Just what I said, really, 37 weeks now and wondering whether I should start sitting on a towel on our beautiful and very impractical linen sofa Bought, needless to say, before marriage was on the cards, never mind babies!!!

10 days after my due date I got fed up and went out to a restaurant, my waters broke in the middle of our main course! the contractions started about 5 minutes afterwards very strong. We were in such a panic the waitress gave us the wrong bill and we just paid it, a week later we read the reciept and discovered we'd paid for a group of 6!! gutting!

Spink · 10/11/2007 14:51

mine went in the middle of the night, in bed. We had one of those hippychick mattress protectors (new mattress, concerned dh) and it worked perfectly, even though it was a BIG gush..

katpotat · 10/11/2007 17:32

As soon as I got back in the house , all over the living room floor..... after being sent home from hospital!!

Princesspowersparkle · 10/11/2007 18:52

I got out of bed for the 3rd time in 10 mins to go to the loo and the waters just came- I run to the loo clutching myself hoping it wouldn't go all over the place! Funnily enough the night before I had got into bed and layed there thinking 'hmmmm, I really should sleep in a towel and put a sanitary towel on, just in case'. My worst nightmare was them breaking in bed or when I was out...

Princesspowersparkle · 10/11/2007 18:55

Oh, and that was 4 days before I had my daughter- she was quite happy in there!!

lulalullabye · 10/11/2007 18:55

in the birthing pool after she had come out !! Apparantly very lucky.

Sitting on the loo - unfortunately the seat was down.

ja9 · 10/11/2007 22:58

both times very late on in labour. iirc about half hour before each dc born.

weeonion · 10/11/2007 23:01

on the delivery table as i pushed her out!

Thomcat · 11/11/2007 20:02

1st time - they came out whole, thought - ohhh that can't have been the baby, or if it was, bloddy hell that was easy!

2nd time - on the loo and all over the bathroom floor as it was a slow long pouring out of

3rd time - well, started at home as I got up off the bed but then carried on all over the car and then the platform of our local tube station as I ran up and down it trying to find DP!

micegg · 11/11/2007 20:13

In the loo. I went for a pee and wondered why it wasnt stopping. Started as a very noticeable but relatively small gush followed byt he niagra falls as I walked down the corridor of the hospital to the labour ward

RGPargy · 11/11/2007 20:50

Squix - PMSL!!!

spugs · 12/11/2007 08:39

mine went in hospital both times when i was about 5/6 cms. with dd1 id just sat down on a chair and there was this huge gush. really freaked me out as there was so much.
with dd2 id got up off the toilet and thought i was still weeing! apart from it was a bit pink, babies head was so long it was just a little trickle.

frazzledbutcalm · 12/11/2007 10:19

with all 4dc my waters were broken by midwife, 3 for induction, 1 as i felt they were in my way when trying to push baby out. once popped, i pushed her out without feeling a blockage! Think i've missed out on something special as they haven't broken themselves!!

GillL · 12/11/2007 15:04

Both times I was in bed. The first time it happened when I sneezed.

choufleur · 12/11/2007 19:19

In Asda. everyone has told me that i should have stopped and grabbed an assistant as i might have got free things. too be honest that wasn't the first thing on my mind - they only went at the top though so it was just a trickle, no big gushes.

gladders · 13/11/2007 10:55

ds - pop and huge gush in bed at 6.30am (managed to cross legs to limit flow until dh arrived with towels!! bed fine)

dd - hind water started leaking when shopping - rest soaked very peaved registrar in theatre!

dizzysteph · 13/11/2007 16:21

On the No. 6 bus on the way home from work. Luckily had black trousers on that day.

tiredandgrumpy · 13/11/2007 19:50

ds - with a trickle, whilst lying down on the settee watching Jonathan Ross. No big deal, no mess, just haven't been able to watch him again in quite the same light.

dd - broken by midwife in hospital halfway through labour. Went with a massive gush & no one quite prepared for the amount of fluid which poured out.

northernsoul · 13/11/2007 20:36

first ds was hind waters in hospital on due date, more a trickle than a gush

second ds was in the middle of the night, i was booked in for a cesaerean the following morning, woke up in pure panic at 3am not knowing what the hell was going on for a second or two and then it registered.
And that was a big gush and carried on for quite some time

mumzyof2 · 16/11/2007 21:27

With ds it was in my mum and dads spare room. Id been in labour (forever) and for weeks before, my mum had been telling me to put a plastic cover on my bed as apparently the waters can rot your mattress, at the least, smell abit; TMI, (tip, old, or cheap shower curtains under your sheets works) so I did, then on the one time i decided to sleep at my parents house (i was single) my waters broke in the spare bed in the middle of the night. There was no sheet...lots of water gushing. Mum wasnt quite as prepared with the "it rots your bed" preach as she thought!
