Lost twin at 16 week other one suffering

Hey, looking for similar experience. I am 37 yrs old, pregnant with twins, or was pregnant with twins, had NT scan at 12 weeks and was good. I did the screening test and it came back high risk for Down syndrome, my beta HCG was elevated at 3.2 and papp-a was so low at 0.39 .. so they put me at high risk of 1:17; did an nipt test, although not so accurate with twins and came back negative.
They suggested amnio at 16 weeks. I went on that day to discover that one of babies has no heartbeat and the other one diagnosed with severe symmetric IUGR. Baby was measuring 16 days behind
The twins were di/di with one placentia fused and seperated by wall
Any recomendatios or past experiences. I am dying unfortunately.. i git pregnant thru iui and thought it was really a miracle

Hi op, I'm sorry, your op has a lot of acronyms that I don't fully understand and I've never had twins or the screening tests so in no position to offer advice but I'm hoping my comment will bump this for you a bit.

I lost a twin and the only way I can describe it was like having a birthday party and funeral at the same time.

I really hope that you and the surviving twin get through this, the consultant will be the best person to advise you.

I was 40 and got pregnant through ivf. Surviving twin now a beautiful young woman.

Not the same experience but had a confirmed twin pregnancy at 8 weeks but after a bleed one twin died and was reabsorbed back into my body (vanishing twin syndrome) The rest of the pregnancy went ahead ok (except my shredded nerves) and my son was born healthy. I am so sorry you are going through this.

So sorry to hear that OP. What have the drs suggested happens next? I didn’t have iugr but had one twin who had a poor prognosis and had all manner of tests and twice weekly scans with my consultant. Are you still waiting for the results of the amnio on the other twin?

Were your twins identical or not? And how was the other one doing?
The genetic councler is concerned that one died and the other one very very small and that early so the head development may be affected

What is poor prognosis?
Well they are suggesting amnio and genetic testing that will check baby and parents genetic to decide what is causing that, but this will take about a month to know
Am not sure why the iugr was that early that killed one and other one suffering and may not survive

No my twins were not identical, I had ivf and two eggs put back in. Fingers crossed for you x

I lost a twin except I didn't know until after dd was born because there was no early scans and the only one at 18 weeks was rubbish resolution. They told me at my 6 week check up as a passing comment

I'm so sorry you are going through this. You must be very frightened and feeling helpless and angry. It just is not fair after all you have gone through toget them.

Unfortunately I lost my ID twin girls 12 years ago to twin to twin transfusion. I remember those horrible days and weeks when all I could do was wait and see feeling scared, lonely, angry but hopeful.

I do hope your little twin holds on and gains strength. The drs will do all they can.

@Heyppl poor prognosis as there were lots of indications he would be very poorly and we didn’t know if he would survive (he did thankfully). If you are doing the amnio, the results are quite quick. I have also been through genome sequencing where they test baby and parents and it can take a while. Hopefully the amnio will give you some more answers.

I just did the amnio for the living twin and waiting on results and terrified every day

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant and today we found out at our 20 week scan that one twin died two or three weeks ago so I really feel your pain. I’m 35 and also had non identical twins through IUI- truly a miracle!
Our other surviving twin is healthy but measuring very small and we will find out if she had a good chance of surviving in two weeks for our next scan. They told us it’s high risk of miscarriage and early premature birth too. We will be offered a amnio in two weeks depending on on the surviving twins developments.

I’m here if you want to talk- it’s absolutely heartbreaking to loose a baby.

@Heyppl on the NHS we were low risk (1 in 323) with twin 1 (surviving twin) but high risk just in the cusp (1 in 150) with twin 2 who didn’t survive. Had a harmony test/NIPT done at 16 weeks at Fatal Medicine Centre on Harley street but ours also came back low risk 1 in 10000.

@NorthLondonTwins .. we are very similar, except am still in the 17 week now. It’s truely hard and like a nightmare, can’t believe it.
We did the amnio, still waiting on results. The other baby measuring below 1% precentile.
Did they tell you what precentile the other twin is at? Did they figure out why one of twins died at all?
Are you planning on doing anything like eating or resting?
I am very down all time ..

@Heyppl our surviving twin is measuring on the 6th centile so also very small. We have been given a range of possible reasons for this; placental insufficiency, congenital infection, a genetic condition or it could be linked to the stress inside the body from the other twin dying. Our next appointment is in 2 weeks and we will just have to hope and pray that her growth has started to pick up again. We will only know for sure why the other twin died post delivery when they will perform tests on both placentas. The consultant recommended to just try to carry on as before, eating well and moderate activity - she said not to lie in bed all day as could risk a blood clot. Please let me know her you get on. @NorthLondonTwins .. never heard about the reason becoz of stress that other one died, coz they are in different sacs. You are way better than us, mine is 2 weeks behind.
They told me either the body will absorb the dead fetus or it will cause complications for the other one.
My doctor giving me all bad news. He thinks it’s genetic disorder and will be if survived a special need kid .. this is what he keeps telling us.
I am terrified baby wouldn’t be able to make it and everyday is like a nightmare.
I put myself on bedrest, not all day in bed, but trying to save all calories for baby, plus eating better, hoping it will make a difference, but i do not know .. will know in coming weeks as well!

Amnio came back negative but the other twin passed away as well
