How close to your due date did you give birth

I'm on my second cycle atm so if I was pregnant now I'd be due 3rd Dec. If I got pregnant next month I'd be due 27th Dec. I'm thinking of skipping next cycle as I really don't want the baby to have a Xmas birthday but I think I'm being stupid as I know someone whose birthday is then and she was due in April! Most people that I've spoken to haven't given birth near their due date so I'm jw how close to your due date did you give birth and would you try and avoid a Xmas baby?

My labour was more long than anything else. I was due on the Sunday 30th august 2015, I was booked in for a sweep originally on the Wednesday, but I started having contractions on the Tuesday so I decided to see if things would progress naturally. They didn't so I ended up having a sweep at 3pm on the Friday (40+5).
I got to the hospital at 9 that evening, was in the birth centre by 10.30, had my waters broken around 2am, then gave birth at 6.58am the Saturday morning (40+6).
It didn't hurt or feel uncomfortable at all and it did help move things along (the head wasn't fully engaged so things wouldn't have progressed on their own).

@Arrierttyclock I gave birth 3 days after my due date. I would avoid a Xmas baby mainly because my birthday is in December and everybody is so focused on Xmas I kind of think December birthdays always seem to take a bit of a back seat. Maybe not from immediate family but that's just me 😊

insancerre · 21/03/2021 17:08

First child was 4 days after and second was on due date
I would avoid a Christmas baby if I could

ChristinaYang10 · 21/03/2021 17:10

Bang on.

We’re TTC and if I get pregnant this cycle my due date will be Christmas Day (unless it changes at the scan, which my DD’s didn’t). We’re still carrying on

EvilOnion · 21/03/2021 17:11

#1 - 40+6
#2 - 39+5

I would avoid if I could but as you say there are no guarantees even if you do work it out so I wouldn't put too much emphasis on it.

Babdoc · 21/03/2021 17:13

DD2 was born 15 minutes too soon for Christmas Eve, which was her due date.
She’s in her 30’s now, but still feels hard done by, having a birthday so close to Christmas.
DD1 arrived one week early. I suspect on purpose, to nobble DH and my planned final romantic weekend before we became parents!

Clockingon · 21/03/2021 17:13

37 weeks and 39+5.

stuckinarutatwork · 21/03/2021 17:13

First was 13 days after my due date, second was 3 days after.

Bellver888 · 21/03/2021 17:14

13 days before, was due on Xmas day and gave birth on the 12th, DS was v considerate 🤣

ChilliChaos · 21/03/2021 17:15

38+5
39+5
41+6
40+3

All different

Arrierttyclock · 21/03/2021 17:15

Just so hard to know but I might skip next cycle and if I do give birth over Xmas then at least I've tried. DH dosent want to skip it because he thinks what if that's the only month I can get pregnant. Hard to know but I just feel like we've only just started trying so one month isn't going to make a massive difference and the baby will have to live with a Xmas birthday which would be horrible for them. Sorry for the rambling- just wish you could pick a date 😂

1-39+6
2-40 exactly
3-40 exactly

Arrierttyclock · 21/03/2021 17:16

@Bellver888 aw that's a lovely birthday! Clever boy arriving early!

Mine were 39+6 then 38+5. So DC1 would've been Boxing Day, if a due date of 27th.

I know Christmas birthdays are a bit rubbish but I'd probably not skip a month to avoid, tbh. But mine were both summer conceptions and spring babies so I never really had to decide that.

feliznavidad2 · 21/03/2021 17:18

Our now 4yo was due 15th Jan, ended up being induced on 29th December due to complications and he was born on 1st Jan... 🥴

Cap89 · 21/03/2021 17:25

41+6

I’d avoid a Christmas baby. I’d give it a miss seeing as you’re only on your second cycle.

weegiemum · 21/03/2021 17:26

Dd1 - 4 days early
Ds - 10 days early
Dd2 - 36+6 (induced).

Celeste86 · 21/03/2021 17:26

I went into labour on my due date which was the Friday afternoon but I was in slow painful labour for days as my dilation was so slow she didn't arrive until the early hours of Tuesday at 3am so it was like 3 days 12hours+ I was in Labour but then she came in around 12mins of pushing! It was a LED unit so I couldn't have any medical intervention without being sent to a hospital and at no point did they think it was a worry.

Babies come when they want to come there is no controlling, they cant give you even a rough estimate as it can progress fast or slow, start slow and suddenly speed up, they can come early or late.

I personally wouldn't want to have a baby at Christmas if I was planning it if I'm honest, I'd probably skip it for that month. I wouldn't want it to be all about Christmas and family buying one expensive gift combining birthday and Christmas, When my other children get completely the separate events!

I have 2 friends one born in December and the other Christmas they both hate it!

FruitLoopzz · 21/03/2021 17:27

Dc1 - 2 days before due date
Dc2 - around 10 days before due date

BurningBenches · 21/03/2021 17:29

Mine have been:

42 (induced)
40+9
42 (induced)
40+1 (but induced due to size otherwise he would have been more like the others I'm sure)

Tarahumara · 21/03/2021 17:30

My DH has a birthday of 27 Dec (he was late). He didn't like it as a child, but as an adult it's actually really nice as a date. We're both always off work and we have friends over, usually everyone has had enough of their families by then and ready for a few drinks!

EllieRosesMammy · 21/03/2021 17:30

My daughter was born 9 days late. She was due the 14th of December but arrived on the 23rd (two days before Christmas) I really hate how close her birthday is to Christmas and I know its gonna be rubbish when shes older cause people are just gonna be bothered about Christmas. Second baby is due beginning of October which I'm happier about cause atleast nothing is going on😂

TrashPanda · 21/03/2021 17:32

6 days, 6 days & 9 days late

Heartofglass12345 · 21/03/2021 17:34

My first was due 17th July and came on may 12th, second due on 1st jan and came on 13th November. I thought he might end up being a Christmas baby's but didn't even end up being born in December lol

BeHappyAndSmile · 21/03/2021 17:36

Mine arrived on his due date (just) after 3 loooong days of labour so I would definitely avoid a December baby.
