First time mamas in third trimester?

mammagmac · 27/07/2020 14:22

Hey,

I just wanted to see how any other first time mums are getting on in their third trimester? I just find it interesting to hear how people are and not feel like the only pregnant woman in the world 😂 I’m stuck in the horrendous Leicester lockdown, so anything to connect with people!!!

I’m 29 weeks today, definitely more clumsy and getting tired now. How’s everyone else?

Xxx

Thank you @Pwd1 @MrsN2121 it's good that you both have the option to leave to bring more stuff in, we don't have that option as yet so no visitors or a dash to the car to get more things. I've just had two close friends have babies and be I'm for 5 days with long inductions so I'm panicking that we don't have enough of everything. I don't know how people are managing with smaller carry on bags haha x

mammagmac · 29/07/2020 09:40

I’m hoping for a home birth but have got a large duffel bag to be ready just in case anything changes. Really hoping I don’t need it!! I’m so thankful they’re allowing homebirths where I live as I don’t fancy the possibility of days in hospital!!

I was undecided about a home birth with it being my first but then the option was taken away anyway, but now I'm packing it would have been nice to just be at home with everything you need to hand @mammagmac x

Superscientist · 29/07/2020 10:46

I have a overnight - weekend bag for me, the rucksack I will be using as a changing bag for baby and OH and a tote bag for food which should fit in one of the other bags afterwards. I decided to go for 3 smaller options that I knew I could carry by myself - the weekend bag is on wheels rather than a bigger bag that I would need help with - no wheels and only over one shoulder. I'm likely to be in for 3 days so have more outfits for me and baby prepared.

BabyB19 · 29/07/2020 11:23

Thanks @Superscientist
I'm wary I don't want to highjack the post but would anyone be interested in sharing lists?

mammagmac · 29/07/2020 11:49

@BabyB19 not hijacking at all!! This is why I started this thread - for other people in the same boat to connect.
List away 😄 x

For me :
Slippers, thin dressing gown I don't mind getting stained, night shirt for labour and nursing nightie for afterwards, 2 x t shirts and leggings, socks and knickers that have seen better days, some reusable csp and a pack of disposals (disposables are in the baby bag). My medication, ear plugs, eye mask, lipbalm, toiletries, a couple of options for my hair - Alice band type thing, bobbles and spiral hair fasteners (I have waist length hair so wanted several options), an electric fan, USB plug plus charging cables for my phone, tablet and bluetooth speaker. Puzzle books and pen. A dark face cloth and towel

For baby: a pack of nappies, a pack of cotton wool pleats, reusable wipes, 5-6 vests + sleepsuits, a hat and cardigan.

For OH sleep t shirt, good t shirt change of boxers and some deodorant and a face cloth

I think that is it

mammagmac · 29/07/2020 12:09

I suddenly feel so disorganised 😭 I know I’ve got 11 weeks to go but I feel literally so unprepared 😂
We need to paint his blooming room!!!

BabyB19 · 29/07/2020 13:07

Yours is much more streamlined than mine @Superscientist but now I'm struggling to know what to part with haha.
@mammagmac get yourself a list done and do what you can now before your too knackered! 😭🤣 the baby will be in with you for a while anyway won't be so room painting isn't urgent is it x

Sairafina · 29/07/2020 13:11

I am on the cusp of the third trimester so have been reading of the joys to come!
Calf cramps have been a new unwanted symptom this week, anyone else been suffering? I'm supposed to be going to the gym this morning but can barely walk as the muscle is so sore afterwards!
Those lists are great - will definitely be pinching them, especially the ear plugs and eye mask!

MrsN2121 · 29/07/2020 13:22

@babyb19 just a couple of suggestions you could leave off from your list if you're struggling for space. The hospital will give you towels to use, if baby is in sleepsuits you won't need socks and gloves if it's got the fold over mitts on. Might not give you much room but every bit helps!

BabyB19 · 29/07/2020 13:26

Thanks @MrsN2121 I've done sandwich bags with a full outfit/nappy etc so if I am separated at any point and OH has to dress baby then he won't be putting mismatched stuff on, so I've only put gloves/socks in ones that need them. I've been told mixed things on towels and blankets I'm not sure if they usually provide them but now aren't due to Covid maybe?

