@Taybz depending what your budget is like or if you can find one second hand you can get expanding cribs like Stokke which starts off small and goes right up to bed and would last many years.
I don't have one but know a few people who have loved it.

@Bubbles1st @Taybz this is what I’ve bought. I didn’t know of it but saw one advertised second hand nearby. I found a place online that do mattresses for it too much cheaper than the stokke brand and they have good reviews.

Kirky658 · 14/06/2021 09:35

@raerae84 definitely not alone in feeling overwhelmed. I must have a panic at least 2 or 3 times a week now x

GWhiteley · 14/06/2021 09:54

Please tell me someone else is feeling as hot as I do right now 🥵

Hands & feet are almost throbbing & there's just no air in our office. Doesn't help the sun comes in on the side I sit in the morning.

Kat1112025 · 14/06/2021 10:24

@GWhiteley I'm ok now in an Aircon office but last night was grim. The only way I could sleep was by draping wet t-shirts across me. Then re-soaking them every time I woke up hot. So tired today 😩

GWhiteley · 14/06/2021 10:36

@Kat1112025 our air con is opening the windows! So I am very jealous.

Just put my shoes back on to go & get a drink refill & they only just fit, so going to have to go & get a pair of flip flops at lunchtime 😂

Last night wasn't pleasant, going to try taking the duvet out the cover tonight as just like my mid section covered

CherLW · 14/06/2021 11:59

Just missed a call from the diabetic midwife following my GTT Last week and now I can’t get hold of them again… so now just worrying about what they are going to say and what’s next 😞

CherLW · 14/06/2021 12:19

Just as I say that they call me… lady on the phone wasn’t great. She said I have GD… I said will you be able to explain why or what level as I have no idea and she just said ‘well you’ve got it’… doesn’t matter if people have it at worse levels or not. Now I’m just worried and have to go in tomorrow morning!

Bubbles1st · 14/06/2021 13:35

@CherLW she is right and try not to worry, all they have done is identified you have it but until you start Mobutu your blood sugar levels they can't really say too much more.

I only started monitoring Friday. The consultant called me this morning to do through all my readings and said if I have two more days of high fasting readings when I wake up then I need to call and he will put me straight on insulin.

I've spent all weekend het up and worried and I'm sure that just made me feel worse. I'm trying not to stress and what will be will be.

Hopefully tomorrow's appointment will leave you clean on what the plan is for you and when you will be reviewed.

Mobortu? Monitoring.....

OP posts:
CherLW · 14/06/2021 13:52

Thanks @Bubbles1st, any information is power to me and I hate not knowing what’s happening.
The lady was just not helpful or reassuring on the phone which didn’t help.

I’m trying not to google but it’s hard which then just makes me think the worst.

Have you found the blood sugar tests ok? I hope you’re doing ok and sorry to hear you’ve been worrying a lot this weekend. I guess it’s natural in a way to worry so much about the unknown.

I think my own factor is a higher BMI but it’s not overly high… just need to think that anyone can get GD and try not to worry 🤞🏼😞

Kirky658 · 14/06/2021 14:18

@cherlw as @bubbles1st has said its easy to be concerned and Google the hell out of things! I'm at higher risk as both parents have type 2 diabetes, but my midwife hasn't even sent off the request for my test yet it would seem... From what I have read though, as long as its well controlled it can be well managed and it won't harm the baby and goes away after pregnancy x

CherLW · 14/06/2021 14:39

@Kirky658 it’s crazy isn’t it how some midwives delay things… mine was booked since my 12 week scan as they sorted all those things out then.

Thank you 🥰 I hope so, just worry as it says he could be too big, be born early etc… I just need to avoid google like the plague!!

SillyBry · 14/06/2021 15:14

I'm surprised I wasn't pulled in for GD test as my dad has diabetes and I had to have it last time round... but it's not been mentioned. It's my 28 week check on Friday, so I will double check with her... but I thought the test had to be done before 28 weeks. We'll see!!

CherLW · 14/06/2021 15:24

@SillyBry I had mine bang on 28 weeks… it’s weird how all trusts are different with something like this 🤷🏻‍♀️

bewitchingnight · 14/06/2021 15:30

Much sympathy @CherLW I hope your appointment is helpful tomorrow. I've been monitoring since Thursday, it's a lot to get your head around. As annoying as it is to hear other than them finding out you have it I think the monitoring part is when they can talk about how best to manage it - although sounds like some empathy on the phone wouldn't have gone amiss!

CherLW · 14/06/2021 15:35

Thank you @bewitchingnight I really hope it’s helpful too and not the woman who was on the phone! I was shocked as surely they know telling people that is going to cause worry and concern!

How are you finding the monitoring? I hope you’re doing ok with it 💕. Hopefully I’ll start tomorrow and they can then tell me what’s best to do next.

bewitchingnight · 14/06/2021 16:02

Yes fingers crossed I'm sure it will be someone else Smile and like you say knowledge is power and it certainly made me feel better to at least have something constructive to do!

