next week - so glad I have a re scan now

And I have the GD test 26th may so it's better to get checked I guess xx

@NamelessBaby1 I'm the exact opposite! We cannot agree on a boys name at all. We have the girls name picked! How many names for each are people going with? Anyone doing just 1 and know they love it or are people having a list and waiting to see the baby?

JJ1992 · 28/04/2022 16:25

@paintfairy are you in Scotland as well? My midwife is going to check my glucose at 28 weeks as part of routine checks but would only do the fasting glucose test if this was abnormal. Makes sense not to have to do it unless theres clinical signs of diabetes. Might just be your glucose is normal! Seems like some other areas do the GTT as standard x
