So it's my first and I've had a right ride, personally and physically... Deaths in family, stress at work, every pregnancy symptom under the sun but full on version, i.e. Had to get medication for morning sickness that's practically lashed throughout blah blah blah... I've eaten well... Just too much, made sure I've had meat 2 veg etc, lots of fruit, vitamins but a lot of snacks/comfort food to... I started off at 12.7st...now 15.6, 4 weeks to go.... This is the obviously more weight gained than was recommended for my initial BMI... I don't have diabetes, and self monitor anyway with the same dip sticks the NHS use.
Just wondering if any other mums out there gained more weight than recommended and what your experiences were in terms of baby size, labour etc etc.
Please don't beat me up for being careless, it's been a shit time.

I gained about 15kg. No idea how much that is in stone. I lost it all and then an extra 10kg while breastfeeding and walking to baby groups. It's gradually crept back on though without the baby groups. 😔

Dyra · 19/03/2021 14:55

Oops. Posted too soon. Baby was 7lb 5oz (3.315kg). I had a fair amount of water retention. The night sweats were incredible!

Midlifephoenix · 19/03/2021 14:58

I gained 10kg and my baby weighed 4.5kg. Left hospital weighing less than before I got pregnant.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 19/03/2021 14:59

No idea with the first two, but with the third I put on 4 stone. She was 10lbs 6oz. 2 stone of that was baby weight, 2 stone I've now got to lose.

GreenBalaclava · 19/03/2021 15:04

I started off a similar weight to you OP and gained more! My DC were all around 8lb 10oz.

Starlive23 · 19/03/2021 15:15

I put on about 4 stone with first and she was 9'11 and I've put on 3 stone at least with this one. Give yourself a break OP, most people stack on a bit especially at the end but its no big deal so treat yourself kindly xx

brushlaptop · 19/03/2021 15:20

Yeah I really wouldn't worry about the weight gain. It really doesn't matter how much you gain as long as you lose it and don't keep it on after the pregnancy. I think the danger with pregnancy weight gain comes when people have multiple babies, gain 4 stone each time and just don't lose it, as that's when they get a weight problem.

Babyiskickingmyribs · 19/03/2021 15:21

I started at a bmi of 22 and gained 11kgs (1stone 10?). Baby was 4.2kg (9lbs 5?). A friend gained 30kg, (4stone 10?) and her baby was only 1.9kg (4lbs?) . My baby was born at 42weeks and hers at 37Ish I believe which obviously makes a difference.

NamelessNinja · 19/03/2021 15:25

Try not to stress about it, I think pregnancy weight gain has lots of factors in it and what you eat is only one of them!
My experience from starting approx 9.5/10 stone.
First pregnancy I gained 4 stone and generally ballooned everywhere, lost 2 stone within the first month and then another 3 without any real effort over the rest of the year. Baby weighed 7lb 8
Second pregnancy gained 3 stoneish, lost all weight by 5 months pp and baby weighed 8lb 12. Didn't do anything differently in the pregnancies so no idea why the gain was differentConfused

EasterGuineaPig · 19/03/2021 15:55

I gained 4 stone with my twin pregnancy, which is a lot even for twins. It was mostly fluid and I lost it all by 2 weeks postpartum. You aren’t careless or selfish, pregnancy can be hard mentally as well as physically.

Mummy2O · 19/03/2021 16:01

I gained 4 stone in my first pregnancy (I was permanently hungry) and had a 7 lbs 5 oz baby. I also lost it all fairly quickly afterwards.

Sam042017 · 19/03/2021 16:03

I gained 3 1/2 stone 😨 went from a size 10-12 at 12 stone to 15 1/2 stone and I'm 5ft 9! Baby ended up being 8lb 5 but lost 2 stone within the first week post partum. Now 6 weeks post partum and got just over a stone to lose so not too bad! I ate what I wanted throughout pregnancy

User0ne · 19/03/2021 17:16

39 weeks with dc3 and have gone from 55kg to 72kg(ish) with each pregnancy. Feels like loads but comes off after.

If someone told me it was more than recommended I'd tell them to go fuck themselves.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 19/03/2021 17:47

I was around the same weight as you before I was pregnant OP and I had put on most of my 4 stone gain by the time I was around 25 weeks. I had a lot of water weight. 2 stone was baby.

rhowton · 19/03/2021 17:50

My thyroid went crazy during pregnancy. I went from 10 stone to 16 stone with a 7lbs8oz baby. I'm 12 stone ish now and it's such a struggle to lose weight.

Itsjustaride8w737 · 19/03/2021 17:55

DD: i went from 10 stone to 13. I ate like a pig! DD was 8lb 6oz.

DD2: I was 18stone, lost 2. Haven't really got an appetite, awaiting GTT. Baby due June, hoping she's not huge!

BattyPancake · 19/03/2021 18:49

Gained 4 stone (8.5 to about 12.5), baby was 8lb 14oz at 42 weeks.

Breastfeeding sucked the life out of me and I ended up lighter than I started in about 5 months.

WhoAreYah · 19/03/2021 19:23

I gained 5 bleeding stone... baby was 9 1/2lb Shock

Lost 3 stone in 2 weeks (lots of water retention and baby etc... so 2 stone of fat)

Superscientist · 19/03/2021 20:10

I wish I had gained more in pregnancy. I had bad pregnancy sickness in the first and third trimesters. I gained about a stone baby was 6lb13. In less than 2 weeks I was at my prepregnancy weight. I'm now 7months postpartum and about 17lb lighter than prepregnancy due to depression, a restricted diet (allergy baby), breastfeeding and having a baby that only naps when I'm walking so I do a lot of walking!! My bmi has gone from the middle of healthy to underweight. I'm sure it contributes to my lack of energy.

BattyPancake · 19/03/2021 20:36

@Superscientist bless you Flowers have you been to the GP? Tiredness maybe due to Iron or B12 deficiency, maybe see if taking them helps and gets a blood test to? What is baby allergic to? Xx

BattyPancake · 19/03/2021 20:37

And tiredness in general bringing up a baby obviously xx

I gained around 3.5 stone. I started off at a similar weight to you. My baby is 6 months old and have lost 3 stone of it, but I've not really tried to lose it, it's just been through breastfeeding. Baby was 7 pounds 6 and a half, so hardly massive. Don't be hard on yourself, you have plenty of time to lose the weight afterwards, it sounds like you've had a tough pregnancy.

Superscientist · 19/03/2021 21:37

@BattyPancake thanks, yeah gp knows. I'm taking all required vitamins etc we are awaiting a dietician appointment next month. It looks like she is allergic to dairy, soya, coconut, eggs, tomato, red peppers and fish. We have eliminated aubergine and potatoes as they are in the same family as the tomato and red peppers so its likely she will react to them too and we suspect lentils and other legumes so we are limiting them too!
Her main symptoms are screaming (gastro discomfort we assume) and a rash on her face so she's not the best sleeper!

Sceptre86 · 19/03/2021 21:44

I was 9 stone when I fell pregnant with dd and 10stone when she was born. She was 5lb10oz. With ds I was 13.5stone at the beginning and 15 stone at the end of the pregnancy. Ds was born at 40 weeks weighing 8lb 10oz. This time I started off at 13.5 stone again and am at the same weight at 16 weeks. I am exercising in this pregnancy whereas I have never done in previous pregnancies, not for weight loss but just to help with oedema which is a real issue in the last trimester for me. Dont beat yourself up, you can deal with weight loss when you are ready after the birth, I will be joining you.
