My sisters just phoned me and said (30 wks) that she thinks she's wet herself. We know that her waters have possibly broken and I'm taking her to the hospital in an hour. My question is this. The midwives have told her that if the waters have broken they could give her antibiotics to delay labour for a few days. NOW the exact same thing happened to me and after 24hrs they said they shouldn't have been delaying labour because of the risk of infection after the waters breaking. I want to go into the hospital knowing my facts so do any of you have any experience of this?

ok x let me know how you get on ((((((((2babesmum))))))))))

if it is her hndwaters, then that is different to rupture of membranes..teh waters replenish and the leak will seal.....sounds like they are doing the right things and taking all precuationary measures......try no to worry...no contractions is good..10 weeks is early for baby to come....so as long as they monitor for infection and keep a close eye, hopefully no reason things will take a turn for the worst

my waters went at 29 weeks, had steroids and was on antibiotics. started to feel unwell 3 days later. had a scan and baby wasn't moving but heart was still beating away, then went into labour. she was bottom first and they were going to let me deliver but at last minute changed their minds and i had an emergency cs.

dd2 was big for her gestation. she was 3lb2. spent 10 weeks in there. she came home on ebm but a few weeks later she switched to full bf. she's now 11 months old, weighs 17lb2 and has just started crawling

hope your sister holds on for another 8 weeks. we have a friend whos waters went at 24 weeks and she went into labour at 36 weeks. it all depends on the individual.

kreamkrackers · 15/06/2007 23:55

also, when my waters went i was told they'd induce me at 34 weeks if i hadn't gone into labour by then as the risk of infection/development was too high. but since about sept that rule has changed (well in that hospital it has) they now let you go full term but not over.

My waters broke at 30 weeks. I was admitted to hospital and started on antibiotics and the baby monitored twice daily. A scan at the time predicted she was appprox 4lb 3oz and they told me that as long a s she continued to grow they would allow her to stay inside. I continued to leak fluid in dribs and drabs. A scan at 32 weeks showed that she had not grown and they planned on inducing me but I went into spontaneous labour at 32+4 weeks. I had the steroid injections. She is now a very healthy 12 year old!

twoplusone · 16/06/2007 09:28

I had suspected SPROM..with my first pg.. they reckon before 28weeks as at that scan she had dolicopholous due to lack of waters and pressure.. the deepest pool was 1cm. I never contracted or anything in the end they delivered her by c-section at 36weeks due to other probs too, but I wasnt allowed to labour anyway with her..

She is now a perfectley healthy 10 year old.

Good lUck to your sister..

twoplusone · 16/06/2007 09:30

Sorry ment to add but looking back and as new research has come to date, I think it was more of I carried very little fluid, as she also had IUGR and placenta started to show signs of failing from 30weeks.. Than SPROM

janemw · 16/06/2007 09:37

My hindwaters went with ds1 at around 33 weeks, re-sealed themselves and I was given a scan to check there was still enough fluid around the baby. Maybe you should ask for the scan if you are still worried. Ds1 was born 39 weeks.

Ok UPDATE. I'm paniking! shes had a show this morning . They've said theres a 90% chance she'll have it within a couple of days. Phoned my mum! She's paniking too So anyway I'm on the ready with car keys etc, I'd love to be in hospital with her but exams next week mean I have to have my head in the books. Got the mobile and land line on my desk ready though.

fransmom · 17/06/2007 23:09

any news.............?

2babesmum · 18/06/2007 01:23

Sorry my internet been playing up! Well, she was going to go for a scan on sat but they said the scan room was closed! So they're doing that on monday. She's still loosing water etc so I have a feeling she'll be there longer than she hoped for. Everything seems fine though, She's 31 weeks on monday - yey! So thats good news. Just a waiting game now. They've now said thet're inducing her at 36 weeks so the baby will be here a month earlier than anticipated - time for me to spend with him though whilst the kids are still at school!Mums back from Spain1 everyone was right - she did come back as soon as she knew!

i can't believe they're doing that, she needs to make a complaint. i'm being really serious here, on my scan they had to scan me for 30 minutes as dd2 didn't move in that time but her heart was beating away. if i didn't go into labour that night they would have got her out the next day anyways because i scored 2 on my scan. they need to find out how much fluid is left as well, i'm really shocked that they've not scanned her.

2babesmum · 18/06/2007 22:40

I know, it is really frustrating me but I can't do anything. You would think she'd be scanned asap, but its been 4 DAYS and they haven't bothered. Shes loosing water all the time and has had several shows.

2babesmum · 19/06/2007 09:33

OP posts:
kreamkrackers · 19/06/2007 14:53

they can't do that. make a complaint. can she change hospitals?

2babesmum · 19/06/2007 18:13

He's here She went into labour at 2.30 and he was born by 4.30! 3lb 3oz of little boy. He needs help with his breathing but should be breathing on his own in a few days. I managed to get to the hospital in 10 mins - shot across town swearing at everyone as I went! Unfortunately his daddy was 10 mins late, so that's a bit gutting but mother and baby are doing well . I will download a pic when I figure out how! Thanks all of you for your help. I promise to get that pic sorted!

Frizbe · 19/06/2007 21:56
