I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Waving hello to the newbies
Sorry you are here but nice to meet you Smile

Last week at work this week, sickness settling down again. Pesky hormones, was an emotional wreck at the weekend and am beyond tired this week.
Fed my 4yr old sandwiches and a nectarines for tea Blush

Still got just over 7 weeks till DD but bump is very low already, getting in the way when I walk up the stairs Grin

LucindaE · 16/08/2018 14:25

Foodylicious Hurray for last week at work. Smile
I am sure the LO enjoyed that meal.
How is everyone doing today?

Lucybex · 16/08/2018 15:24

Foodylicious only 7 weeks to go! Exciting!

I'm feeling a bit flat today like no one understands. Still in hospital and feel utterly wiped out. Only had visit from DH and i feel like everyone else thinks because I wanted to be pregnant this is kind of my doing. Just feels a bit lonely and worried about next few months. Even had one person say 'well you did do this to yourself!'
They say I can go home tomorrow because my bloods have low levels of potassium and iron which baby needs so still need more fluids. I'm worried about how little bean is doing in there too. Basically overthinking as there's nothing else to do in hospital!!
Maybe it's hormones too!

Olivecake · 16/08/2018 15:45

Lucybex I can’t believe someone would say that to you!! How rude! This is not your fault and hyperemesis is not just your average pregnancy symptom to be expected like a little bit of nausea. Have they offered you any kind of check up on the baby? Last time I was in hospital for fluids they scanned me to check on it which was reassuring.

Congrats on your last week at work Foodylicious - hope it goes smoothly and you can soon put your feet up and relax a bit in preparation for the new arrival!

Lucybex · 16/08/2018 16:20

Thanks olivecake I was pretty shocked too! Coming from a friend with a baby as well! No scan but I had an early one only last Friday and all was fine then.
How many times have you been in hospital with it?

eallison88 · 16/08/2018 16:26

Hi all, looking for a bit of advice. My HG pregnancy is 3 at the end of September. (It was a horrendous pregnancy, ondansetron from week 7 to week 41, the day I gave birth.). I've finally got my head round another baby.

Has anyone ever had any success getting pre-emptive antiemetics? All the research I've done suggest it's the best thing to do, but the actual studies into it are small and not massively conclusive, so I'm not sure how persuasive they'll be with GP. I have already spoken to GP about this and she referred me to a pre-conception clinic. Unfortunately I received that apt today, 23rd Oct. It took 2 years to conceive last time, I don't want to add 2 months onto it. So I've made an apt with GP tomorrow, admin hoping to come out of it with prescription for cyclizine. And an understanding that if I do happen to get pregnant before that apt, that I will get an urgent referral to a consultant to plan my care.

Am I being gung ho and reckless? Should I just wait the extra 2 months?

Any successful care plans for subsequent pregnancies?!

Lucybex · 16/08/2018 16:59

Hi eallison, I can't help you as this is my first, all I will say though is the doctor here in London hospital told me that they will help me plan the second pregnancy as once you have it this bad likely to get it again and it seemed a given they would offer preemptive care and anti sickness, but I was not listening too much as focusing on number one first!
Good luck with gp sounds like a good plan x

Foodylicious · 16/08/2018 17:28

Hi eallison88
I think a few have had success with getting a pre-emptive prescription
But just to add you can buy it over the counter as Avomine for travel sickness I think?

Foodylicious · 16/08/2018 17:30

Ignore me eallison88 Avomine is Promethazine, which I have been on. It's often used instead of cyclizine.

3girlmama · 16/08/2018 17:34

I wish I'd seen this support thread when I was going through hyperemeis
I have a13 week old dd and from week 6-birth o threw up day and night
Had hospital admissions, was on drops
Had tablets galore to take on a regular basis every day
I lost 28lb in 2 months
My baby was small for dates on scans but caught up at the end: norm 39+2 at 6lb9oz
It's the worst Ive felt! Horrible and draining and seeming endless. I even pulled a muscle in the side and was admitted with suspected appendicitis as the pain was so bad!!

Ttc2017 · 16/08/2018 17:43

My friend said the same thing to she said I chose to be in this situation and shouldn't moan so much I wanted to be pregnant etc.. So annoying as we didn't choose hg I didn't even know what it was till this pregnancy..

I
Interested to hear how you get on with preemptive care for next pregnancy as although this will be my last as couldn't go through it again I do strongly believe more should be done to support women I have to say pregnancy sickness support are very good and full of knowledge and the lady who set it up is clearly working really hard to raise awareness and treatment Options

Had my dating scan today putting me at 13 weeks really should be feeling better by now shouldn't I surely?! Still not got this energy you are meant to get in second trimester and still getting sick seems way worse in afternoon and through to evening and night x

eallison88 · 16/08/2018 19:06

ttc2017 I believed I was totally don't after my son. It's only the last 6 months that I've been open to it.

lucybex as far as I'm aware, that's what I've been referred to, a consultant to plan my pregnancy and care plan. I just feel that a 3 month wait (from referral) is too long when my history suggests a long time til conception anyway. However, I feel sure that if we decided to stop with the pill today, I'm guaranteed to catch first time and I'll be unprepared and screwed! We've been working on healthy weight gain, and I'm about to start taking pregnancy bits with added b12.

