No Boys Names! Starting to Panic...

Hi everyone,

Another name thread I'm afraid! I am 35 weeks pregnant and although I have a few girls names in mind, I am really struggling with boys names. I want something fairly unusual (not in the top 50ish) but not too 'out there'...

My initial choice was Seth - but DP isn't keen (says is sounds like a sssnake sound?).

Other possibilities are:

Montgomery (Monty)
Ivo (too bourgeois?)
Abraham (Abe, Abie)
Sonny
Ned
Clement (Clem)?
Seamus

Top choices for girls are:

Violet (Lettie)
Meredith (Edie)

I am worried at the lack of Wow factor for the boys. Is this necessary, or do you just end up completely loving the name any way?

Please help. Suggestions welcome; I am looking for suggestions rather than opinions, as I know that these names won't be to everyone's taste (puts fingers in ears and sings loudly).

Thanks in advance,

BVx

PregnantGrrrl · 11/09/2007 13:09

don't like any of them really, i'm afraid.

Monty reminds me of Uncle Monty in Withnail and I...'I must have you, even if it is by burglary!'

I like Seth though. DH vetoed that one for us aswell.

pgTips04 · 11/09/2007 13:11

LaDiDaDi · 11/09/2007 13:14

I really like your boy's names other than Clement.

Other ideas are:
Benedict
Evan
Gregory
Morris
Percy
Jan/Yan
Stanley
Solomon (Sol)
Ted
Theo

bobsmum · 11/09/2007 13:17

Roderick's nice IMO - went to school with a couple of Rodericks who chose to be Roddy.

Niecie · 11/09/2007 13:18

If you like Ned, what about Jed instead (oh that rhymes).

Benedict -I wanted it but DH didn't feel brave enough
Christian
Gabriel
Theo

Ivo is the best of your bunch.

Niecie · 11/09/2007 13:19

My DS is a Monty - he remained nameless for 3 days as I was adamant I wanted Jasper and my DH wanted Oliver - in the end we went for Monty (Montgomery on his birth certificate) as I LOVED the meaning of the name "mountain hunter"....still wasn't madly in love with the name but after 15months now I absolutely adore it - he has definately grown into it!

OItherwise how about

Jasper
Edgar
Maximus
Finton

I always struggled on boys names!

nailpolish · 11/09/2007 13:28

i quite like retro names like Kevin, David and Paul

also foreign names like Dimitri

Clary · 11/09/2007 13:35

Np not Kevin!

There's one in DD's year (she's 6) and it always raises a smile, sorry but it's a name from 35 yrs ago which is not goo (90 yrs ago is fine, y'understand). think the parents are american.

DCM I know a jasper and a Monty who are brothers. Their other brother is Finn. That's getting more popular tho (if that bothers you).

deuxcheekymonkeys · 11/09/2007 13:38

Just as well Im not having any more kids then!!!!

JeremyVile · 11/09/2007 13:40

I love Sacha for a boy - it needs to be reclaimed from its current state as a crappy girl name and resurrected as a gorgeous boy name.

CatIsSleepy · 11/09/2007 13:43

dh really liked Olaf (I vetoed it)
I liked Noah (dh vetoed it)
