@AdventuresAwait how are you feeling today? Hopefully things from yesterday have settled a little for you?

I told my midwife today my second Covid vaccine is booked the day before my due date and she said ‘oh you’ll probably of had the baby by then’ due to GD… why does everyone say different!! The diabetes Midwife said yesterday they look at inducing around the due date (mines the 3rd sept) if all is ok.
Won’t be seeing the consultant/diabetic team for another 3 weeks!

AdventuresAwait · 16/06/2021 14:20

Thanks for asking @CherLW. Feeling a bit better, especially after talking it through with someone who had similar. For different reasons, it may be that I have a section rather than an induction as it was already discussed for something else. Really want to avoid induction.
I have my 28 week appointment on Friday so will be interested to see what my bump measurement is.
Still waiting for growth scan date and appointment for the diabetic clinic to meet the consultant but they said it would probably be next Thursday.
I think I want to see how my bloods are and how the scan measurements look and make a decision nearer the time.
I'm actually feeling well which is good and we have our 4d scan today! Booked before the GD diagnosis but so looking forward to it as it will cheer me up hopefully (depending on her position!).

CherLW · 16/06/2021 14:29

@AdventuresAwait I’m glad you’re feeling a bit better and have spoken to someone going through similar too… I think the hardest part is the unknown and trying to get our heads round out!

Hopefully by the time my appointment and growth scan comes round I will feel more settled. I just hope my bloods stay similar to they are now and they seem to be in range!

Oh that’s sooo exciting!! That should definitely cheer you up! Will be lovely to see her little face!
I had a check up scan at 24 weeks and they gave me a ‘sneak peak’ at a 4d and even then there was crazy amounts of detail! Hope you have a really good scan and she’s camera ready 💕

Sceptre86 · 16/06/2021 14:56

I think induction in ladies who have gd really does vary from hospital to hospital and the consultant will take a lot of factors into account. For instance it would vary if you had type 1 or type 2 diabetes before pregnancy compared to gestational diabetes. Babies born to mothers with diabetes more often than not put more weight on around the neck and shoulders. Induction is usually scheduled before the due date to stop baby from growing too large. Fundal height measurements vary depending on who does them so from midwife to midwife and are really not an accurate guide of how well a baby is doing Growth scans are better but still not an exact science and I have had them in each of my pregnancies and will in this one too. There are lots of good websites for mums with gestational diabetes but if you feel you need more information to make informed sldecisions speak to your midwife. Remember that consultants will give their advice based on research and experience but that doesn't mean you need to be railroaded into making decisions you are unhappy with. I can't emphasise how important it is to ask what the reasoning is behind certain things they may suggest, don't just take it as gospel. It is fine to question them so you understand what is going on better.

Kirky658 · 16/06/2021 15:22

I'm so concerned reading about all of you being diagnosed with GD as I've got my test next week. 😒

Kirky658 · 16/06/2021 15:23

Ps had my jab this morning! Just tired and a headache so far.

leftitlate37 · 16/06/2021 15:35

hahah @SillyBry love that analogy! Think id prefer the marathon a thousand times over to giving birth tho haha. Good luck for 28w appt, cant believe how long its been since u saw anyone!
so yeah worry over nothing, bump measures small but baby totally fine! over 50th centile with long legs and a stubborn personality it seems as she couldnt get much in the way of head measurements as he was stuck head down and wouldnt budge. worry over, and nice bonus to see him once more! weighing in at just over a kg.
Anyone else just feel absolutely huge and uncomfortable and wondering how the next 3 months or so r gonna be?! i literally feel like im gonna burst. eating gives me no long lasting enjoyment! can be starving and eat and then just feel awful and bloated and uncomfortable. defo think need to pay more attention to the small and often meals. and stop eating my tea so late in the evening. Also defo hoping for an indian summer this year!
well done with jab @Kirky658! hope you'll feel ok overnight and back to normal tomorrow :) good luck for GD test next week.
@AdventuresAwait hope 4d scan goes well, how exciting! we got a sneak peak at 16 weeks and nuts how detailed it was, bet this stagewill be amazing!

bewitchingnight · 16/06/2021 15:57

@CherLW same, mine have all been below 6 as well although I've been quite strict on carbs. I read somewhere the drink for the test is the equivalent to something like 14tsp of sugar so probably unlikely in your normal diet that you would have so much in one go.

@AdventuresAwait oh lovely, hope the baby is in a good position so you can see their little face!

Kat1112025 · 16/06/2021 15:59

Feeling massive, hot and uncomfortable and I'm only 25 weeks!

I just want it to be sunny, 25DegC with the occasional cloud and cold at night. Is that so much to ask?

Yep if I don't eat I feel sick but if I do eat I can only have a tiny amount before I feel massive and stretched. Just 3-4months more 😳. I'm hoping this is just an awkward in-between stage and once I adapt to my new life as a baby elephant everything will seem much easier.

Kat1112025 · 16/06/2021 16:03

@Kirky658 my GD test came back fine (ie I passed). I'm a little chubster and was sure I'd fail it, sometimes it's driven by risk factors and sometimes it's just luck.

Hopefulmummie · 16/06/2021 17:35

So after my midwife saying to me yesterday about the importance of reporting reduced movements and that they would see me how many times I need I had to ring admissions today as haven't felt the baby move much since last night only to be told 27 weeks is very early to be concerned about reduced movements and if I haven't felt her by bedtime to ring again.
Baby is normally very active during the day and I have only felt her move lightly this morning. Getting worried now but feel fobbed off by maternity

AdventuresAwait · 16/06/2021 17:59

Thanks @CherLW, and really glad your levels are good. Thanks for reaching out to me too.