It's been ok so far, my results have all been in the right range but waiting to get a call back after a week when they'll review it. Haven't properly worked out what to eat though!

GWhiteley · 14/06/2021 16:03

I had mine last Wednesday & have heard nothing so far, even though they said Monday at the latest 🤷‍♀️ I've got a midwife app on weds so will ask her then

SillyBry · 14/06/2021 16:18

@CherLW Honestly, medical professionals can be the worst. It's so every day for them!
I had an ectopic pregnancy last year and the Dr was like "well, it's an ectopic that has ruptured so I'm sorry to say you need theatre. Gosh, your tummy is so full of blood! And there was me hoping for an easy morning! Tell me, do you have childcare arranged for your daughter? Did you bring an overnight bag? We'll get your bloods and pre op done and whizz you straight into surgery and remove your tube..."
It was literally SO every day for them... and I understand it was an emergency, so time was of the essence, but there was not a moment to explain what was happening, offer me any sympathy... literally "sign these forms, pee in this pot, have these bloods... and noone can come into the hospital to bring you an overnight bag, but we can't let you leave!"

I SO understand the pressures they are under, but they really do forget the every day for them is quite scary for the patient.
I would suggest there will be some charities/websites that will probably offer a great deal more support and understanding for you!

I'm not too worried if they have missed me off the test as I didn't have it last time and I've been fit and active so far through pregnancy, so I think my only qualifying criteria is my dad.

I hope everyone is surviving the muggy weather! I'm living off ice lollies at the minute!

CherLW · 14/06/2021 16:25

@bewitchingnight I’m hoping when I start they will be in a good range and things will go well… I think it will make me really try to alter things so they get better.

I get the pressure they are under too, it must be even harder with Covid and things but sometimes a little care would go a long way 😞 luckily you until that call everyone has been so lovely.

@SillyBry oh goodness 😞 that’s so sad, I really feel for you having to go through that… I had a missed miscarriage last year and they really with those things all the time at the hospital but for people like us it’s so new and such a shock.

No more ice lollies for me 😭

FTEngineerM · 14/06/2021 16:27

That’s kind, feel free to ignore my ramblings though @RaeRae84 😳 every labour is different after all!

@Bubbles1st wow that’s a seriously cool cot, I’ve seen some lush super stylish ones on some threads on here, I end up thinking gosh why aren’t we that stylish😂.

I’m sweaty too @GWhiteley I’m back working from home because I coughed once in the office and was told not to come back until it’s gone 🙄 but my ‘office’ is now a south facing bedroom and it’s rank. Looooong summer ahead.

GTT is next Tuesday, at 28+2 so I think ours is a standard ‘so it at the 28week mark’ time.

@SillyBry that sounds petrifying! But you’ve got through it and are now pregnant again, phew.

SillyBry · 14/06/2021 16:39

@FTEngineerM @CherLW thanks. It was a little rough. But I’m very lucky - I fell pregnant very quickly after despite losing a Fallopian tube. But someone just taking 5 minutes to explain even that your fertility isn’t halved by losing a tube would’ve been endlessly reassuring! And that actually removing the tube was safer/put me at less risk of further ectopics than saving it.

But hey, that’s what google and recovery time is for 😉🤣

Ohhhh no, I forgot no ice lollies!! Can you make diabetic friendly ice lollies?! I lived on crunching ice cubes and lollies in my first pregnancy! And I’ve just taken up the habit again now!

Coughing and being sent home from the office sounds like a great, if unintentional, plan - I think I’m surviving this pregnancy by working from home. So much easier to manage my aches snd pains!

RaeRae84 · 14/06/2021 16:39

@Taybz I know it's really hard. I did have a meltdown on Saturday but I think it's mainly because I am so tired a lot of the time and frustrated at not being able to continue my life as normal. I'm always on the go normally and I feel like I am just either at work or laying down! We aren't massively organised but we have the main bits, mainly as they were given to us by family as they are no longer needed. I will just do a mass online shop one night and get the last essential items. Everything else can wait until he's here and we can buy as we go. The car seat and baby carrier were two things we did buy. God the car seat was a stress. Trying to work out how to fit it was definitely not fun 🙈
I think as ftm we are scared and panicky about stuff because people make you feel like you NEED all this stuff when really we don't. It's hugely overwhelming because we don't have a clue.
@Kirky658 sorry you're feeling like that, that's really rubbish 😔 I've not suffered with any attacks, just have a meltdown every now and then. I would say speak to your midwife as mine always checks on mental health but I know you said you didn't have the best one. Least you have a supportive DH.

I posted in the Facebook group about a towel that really has helped keep me cool over the weekend. It won't drip everywhere. Hopefully it will help keep you cool in all this heat!

RaeRae84 · 14/06/2021 16:42

@FTEngineerM I find it interesting knowing what everyone goes through. I would much rather hear all about it! Plus if something similar happens to me,I would be strangely reassured!
