Was your second baby heavier than your first?

My first was a tiny baby so I've bought tiny baby clothes and first size clothes. But my notes predict this baby will be a bit heavier. Luckily I've only bought 3 sleep suits and a pack of vests. It's just about what to take to the hospital. The less I take the less I have to carry with me...last time...even though I packed my bags... hubby didn't know where everything was and obviously after Labour I just gave up...

Yes
7lbs 8oz
9lbs 3oz
9lbs 13oz

rhowton · 18/12/2020 13:14

My DD was predicted to be huge but was 6lbs12. She dropped to 6lbs4 and was in tiny baby for 1 month. Newborn for 2 month and up to a month. She wasn't in 0-3 until she was almost 4 months. Second baby was predicted to be over 10lbs but was 7lbs10 and went straight in to newborn and some up to a month. She's 19 months now snd bypassed wearing 12-18 months and wears 18-24 and 2-3 clothes as I'm lazy and couldn't be bothered to put my DD1 clothes away.

Soubriquet · 18/12/2020 13:14

No!

He was on track to be heavier compared to his sister who was 5lb 13oz, but for some reason he suddenly stopped growing and regular scans showed no improvement.

He was finally born at 5lb 4oz

I had to buy preemie clothing and nappies because even tiny baby swamped him

TisTheSeasonToEatLots · 18/12/2020 13:15

My first was 6lb 13 and second 8lb 3, first was born at 39+1 and second 39 weeks exactly so they’d been baked for the same amount of time. First was a girl though and I think they tend to weight slightly less. Second child I only packed newborn clothes and they fitted just, he was out of them in about a week. I’m expecting my 3rd now and will still go for newborn size. I’d probably pack just newborn if I was you. Unless there’s a reason you think you’ll be stuck in hospital (or give birth early), I was home after 5 hours with my second.

ChristmasTreeFairy5000 · 18/12/2020 13:15

Not, but yes.

I had DS1 at 41 weeks weighing 9lbs 1.

I had DS2 at 38 weeks weighing 8lbs 5.

If DS2 had gone full term or overdue like this brother, he would have been almost 10lbs I reckon!

ilovethecold · 18/12/2020 13:16

Son 1 37 weeks 7lb 4
Son 2 40 +3 9lb 9

PinGwyn · 18/12/2020 13:16

Yes, but not by much. There was a huge difference in length though which meant that lots of the tiny stuff we had before swamped #2 where they'd been stretched for #1!

#1 - 6lbs 15.5oz and 54cm.
#2 - 7lbs 2oz and 47cm.

TimeToPullMyHairOut · 18/12/2020 13:17

First was 7lb10 and 3 days late
Second was 7lb3 and 12 days late.
So my second was later and smaller! Both same gender

Inmyownlittlecorner · 18/12/2020 13:17

Both were exactly the same weight & length. Also both 2 weeks overdue!

grey12 · 18/12/2020 13:18

My first 2 DDs had 3 grams difference!! Yes, a tiny pack of sugar that you put on coffee has usually 5 grams Grin DD3 was smaller tough.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 18/12/2020 13:18

First 8lbs 15oz
Second 11lbs 3oz
Third 8lbs

Mammyloveswine · 18/12/2020 13:19

My first was 8.5 pounds (2 days past due date)... second was 7 pound 12 born on his due date! He seemed tiny even tho he wasn't really!

daisypond · 18/12/2020 13:22

No. First was 7lb 12.
Second was 5lb 6.

DennisTMenace · 18/12/2020 13:22

No, second was in for longer and came out smaller. They were both above average though so only had handful of new baby clothes. Mainly 0-3.

HorsesDogsNails · 18/12/2020 13:25

First born DS was 8lb 7oz born at 39 weeks
Second born DD was 6lb 13oz born at 39 + 3 weeks

I was expecting her to be 9lb, she was a tiny dot!!

PolarnOPirate · 18/12/2020 13:25

Nope. I’d just take outfits in each size and then DH can bring more once you know how big the baby is. Freezer bag of newborn outfits, freezer bag of 0-3 outfits etc. Nice and organised!

Eileen101 · 18/12/2020 13:26

No, DC1 was 8lbs 8 at 40+5, DC2 was predicted at a growth scan at 36 weeks to be pretty much the same give or take 100g. DC2 was born at 39+6 at 7lbs 5, so considerably lighter.

@heaviestdirtyestsoul 11lbs 3???

NoParticularPattern · 18/12/2020 13:28

No. First was 8lb 15oz and second was 8lb 8oz. Second was predicted to be “approximately 10lb” from the scan I had the day before I had him. I kid you not the first words out of my mouth when I had him passed to me were “is that it?!”

Marmite27 · 18/12/2020 13:28

1st 6lb 13oz at 38 weeks.
2nd 6lb 11oz at 35 weeks.

Technically no, but she probably would have if she’d gone to term / 38 weeks like her sib. DC2 was a section due to feotal anaemia so nothing that would affect weight.

Queenbee95 · 18/12/2020 13:29

Yes. My first son was 6lb 6oz born at 36+4 weeks. Second son was 7lb 13oz born at 39+6

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 18/12/2020 13:30

7.5lb 5 days late. Then 8lb on due date.
First baby lost loads of weight. But was very long (and still is). Second has always been more solid, but shorter. So lighter baby needed bigger clothes than the heavier one.
Both used the up to 10lb size for about 2 months.

Fruggalo · 18/12/2020 13:30

No. Mine were 8lb 3, 7lb 3, 7 lb 10. First was likely two weeks late, others v close to due date.

HippyChickMama · 18/12/2020 13:32

Dc1 (ds) born at 42 weeks: 7lb 10.5oz
Dc2 (dd) born at 40+3: 8lb 8.5oz

Both predicted by fundal height and growth scans to be well over 9lb

Sertchgi123 · 18/12/2020 13:33
  1. 8lbs 10oz
  2. 8lbs 4oz
  3. 9lbs 1oz
yikesanotherbooboo · 18/12/2020 13:35

8lb 3oz born into due date
6lb 12 oz born into due date
8lb 3 oz born at 38 weeks
