Just what I said, really, 37 weeks now and wondering whether I should start sitting on a towel on our beautiful and very impractical linen sofa Bought, needless to say, before marriage was on the cards, never mind babies!!!

First time while in labour in the bath at the hospital. Second time they broke my waters at hospital when I was 8cm dilated.

It's funny but I was never concerned about them breaking in bed or anything before. Might find something to sleep on this time round just in case!!!

clayre · 09/11/2007 20:27

first time was down the toilet at the hospital, thought i was needing a poo!
second time was in my bed there was gallons of the stuff so i got up cleaned my self up then changed the sheets then the labour kicked in.

Just before DS was born on my living room floor, all over the midwife (she was about to break them for me).

We had a mattress topper and a plastic sheet on our bed (with normal bedding on top) from a week or so before my due date just in case...

After two days of contractions with DS, whilst the midwife was doing a vaginal exam. Not sure whether they broke spontaneously or as a result of her prodding around. It was like a flood when they went, fortunately there was a towel under me at the time.

In the mw's face

ChasingSquirrels · 09/11/2007 20:39

ds1 - 37wks - on the sofa
ds2 - 36+6wks - sitting reading on the bed
both were hind waters so more a trickle than a gush - my underwear and trousers got damp, but the sofa/bed were both fine.

I feel cheated - my waters didn't break at all (well I'm sure they must have but it was just as I was pushing DS out and I didn't notice!). I was looking forward to a big gush as I was standing in M&S or something so people would all run over and fuss over me!

WinnieThePooh · 09/11/2007 20:57

With DD1 I got up tp the loo at 2.50am and realised that my waters had gone.

DD2 my waters broke during an almighty contraction when I was in the hospital 30 minutes before she was born.

BettySpaghetti · 09/11/2007 21:00

DD - in bed, in the middle of the night (I woke up a split second before it happened)

DS - as above

WeaselMum · 09/11/2007 21:02

In DP's brand new car on the way to the hospital

funnypeculiar · 09/11/2007 21:03

ds - in bed in middle of the night. I went for a wee and discovered I was apparently weeing all the way there
dd - waters broken in hospital

francagoestohollywood · 09/11/2007 21:07

In hospital, 1 hr before ds was born
In hospital 17 mins before dd was born

Jaysthird · 09/11/2007 21:12

in the birthing pool, a mere 7 mins before he popped out!!

Frizbe · 09/11/2007 21:14

in hosptial both times, roughly 13 mins before dd2 and 40mins before dd1

jamila169 · 09/11/2007 21:14

DS1 -in hospital after about 3 attempts, managed to soak the midwife though
DS2 at home about 90 seconds before he was born -midwife just managed to get out 'would you like me to - oh bloody hell' as it filled her shoes
DD at home about a minute before she was born midwife says'the waters are bulging' I said 'I wouldn't stand there' and pop! another pair of wet trainers lol!

dosydot · 09/11/2007 21:37

15 hours before onset of any pains and 35 hours beforebitrh of DD
Popped in bed on due date = massive gush no warning

kiansmum · 09/11/2007 22:03

DD1, DS1 and DS2 my waters had to broken when i was in labour and as they were broken the force helped the babies out very quickly.
However, with DD2 who was born 8 weeks ago. I was laying on the sofa with 3 weeks to go til her due date and it felt like i'd wet myself.
I went into hospital but because my waters were all gone it made the birth alot harder even tho she was my smallest at 6lb 5ozs.

RGPargy · 09/11/2007 22:05

Mine just went with a trickle as i was sitting on the sofa watching TV. If i sat forward, it would stop, but if sat back, it would trickle out.

After reading this thread i think i'll get those dry nights things!!

lemonaid · 09/11/2007 22:06

At home, getting out of bed. With a big gush. I hadn't realised that it would just keep coming out for ages and ages, either -- was a very soggy taxi ride to hospital.

HaveYourselfaNortyLittleXmas · 09/11/2007 22:07

in my lounge all over the carpet, in one huge gush, 48 hours before DD arrived

Don't believe those stories saying your waters won't gush if you are standing up

scienceteacher · 09/11/2007 22:08

Always in the second stage of labour.

chatee · 09/11/2007 22:14

dd- was in hospital being monitored and was lying on the bed (hadn't moved or anything) and gush, gawd i was embarrassed!!!

until

ds- was at the local swimming baths as dd finidhed her lesson-BIGGER GUSH and me saying to dd who was only 3 hurry up getting dry dd i need your towel
why mummy..look you've done a wee.....

can anyone beat that?

we still celebrate this at our local baths

halfkiwi · 09/11/2007 22:24

after 48 hours of contractions - the midwife was doing an internal and was showing me the knitting needle thingie to break them herself when they went gush all over her hand (I reckon she must have tweaked them!
My DH was amazed and got me a clean pair of pants with a santitary pad only to be told that I probably wouldn't be needing them any more - bless!

vole3 · 10/11/2007 11:43

Had a small seep in Adnams wine shop in Southwold whilst DH wine tasting, but went properly in the bath on the delivery suite - remember saying to DH that it felt like a bubblegum bubble bursting but the wrong end
