No Boys Names! Starting to Panic...

Hi everyone,

Another name thread I'm afraid! I am 35 weeks pregnant and although I have a few girls names in mind, I am really struggling with boys names. I want something fairly unusual (not in the top 50ish) but not too 'out there'...

My initial choice was Seth - but DP isn't keen (says is sounds like a sssnake sound?).

Other possibilities are:

Montgomery (Monty)
Ivo (too bourgeois?)
Abraham (Abe, Abie)
Sonny
Ned
Clement (Clem)?
Seamus

Top choices for girls are:

Violet (Lettie)
Meredith (Edie)

I am worried at the lack of Wow factor for the boys. Is this necessary, or do you just end up completely loving the name any way?

Please help. Suggestions welcome; I am looking for suggestions rather than opinions, as I know that these names won't be to everyone's taste (puts fingers in ears and sings loudly).

Thanks in advance,

BVx

Wilfred? Then you can have Will, Wilf or Fred/Freddie.

I hate Seth. I always think they will go through life being asked questions about their sibling dying.

there were lots of Kevins in my class ast school (30 yrs ago) and they were all nice
i like it!

kittylouise · 11/09/2007 14:17

I think Kevin is a bit too retro, iyswim!

All boys names with a v in are a bit dodgy in my opinion: Dave, Kev, Neville, Vince, Vernon, Mervin, Melvyn. All conjure up 80's wideboys in a Ford Capri, to me.

Sorry, off subject. But am really starting to warm to Monty!!

Veryveryworried · 11/09/2007 14:20

Darius

Clary · 11/09/2007 14:27

yes np that's the point.

Similarly Joanne, Karen, Nicola, all nice names, are not very popular these days for babies.

BabyValentine · 11/09/2007 14:30

Okay, okay - Ned is now out of the equation.

My family laughed at Ivo (I wish I'd kept it to myself).

And Monty does not sound good in a Geordie accent (we live in the NE).

And Seamus could be shortened to Shay (which could sound a little bit chav; no offence intended).

What about Linus? Or is that wet?

not keen on any of them, sorry.

No to Linus too

deuxcheekymonkeys · 11/09/2007 14:38

BV - well you could always spell it the scottish way and call him Monts!

Then again, Im biased!!!

Twinkie1 · 11/09/2007 14:41

Wet - isn't he the sad little boy from Snoopy??

sparklygothkat · 11/09/2007 14:42

I am 32 weeks pregnant with a boy and have no name yet poor DS2 will be called baby at this rate

Miaou · 11/09/2007 14:58

Hiya sparkly - 32 weeks!! Wow! This is further in than you got with some of your pgs iirc? Fantastic.

Miaou · 11/09/2007 15:00

I once knew a boy called Spike - wouldn't have been my choice but it suited him! I would say that fits in with your criteria.

From your list, I like Ned, Clem and Ivo (will always be called Ivor though!!)

Tinker · 11/09/2007 15:05

I like Abe, that's quite cool

Jesse was our boy choice

Put off Sonny by a boy called that who said to my eldest "your (ie MY) house is horrible"

nailpolish · 11/09/2007 15:08

Tiger is cool

Meeely2 · 11/09/2007 15:10

MrsPuddleduck · 11/09/2007 15:19

DS1 has a really sweet little friend with this name which I quite like

(although wonder whether he has a brother called Jake and sisters called Bella and Fiz!)

izzybiz · 11/09/2007 15:30

I love the suggestion made of Laurie - he was the wonderful boy I was in love with in Little Women (married Amy but loved Jo). what about Renny? I taught a real free spirit called Renny years ago, an interesting name created an interesting person

BabyValentine · 12/09/2007 09:58

Thanks for all the suggestions - keep them coming, please.

I do like Laurie, that can be added to the list. Good suggestion from Willhouse, but unfortunately the cat is already called Milo or I might be tempted).

I like Alfie.
The only boys' names DP & I have agreed on, though, are Thomas & William.

However, DP shouted out 'Arthur' in his sleep last night . Here's hoping we have a girl...