Your lists both look pretty similar to mine, except I'd forgotten lipbalm! Have now added to the list. I've separated the babys clothes into sizes in sandwich bags and labelled them so that it's easier to find the right size once hes born. How many maternity pads is everyone taking? I've packed 20 and am hoping that will be enough but have extra at home that partner can bring if the visiting rules stay the same

mammagmac · 29/07/2020 13:52

I’m definitely going to pack a bag just in case homebirthing doesn’t go to plan - these lists are all so organised!
And that way at least everything I’ll need during that time will all be in one place anyway!

Random question - do any of your babies have a favourite position? My little boy currently loves squishing up to my right hand side and it feels so weird 🤢

@BabyB19 so true about the room, I’ve got ages!

mammagmac · 29/07/2020 13:53

@Sairafina welcome to third trimester! I don’t get much cramp in the day but it does wake me in the night occasionally!

OP posts:
BabyB19 · 29/07/2020 13:59

@Pwd1 I've packed 20 as well and I'm hoping to god I don't require more than that 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️ apparently your mouth goes dead try with all the breathing etc (I'm FTM so no idea) so lip balm/boiled sweets etc can be handy!
It won't harm to have a bag ready to go just incase will it @mammagmac it's one less thing to worry about and can be unpacked in no time if not required 👍🏼 x

BabyB19 · 29/07/2020 14:00

Mine has been left hand side since about 25 weeks ana is now FIRMLY engaged and giving me grief further down 🤦🏽‍♀️🤣

Pwd1 · 29/07/2020 14:11

Mine seems to be all over, hes tends to have either his feet or his bum lodged in my ribs at either side but it varies from day to day. Hes head down, but was no where near engaged at the last appointment. Hopefully hes moved down a bit at the appointment tomorrow!

mammagmac · 29/07/2020 14:25

Ah this is all so exciting! Promise me ladies you’ll share when baba’s here! (If you can remember in your sleep deprived postpartum state 😂)

OP posts:
Superscientist · 29/07/2020 14:43

I have 14 csp 5 maternity sized ones and 9 heavy period ones plus whatever a standard pack size of disposables. Knowing I could be in for 3 days I've erred on the side of caution and added more.

I've just remembered I also have nursing bra and breast pads in my bag (I will be wearing a 2nd) and plan on going in in my going home outfit. I also have muslin cloths and a swaddle blanket for baby.

I have folded a vest inside each of the sleep suits so each is a complete outfit too.

Mine loves to be on my right hand side, I get quite an asymmetric bump and I have to lie on my left to drop her more into the middle otherwise it gets a bit uncomfortable! She also likes to move higher over the course of the day so by 5 when I'm trying to finish work she is firmly under my ribs. I would be wishing for her to drop but that doesn't sound any more comfortable! Since reaching 37 weeks there are fewer times of the day when she is in a comfortable position!

Margo34 · 29/07/2020 14:59

Oh gosh you all sound so organised and making me feel really panicked now!

We have barely enough baby clothes for 2 days (need to buy some ASAP!), haven't got a pushchair/pram, cot, changing mat, bouncer or any other baby kit, haven't packed a hospital bag yet, just about to start building works to repair damp in baby's room before we can decorate, and need to have a massive clear out at home too. 🙈🙈
Add to the mix that DH has just recently heard his job is on the line, my work contract ends end of August too so we'll likely both be unemployed just in time for baby to arrive 😵

Luckily I'm already on holiday until mat leave/SMP starts 1st Sept so I'm all guns blazing to get organised. DH has his focus elsewhere so project prep the house and prep for baby is all on me. Oh the stress!!!!

32w and exhausted!!!

Can anyone share what's in their baby clothing warderobe? Like how many vests, baby grows and sleepsuits - and how many of each size have you gone for?!

mammagmac · 29/07/2020 15:13

I second @Margo34 I have no idea what clothes to start with!!

And goodness that all sounds exhausting - I hope things don’t get too stressful for you and that DH job stays secure!

OP posts:
Superscientist · 29/07/2020 15:22

I didn't pack my bag till 34 weeks there's still time to get organised!

We have 12 vests and 5 sleepsuits in first size then loads of 0-3 month clothes ~20 short sleeved vests and some sleepsuits as a colleague posted me his hand me downs. We will probably want more sleepsuits and some long sleeved vests but hopefully we have enough to get through the initial period. We are doing cloth nappies so will be doing a wash every other day.

I'm sorry to hear your partners job is on the line @Margo34 it is such a stressful and uncertain time we are in. We had a clear out of all of our storage cupboards a few months ago - tackling a different one each weekend and improving the storage /shelving options as we did so it really helped us gather control and we have gained lots of space! Baby stuff has fallen more on my shoulders too though!