Lucybex · 16/08/2018 20:10

Really helpful to hear TTC2017 and I really hope you feel better today. Doc told me that HG sufferers start second trimester at 14 weeks. That's obviously rubbish but a gentle way of trying to manage expectations! I hope it settles soon and scan was still lovely.

3girlmama I'm so sorry to hear that , what an absolute trooper you are!

Eallison88 if it takes a while to concieve and a month or two off the pill for hormones to settle might be worth coming off pill now anyway, use comdoms if you really want to wait or go and be super demanding to your GP to get it brought forward perhaps?

Anyone got any alternative to a plain jacket potato? Seems to be all I can eat and keep down but so boring!! I also figure if I'm thinking that then I must be feeling better as even the thought of a cracker made me throw up a few days ago Confused

eallison88 · 17/08/2018 10:09

Had a really positive apt with GP this morn. She's given me a prescription for cyclizine to take as soon as I have a positive test. Only a weeks worth, but I'll be able to get an apt and get more as soon as I find out I'm pregnant.

Hope everyone a good night's sleep.

Foodylicious · 17/08/2018 18:37

Finished work today Grin
Bloody good thing because I have been knackered this week and baby is making moving around pretty uncomfortable already!

Lucybex · 17/08/2018 19:12

Congratulations foodylicious, hope you get some brief well deserved rest!

great news eallison88 and good luck!

Got discharged from hospital just now, on leaving the nurse showed me a card from one woman who was admitted 13 times! Put it in perspective... Fingers crossed!

LucindaE · 17/08/2018 19:31

eallison88 Welcome back. I remember you well. LO 3 already? How time does pass! That sounds a sensible idea and I am glad the doctor was helpful. I suppose on starting ttc, it is hard to know what to do if there was no physical reason for the delay in conception! As you say, sods law you'd conceive at once. But if the doctor says that you'll get an emergency appointment if you do, that's not so bad....
3girlmama I am sorry you didn't find us. 'A problem shared...' (or in this case, a scourge). I am glad all is well with you and baby. My goodness, that is a quick and sudden weight loss.
Lucybex I too, can't believe in the rudeness of that friend. I am shocked that Ttc also had such a remark made. As everyone says, most women haven't even heard of Hyperemesis until they get it - how were you supposed to know you would be one of the Chosen Few?! I wonder if these friends actually understand its severity. I heard of a nurse telling someone on a drip, 'In my day we got on with it'...
Babies do well, for all the mother's dismal diet. They act as parasites, taking all the goodness. On baked potatoes, butter can be OK. I used to risk baked beans (being sweet) sometimes, but they are not nice to have reappear. Shock
Ttc Most people get a lot of relief somewhere between weeks 14 and 21. Even the unlucky ones who suffer throughout or have it come back in the third tri are very rarely as ill as in that first tri. Take heart.
Did someone mention headaches? It is very hard to distinguish between the hormonal bad headaches or migraines one gets in this, and the dehydration headaches at times. Both are miserable.
Waves to Foodylicious Olivecake and everyone.

lucybex some people really don’t think before they speak. You might want to be pregnant but no one asks for the hg and in fact a lot of people might decide not to if they knew how ill they are going to be.
foodylicious congrats on finishing work. That must be such a relief for you. Not long to go now.
I got my csection date the other day. I’m hoping baby might come just before so I can try for a vaginal birth but as the csection is at 39 weeks that doesn’t seem likely. I can’t wait but I’m very nervous and worried how my little boy will cope when the baby is here. He’s only little himself.

Lucybex · 17/08/2018 20:51

Thanks lucindae, all of that is really helpful and good to hear. It's great to be here! Home from hospital and actually hungry.. but mindful to not listen to it too much in case I regret it later!! The journey home wasn't much fun!

Hotchocolate86 that's exciting- how old is your little boy? I work in early years there is a great article on the baby centre about introducing a new baby to your first... I'll have a look and post the link if you like!

Hotchocolate86 · 17/08/2018 21:00

Oh that would be great please lucybex. He has not long turned 2. He knows there’s a baby in my tummy but I don’t think he understands much else about it.

Mustang27 · 17/08/2018 21:02

3girl that happened to me in my first pregnancy with the pulled muscle it is horrible. I'm sorry you suffered without the thread it was a life saver for me second time round.

LucindaE · 18/08/2018 12:25

I've got a bad migraine with vomiting and diarrhoea - coming out both ends, so just hoping everyone is a bit better today, glad Lucybex has been released and staggering back to bed.

OP posts:
Hotchocolate86 · 18/08/2018 12:33
