Wow ladies, talk about hormones today!

I've shed so many tears today over stuff I'm sure I normally would be to upset about.

One of the things is moving my 25 week midwife appointment from Monday to 3rd June!

It should be my first appointment in my village but instead it's a children's centre in the town I tried to avoid visiting for any appointments . They didn't leave a voicemail, so simply put it on a text. I replied and apparently it's due to sickness and a one off, but why not explain that even in a text before I get upset at it!

The other stuff was just about me doubting myself and ability after a college assessment and it just pushed me over the edge!

Hope everyone else is staying more rational than me today 😭

On the plus side my DP has been the kindest and sweetest, which is exactly why I love him and He is even making tea tonight..... worth remembering this 😉

@cherlw I'm in the same boat. Really want to breastfeed but my mum couldn't because she was so poorly after having both my brother and me. I think I've got a few bottles with a steriliser I bought off a friend and they just need new teats and I can always send DH to the shop to get formula is my thinking if it comes to that. I spoke to my MW briefly about breastfeeding today and she says the NHS classes on that are starting back up soon so they will he useful. I'm sure xx

CherLW · 20/05/2021 16:06

@Kirky658 that’s good you’ve got some bits from your friend. I’ve got a couple of bottles which I’ve got from window to the womb for doing a survey but that’s it!

I think I’m just going to really try and breastfeed but also keep in mind that I may just have to get all the bottle feeding bits last minute.

That’s really good the nhs are starting the classes again! I’ve got my 25 week next Friday (I’ll be 26 weeks) so will check with this area too then 🤞🏼

RaeRae84 · 20/05/2021 16:31

@Bubbles1st sending you 💗
I'm ok this week but I felt like I was getting very low a few weeks ago. Definitely a rollercoaster xx

SillyBry · 20/05/2021 17:52

To be honest, I exclusively breastfed, but I still had a steriliser and a couple of bottles as once my daughter was 6 weeks, I started expressing and offer a bottle once a day, so they are certainly useful to have.
I would say, when you're in hospital, get them to check, check and check again for tongue ties and ask for as much advice and help with your latch as possible because it's scary when you get home, your milk comes in and baby fusses around the boob etc! I made lots of use of local breastfeeding clinics in the early weeks as my nipples were rather sore ... but clinics REALLY helped!

KHR1 · 20/05/2021 20:47

@bluemagicalsky I've had te weak shake thing once or twice so far this pregnancy. Both times it's lasted a few hours with dizziness too which wasn't helped with sugar or anything. Seemed to go away randomly. I don't know why it happens though. Also have the sneezing issue Blush I have hayfever so I'm forever sneezing and trying hard to squeeze shut 😂

My heartburn seems to have got miles worse in the last week or so, especially at night

Kirky658 · 20/05/2021 21:03

So newsflash from me, feeling loads of movements tonight, and DH felt baby girl kick for the first time 😍

AdventuresAwait · 20/05/2021 21:32

Oh so lovely @Kirky658! Can't wait for my husband to feel baby! So pleased for you both 😍

GWhiteley · 20/05/2021 21:43

I've done what is probably the most stupidest thing since I found out I was pregnant & carried the heavy pram box from the car to the house today. Clearly thought I was invincible now I'm 25 weeks! It wasn't far, but the area around my pubic bone is quite sore & walking hurts until I get going. No bleeding, and baby has been kicking away on & off over the course of the afternoon & evening, but still slightly worried I've caused damage somewhere so contemplating calling the midwife in the morning. What do people think?

Sceptre86 · 20/05/2021 21:45

@Kirky658 yay! Pleased for you both. it is honestly amazing with each child. x

Kirky658 · 20/05/2021 21:47

@gwhiteley oh hun, sounds like you might have strained yourself by lifting too much.. If you're worried it might be worth calling the midwife just to put your mind at rest. Xx

GWhiteley · 20/05/2021 22:07

@Kirky658 I feel like such an idiot as I've been so careful up until now! My hubby was quietly very angry with me & made me promise not to do anything like it again, which of course I won't! Will hopefully get a good night sleep & see how I feel in the morning. Guess I need to start slowing down a bit

bluemagicalsky · 20/05/2021 22:53

@Kirky658 Oh that doesn't sound nice at all. Mine is always helped by eating something and then I feel better in 20/30 minutes. Ahh I do not envy you with hayfever! I'd have to take spare underwear with me everywhere I go! 🙈😂 Will bring both up at the 25 wk appt, my list seems to be getting longer and longer!