Thanks @leftitlate37. We had a sneak peak at 17 weeks too and it was lovely so hopefully even better now but I've seen such different results with images/videos, it's hard to know how it's going to be. Excited and hopeful though & has given me another focus!

Thank you @bewitchingnight!

Those with GD, do you mind me asking what your levels need to be? Mine have to be lower than 5.3 before a meal and less than 7.8 an hour after.

CherLW · 16/06/2021 18:37

@AdventuresAwait Mine are 5.5 before a meal and 7.5 after my meal but i’ve been told to test 2 hours after my meal.

bewitchingnight · 16/06/2021 19:17

At my hospital they do under 5 when waking and under 7 after meals, although they also said they were lower than the NICE guidelines (5.3 and 7.8) so not to worry if they were slightly over.

Mamabearwhere · 16/06/2021 19:42

@Kat1112025 omg I am exactly the same with feeling super hot and uncomfortable. I keep saying how excited I am for this rain shower that’s due tomorrow. I feel so guilty saying it but I really dislike being pregnant this time round and just want this to be over already.

Does anyone suffer with restless leg syndrome during their pregnancy? I’ve never had it before and randomly the last few days I have terrible restless legs especially at night and it’s driving me insane. Takes me hours to fall asleep. Can’t seem to find much remedies to help.

MrsTD88 · 16/06/2021 20:20

@Hopefulmummie that is terrible, 27 isn't early at all! Can you contact your midwife direct? Have you felt any more movements? I would keep pushing them so they check everything over tonight.

Hopefulmummie · 16/06/2021 20:24

@MrsTD88 I know i thought the same. She was definitely dismissive. I have felt her move a couple of times this evening but she definitely isn't as active as normal and midwife last night said any sort of change in pattern of movements which I think this is

Kirky658 · 16/06/2021 20:25

@kat1112025 thanks hun that's encouraging. With you on the heat, hate it, it's 23 degrees here and I feel like I'm dying!

Also @hopefulmummie if you have a regular pattern of movement regardless of how early it is they should be seeing you! Can you call them again?

I feel dreadful after my jab. Very bad headache, sore arm and absolutely drained. Just feel very out of sorts. 😔 Think I might ring in sick tomorrow if I feel like this still.

Bubbles1st · 16/06/2021 20:27

@Hopefulmummie how annoying for such contradictions from the hospital and midwife. Have the movements restarted? My little man doesn't move much in general so unsure how I'm supposed to monitor him, 28 weeks Friday.

@CherLW my readings have been a bit all over the place. I've managed to suss my meals and all readings since Sunday have been under the target of 7.8 after an hour but I'm struggling with my wake up fasting reading and so far have had 3 readings over the 5.3 target. The consultant told me Monday when he called if I get another couple I need to call them and insulin will be prescribed.

Hoping tomorrow's is fine and I get a chance to really show they are ok. But it's taking a lot of water and exercise so not sure how long I can realistically sustain that myself anyway.

See the consultant and first growth scan on Monday so hoping to have a clearer idea of my current situation and the hospitals policy on induction (however don't even know if my placenta has moved yet and vaginal is an option!)

MrsTD88 · 16/06/2021 20:32

@Hopefulmummie my midwife said the same, report any change to maternity triage. I would maybe try calling again and hope you get someone different, hopefully there has been a shift change.

@Kirky658 I had mine last week at about 7pm. The next morning I had a fever, terrible headache and arm was aching (that hurt for a good few days). The fever went away after a few hours but the headache lingered. Hopefully you'll feel better in the morning.

SillyBry · 16/06/2021 20:54

@Kirky658 oh no, I’m sorry to hear that! Don’t be afraid to take some paracetamol to ease the fever etc.
I’ve just moved my second jab to a bit sooner as more dates are available and I really didn’t want to be feeling awful at 38 weeks!

SP2Bx · 16/06/2021 22:20

@Hopefulmummie Definitely just keep trying if you feel something isn't right! That's naughty of them to be so dismissive 😠 But if you're feeling baby at the usual times just a little less active, I have read it's normal for babies to have lazier days than others it's just the pattern to keep an eye on so try not to panic, could be the heat!!

I have my GTT on Friday morning but also like @Kirky658 am surprised at how many on here have been diagnosed! My sister had GD when she was pregnant with my niece 10 years ago and everything was fine so I never thought it was anything to worry about really and I haven't even thought about the test too much... but now I'm feeling like I should!! Oh well, what will be will be I guess!

AdventuresAwait · 17/06/2021 05:12

@Hopefulmummie, did you feel more movements in the evening or overnight? I phoned about reduced movements at 24 weeks and was seen. Everything was fine, just a quiet day or position change but I was glad for the reassurance. Especially, like you say, they tell you to monitor movement and say it's important to inform them of changes!
Just wondered how you were doing now?

Hopefulmummie · 17/06/2021 07:15

@AdventuresAwait she's been very active lately all day a bit more in morning and evening but id still feel her alot during the day too.
Ive been feeling movement since yesterday evening so will just keep an eye on it today x

AdventuresAwait · 17/06/2021 07:31

@Hopefulmummie, glad you've felt movements yesterday evening! Hopefully that will continue today x
