So it's my first and I've had a right ride, personally and physically... Deaths in family, stress at work, every pregnancy symptom under the sun but full on version, i.e. Had to get medication for morning sickness that's practically lashed throughout blah blah blah... I've eaten well... Just too much, made sure I've had meat 2 veg etc, lots of fruit, vitamins but a lot of snacks/comfort food to... I started off at 12.7st...now 15.6, 4 weeks to go.... This is the obviously more weight gained than was recommended for my initial BMI... I don't have diabetes, and self monitor anyway with the same dip sticks the NHS use.
Just wondering if any other mums out there gained more weight than recommended and what your experiences were in terms of baby size, labour etc etc.
Please don't beat me up for being careless, it's been a shit time.

I think it's doesn't matter how much weight you gain as long as you lose it afterwards.

I went for 8stone 11lbs to 10 stone 8lbs and had an 7lb5oz baby which is around average baby size.

I had a friend who went from 8 stone to 13 stone but lost it all within 6-7 months afterwards!

EvilOnion · 19/03/2021 10:51

#1 was 6lbs 15oz - gained 4st (I stuffed my face with Easter eggs BlushGrin)

#2 was 7lbs 2oz - gained 1lb but I was pretty overweight to start with so was more sensible and vomitting every evening until she was born probably contributed to that!

Helenknowsbest · 19/03/2021 11:05

My total pregnancy weight gain has been 1lb. I lost a stone because of hyperemesis and never really got much of an appetite back after it faded.

annlee3817 · 19/03/2021 11:09

I gained four stone and DD was 7lbs 10oz, I had a lot of water retention which I think was a big part of the weight gain as three stone had gone by the time she was three months

Janxyb · 19/03/2021 11:34

I didn't gain any weight but had a high BMI to start with and then strict GD diet. Baby born 6lbs 10oz at 38 weeks. I really wouldn't worry, you'll loose alot when you give birth and the rest will come off ☺️ x

FlashesOfRage · 19/03/2021 11:39

Give yourself a big hug and then cut yourself a load of slack x

I gained 4.5st and my twins were 6lbs8 and 7lbs1 at 37 weeks

I lost 2.5st in water weight within two weeks of birth! So you may be surprised x

PurpleFlower1983 · 19/03/2021 11:39

I gained over 3 stone in total, DD was 7lb 8 and came at 38 weeks. Easy labour/birth. Not so easy to lose after though!

Toastedsesame · 19/03/2021 11:43

I was 10st and went up to 12st3, baby was 7lb 3oz but literally a month after the birth I was under 10st so I think a lot of it was fluid.

Sanch1 · 19/03/2021 11:47

I've gained 4-5 stone with each of mine because I like eating! Lost it afterwards so can't see the problem!

SugarCoatIt · 19/03/2021 11:49

With my first I put on between two and three stone, same with my second.

I looked massive with my first, but DC1 was 6 lbs 2 and my second was 6lb 14.

I wouldn't worry too much OP, whenever I was anxious I tended to rely on food for comfort, and I know I snacked and comfort ate more than I should have, but like you, we had had so many emotionally draining and testing times that it put it all in perspective.

Give yourself a break, it's not a massive amount to have put on and it will come off slowly but surely once baba comes, 9 months on, 9 months off, you'll lose some after you give birth and I daresay a lot will be fluid retention, etc. as well.

Just enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and look forward to when baby is here.

Sairafina · 19/03/2021 11:50

I put on just shy of 3 stone, 9st 2 to 12st. Gave birth to my son at the end of October and he weighed 6lbs 15. Hopped on the scales this morning and 9st 3 so just the one pesky pound to go!

Chelyanne · 19/03/2021 12:00

1st gained 4st, baby was 7lb 7oz at 39+6
2nd gained 4st, baby was 10lb 12oz at 40+5
3rd gained 2.5st, baby was 9lb 10oz
4&5th (twins) I stopped weighing myself once I got to 2st gain, they were 8lb 5oz & 8lb 11oz at 38wk. I was 7lb heavier after birth than pre-pregnancy so not too bad.
Currently on 1.5st gained, only 18+3wk, too much carb loading but slowly getting back to healthier eating.

Chelyanne · 19/03/2021 12:01

3rd was born at 40+2, missed that

Luckyelephant1 · 19/03/2021 12:07

Does most of the weight gain happen in 3rd trimester? At 23 weeks I've only put on 2kg so far, this is despite me eating normally and snacking on more carbs and sugar than I usually do. Just wondering if it suddenly starts piling on at some point...

isadorapolly · 19/03/2021 12:23

Your weight gain doesn’t necessarily mean your baby will be big (or small)

For what it’s worth I’ve had 7 children and am on number 8, I’ve never put on weight when pregnant and with a few of them I actually lost weight. I tend to just go off food when I’m pregnant and I’ve had awful sickness the whole way through with some of them. It’s afterwards when I’m breastfeeding I put the weight on Blush.

All of my babies have been between 8 and 9lb. Smile

Thank you so much mammas! You've all been really lovely about it, and some of you have made me cry (in a good way!) thank you so much Flowers I think you always imagine you'll do your best for your baby and when you don't you feel very guilty... I feel I've been selfish but I've had to do what I've done just to tetanus through and cope so I guess that's just as important. It's so lovely to have your support, thank you xxxx

I put on 4st both times, I like to think of it as dedicated commitment to eating a LOT of chocolate. Both dc were 8.5lbs.

otterbaby · 19/03/2021 12:46

I gained 50lbs 😳 I ate healthily but I was STARVING constantly. Baby was born at 7lbs 10oz so totally normal. And 4.5 months later I'm back at pre-pregnancy weight. Bodies are weird! I remember I was so stressed because I was over the weight gain threshold, but it really doesn't matter. Try not to stress x

1990shopefulftm · 19/03/2021 12:48

Gained 4 stone, he was 9lb 15oz but he was almost 12 days late, not the best labour experience but honestly that was the hospital's fault for being ridiculously short staff and not his size at all

user159 · 19/03/2021 12:48

2 stone weight gain - when DD was finally born at 42 weeks she was exactly 8lb. Back in clothes within 2 weeks. I am tall though so I am sure that helped. Body shape is slightly different but weight back to normal for me.

annonymousse · 19/03/2021 12:50

First baby 8lb 4oz. Total weight gain about 5 stone. Lost it within 3 months - mostly fluid and was quite poorly after the birth. Second baby 10lb 4 oz. total weight gain 15lb. Weighed less immediately after giving birth than at the start of the pregnancy.

starsinyourpies · 19/03/2021 12:52

3DC, gained around 4 stone with each, all 10lb babies.

HungryHippo20 · 19/03/2021 14:30

Hi @BattyPancake I was quite similar to you, started at 13 stone and my final weight was 15 stone 10lbs 😳 baby was 9lbs 10 ( 2 weeks early!) and she's now 3 weeks old, I'm already down to 13 stone 11 and that's without any effort or dieting. Please don't worry, I was feeling like you and it's just not worth bothering about it'll all be fine once baby here 🥰😘

Ickiness · 19/03/2021 14:48

Both pregnancies I only put on 12lbs - first time I thought this was because I was really sick , but was the same for the second pregnancy and I wasnt sick once 🤷‍♀️
Also, it’s pregnancy I was 26 , 2nd one I was 43!
First baby was 8lb 5 - 2 weeks late
Second baby was 7lb 14 - on time

I don’t seem to carry much fluid as my bump is always quite small and really hard