I only get heart burn occasionally, but definitely have some acid reflux, as my throat burns at times, mainly when I'm eating all the good sugary things! I've been using Gaviscon advanced, does that help you at all?

SP2Bx · 21/05/2021 08:18

@GWhiteley I think the risks associated with heavy lifting are more to do with us straining a muscle/pulling our back etc due to relaxed ligaments etc because of hormones, than it is a risk to our baby. You've probably just overdone it a little bit, it's crazy how many core muscles are involved in lugging heavy objects about! But as I always say for your own peace of mind it might be worth putting in a call. Nice baby is giving you it's of kicks to let you know they're ok though! :)

GWhiteley · 21/05/2021 08:34

Thanks @SP2Bx & @Kirky658 feeling much better this morning but going to take it even easier than normal over the next couple of days just to be sure

I think my body was trying to take my mind off it as had awful cramp in the night 😂

Scotti84 · 21/05/2021 09:32

Re heartburn, i go to bed with a glass of milk every night, its been awful the past few weeks but lessening a bit now.

Im hoping to breastfeed but want OH to have the chance to feed too, so i bought the phillips starter pack which comes with a couple of bottles, storage pots and a manual pump. Figured i can start off there then see how it goes and buy what i need depending on the outcome.

And re mood swings, im starting to get angry quickly lately, i think its frustration as im having a lot of back and hip pain so not really sleeping, but when OH just sits on the sofa after tea and watches me load the dishwasher i could either scream or cry. And this is only at 25 weeks! I think its gonna get worse!

Noodles4Me · 21/05/2021 09:55

Oh no @Scotti84, I'd put a stop to that, tell him he has to help...coz it will get worse. I just tell my OH, you'll have to do that coz I can't bend/reach/lift

I've got hip pain now. I fractured my hip 16 years ago so it's always had niggles but seems regular now as the bump gets heavier and so hard to stretch out or massage it

Kirky658 · 21/05/2021 10:06

@scotti84 my DH is the opposite now he will hardly let me do anything which is also making me angry in my own way!!! I just can't cope with not being the normal me. Like you @gwhiteley I want to lift things like a heavy load of washing for example then get frustrated because it hurts my back. Don't like feeling like I can't do thinks, just because I'm pregnant!

This morning before work I walked 3.8 miles with the dog before the rain came then came back and did a mini workout. Did leg raises, clamshells, Squats, Weighted arm raises, rows and some dumbbell curls. Felt great!

Scotti84 · 21/05/2021 10:29

He's not as bad as that sounds, he works a manual job so hes knackered when he comes home and as im still at home (until next week), i feel bad asking him to help. Ive always been a get on with it myself kind of person but i guess im gonna have to get used to asking for help. Im going to try Pilates again, see if that helps a bit, i just find it so boring 🙈

leftitlate37 · 21/05/2021 10:35

glad appt went well @Kirky658 and youve felt her move and so has DH! such a big milestone!! good effort with dog walk and mini workout! i need to do more clamshells to improve my niggly right glute!
@SillyBry yeah know what u meant re how it easy it is to pick up covid. I had my vaccine last week and DH managed to get 2nd this week due to leftovers. Glad have had the opportunity as know ppl my age struggling massively with long covid, sounds horrific.
having work on house done soon, and cant wait til its sorted so can sort focusing on baby arriving and BUYING SOME STUFF!!! all weve got is 2nd hand crib and i bought the book from positive birth company but have not made a start yet, argh.
Really need to make a decision on what we are doing for maternity leave/parental leave soon, its such a pain trying to understand our policies so just gonna have 2 make a decision soon! would love to be able to finish early and enjoy the summer but defo will want the time after as probs take 6-9 months.
Sorry some of u struggling with heartburn. im defo finding i need to eat slower and smaller portions at night as otherwise sit on sofa with nasty burps in the evening :s

Kat1112025 · 21/05/2021 11:05

@leftitlate37

Same... Same to all of it! Having work done on the house so haven't bought any baby stuff yet or really prepared at all yet.

Still debating how to share maternity leave and shared parental leave and haven't figured it out... We're not sure when to tell DHs work he wants to take shared parental leave and worried it'll affect his prospects in his current role if he tells them too soon.

leftitlate37 · 21/05/2021 11:23

ooo @Kat1112025 you have made my day!! i feel so unprepared and guilty for it! But good to know am not alone :) what are you having done with the house and is it due to finish any time soon? I find i only have brain capacity to deal with so many things at once!
hope DHs work will be supportive, it's hard when its available for all but such small proportion take it up so doesnt really feel the norm. how r u guys splitting it?

SillyBry · 21/05/2021 11:39

Sorry to hear you've strained yourself @GWhiteley - it's depressing how much less capable we are getting, isn't it?!
I had a slightly hilarious moment this morning... I was taking my horse out for a ride (at rush hour in gale force winds... good thing I love her...!). Because it was early morning, I needed to lock the gate behind me and I usually just jump on her from the grass banks that are higher than the road... never considered this an issue before!
Well... because of the rain, the bank was super slippery, so I ended up on my bum the first time I tried to climb up. Eventually, I get up there... she's stood a little way away because the trees are blowing so wildly... I get one foot in the stirrup and look at the gap I need to "leap"/"spring" from the bank to her back and I'm like "I actually can't do this!" I was like I don't have the bounce and chances are I'm going to belly bash the saddle! So I had to walk her down the road to where there is a big bench and climb on off there... where there are loads of parents unloading their small children for school, who are all gawping and watching me... I felt like fatty needing a stepladder to climb on!!! But I made it! Just reminds me that my body isn't what it was! ;-)

@Kirky658 @leftitlate37 Clam shells sound exactly what I need! My glutes and hips are definitely complaining! I've barely moved all week - I've had horrid headaches and a sore back since Tuesday. For some reason I didn't take paracetamol... thought I could tough it out, but finally gave in yesterday and immediately felt better. (Doh!) Shoulder still playing up, but no headache... woo hoo, so may go for a run between calls today. Definitely need to do some strength work though, I'm just lazy/put it off!

Maternity leave is driving me mad too... I've put in to finish at 39 weeks and take 39 weeks, but I need to work out how/where to use my holiday around that. I'm hoping to work to 38 weeks.

Avoiding heartburn so far, thankfully!

A friend of mine has just trained as a post natal doula and has offered me a "planning session" prior to having baby for free, so she can grow her business. She sent me the paperwork last night - all looks jolly interesting and not something I would have considered doing... but I'm sure it will be nice to have some time to focus on the baby coming and get some planning underway! She's leant me a Sarah Ockwell-Smith book about "The Second Child" as well :-)

SillyBry · 21/05/2021 11:42

PS. Do NOT feel guilty for being underprepared... we have AGES! And newborn babies don't need a whole heap of stuff :-) I saw someone saying they were 22 weeks and hadn't packed their hospital bag yet... I was like god, I didn't pack it until about 34 weeks last time!!!

I feel like I'm cheating slightly as I know we have car seats, cribs etc in the attic... but until I can drag hubby into the attic to tell me what we actually have, I also feel horribly unprepared!

Kat1112025 · 21/05/2021 11:49

@leftilate37

We're renovating the whole downstairs open plan kitchen/living area. It was a dodgy conversion that was done 20+ years ago and needs a lot of work.
Builders are starting properly in the next couple of weeks (just been doing prep work so far moving gas etc.) Hoping to finish by end of July. Sorting it out is taking all my energy so I feel bad I haven't given any time to baby prep. @SillyBry that's good to hear, sometimes it definitely feels like I should be doing more.

I'm planning to take 6months mat leave + some holiday and DH take 5 months. It's what works best for us financially and personality wise, though we're being flexible and will see how we both feel. The difficulty is I don't think he should tell work of this intention 10+ months before he would start SPL, but equally the statutory minimum notice of 8weeks is too short for them to arrange cover.

What are you doing to the house?
