I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Didn't come here - can I be self absorbed with you?!?

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 20/01/2018 17:07

Yes of course Peaches!

Natsku · 20/01/2018 17:09

I'm the opposite peaches I feel too bloody hot all the time. Hope your DH's surgery goes well and DD's fever goes away.

Survived the party but my legs and hips/pelvis are in agony now from standing and walking about. But I think everyone had fun and DD seems very happy.

Ah right Mustang couldn't remember when the first wonder week was.

Don't suffer too long Didn't if you can't keep fluids down, go get fluids at the hospital if you think you're getting dehydrated or feel really bad.

Hope everything looks ok with the scan when you get it Orange

It is lovely enjoying food isn't it Just? I went out for lunch yesterday as OH got a free lunch at a new restaurant as he did the electrics there and it was sooo delicious.

butterfly86 · 20/01/2018 21:57

Evening ladies, can I join? Nobody has actually said the word hyperemesis but if it's not that I do have pretty bad sickness.. from Sunday to Wednesday I kept barely anything down so by the time I had my midwife appointment on Wednesday I had 3+ ketones. Was admitted for fluids and anti emetics which made me feel much better, I was already taking prochlorperazine which out of hours prescribed but have also been given cyclizine. I still feel very nauseous and vomiting a couple of times a day although it is better than it was. Is this what I should expect? I suppose I can't expect to be completely cured! Surviving mainly on toast!

Endora44 · 21/01/2018 08:52

natsku so glad the bday went well and its over!

thingy Flowers congrats on the new baby, hope your HG journey is well and truly over.

yesterday was absolutely awful. couldn't keep anything down, not even my ondansetron, which I hate to waste, and yet vomited up repeatedly. also had horrendous constipation (sorry, TMI) from the ondansetron I'm sure, must go get something more effective than glycerin to deal with it. I'm already 10 weeks, thank goodness in the double digits, but still so long to go, don't know how to get through this. Feeling so hopeless now, almost wish I would be admitted, where there wouldn't be so many smells to contend with! Sorry for the rant, really needed to get it out of me. Blush

Natsku · 21/01/2018 09:49

Welcome butterfly how many weeks are you? The sickness tends to peak between 9 and 13 weeks so even with medicine it's usually not enough to keep it completely under control but after those weeks for some people medicine can keep it much more under control (I was really lucky and the sickness was practically non-existent for much of the pregnancy so long as I took my meds religiously) so it's worth going back to your doctor and telling that you're still very nauseous and being sick.

Oh dear Endora have you checked your ketones? It feels like an eternity stretching ahead of you when you're still in the throes of the first trimester sickness, which is the worst, but time will pass. I remember well feeling like I'd never make it through but here I am at 39 weeks and starting to get scared about it ending and having to do the whole birth thing!

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 21/01/2018 09:57

Endora I could have written that apart from only being 8 weeks! I haven’t pooed since Tuesday!!

Ahh Natsku don’t tell me it’s going to get worse that this!! I had it in my head that 7-8 would be my worst weeks! 😂😩

Natsku · 21/01/2018 10:02

Sorry Didn't!

butterfly86 · 21/01/2018 11:16

Natsku I'm 9 weeks maybe that why I still rotten. Do you have to take Meds right through? I didn't know if I'd have to come off them at some point.

Natsku · 21/01/2018 11:48

Some need to take them all the way through or most of the way through but others find it gets much better about half way through and don't need to carry on with the meds.

Endora44 · 21/01/2018 13:53

thanks natsku and Didn't...I am feeling better now, after 2L of IV.

Herecomesanotherone2018 · 21/01/2018 15:59

I'm feeling the same as the rest of you! I'm cold all the time and have terrible constipation.

My ondanestron in the morning seems to help, then I take another one at lunch time but that one doesn't really do much. It's a battle to get through the day. By tea time I end up crying. I just want to go to bed and sleep through it all! It's so hard as my dd is really struggling with me being so ill.

I'm 9 weeks tomorrow so praying it doesn't get worse!!

justtheonethen · 21/01/2018 18:23

Hey all. Sorry to see so many struggling Sad
Endora poor you, bet you feel better though!

I hope you're all religiously swigging lactulose morning and night for the constipation. Religiously!

If meds are becoming less effective then get back to gp, I had to have a higher dose of ondansetron. Or they can add another type of anti emetic in to the mix.

Meds wise you might be able to stop, you might be like me and take them all the way through. Just don't try and wean off until you feel better, some here have had horrid relapses by doing that.

I've had a nice day, yoga and hair cut. Not nauseous today, hurrah for steroids! Vomming in my mouth whenever I bend over but think that's just a late pregnancy lack of space thing!

Natsku · 21/01/2018 19:11

I found fruit flavoured lactulose in the pharmacy the other day - soo much better than the normal stuff! With an odd after taste of marzipan.

Natsku · 21/01/2018 19:14

Most likely the lack of space just if you bend over then your stomach gets more squashed so no surprise something comes up! Glad you had a nice day and aren't feeling nauseous.

Had a nice day too except SPD is much worse now, I guess more of the relaxin hormone stuff is being released now to prepare my hips for the birth. Took DD to circus school, good fun watching the children learn some acrobatics. Going to start this baby young with the circus training!

Shehz21 · 21/01/2018 19:43

Oh gosh suffering all around Sad
Feeling really bad for you lot, especially the first trimester ladies.. hope you all are gonna start coping with your medecines soon. I do remember the days where nothing would work except trying to sleep as much as possible to make time pass.
I would strongly suggest to try and sleep whenever you feel at your worst. Lying down is usually considered a "safe" position/option. But unfortunately i know it's not really possible for you ladies with other small children. Hope you have enough support from your respective DPs and family members/relatives to help out to whichever extent is possible. There are better times ahead, be strong my fellow hg sufferors Flowers

Natsku I am 31+ 3 and started feeling that my SPD is getting worse day by day. Your post just made so much sense now about the relaxin hormone getting released more. Though you are much much closer to the finishing line and it must be agonizing for you at this point. Hope Baby Nat comes couple of days sooner. Atleast now your DD had a lovely birthday party and you had time to clean up! Now it's all about waiting for this wee one!

Thingy Massive congratulations!
Cheers to a new beginning,HG free and maybe caffeine free for sometimeWink
Take care of yourself and enjoy all the warm baby cuddles!

Endora and Spiders Lactulose and prune juice works wonders ladies!
So sorry you are both feeling so shite atm. Really emphasize :(
Endora never worry about ranting on here, we are all here to support you and a good rant can really do some(a lot of!)good sometimes. Also do keep an eye on your ketones cus you might need to be admitted if you are not being able to keep down anything including your tablet.

herecomes Oh dear I really hope you do turn a corner soon.. do get some lactulose and prune juice for the constipation. Hopefully you do get relief atleast from this and keep warm love. Big hugs to youFlowers

Anatidae · 21/01/2018 20:12

Hello all. I’m finally pregnant (hurrah) and have hg again (not hurrah.)

8 weeks now and it’s noticeably worse than last time. I puked until I peed myself this morning - you know when it’s so continuous and violent you can’t catch a breath in between? Just awful :(

I’m signed off work at least - for two weeks. Have tried all the anti emetics they will prescribe and none have ANY effect at all.

Just feeling tired and miserable and could do with a few supportive words to be honest.

Mustang27 · 21/01/2018 21:25

Hey peaches please tell me you accepted your mums help especially if your wee one is poorly.

Didn't there is nothing wrong with needing fluids so don't hold off for too long. It's better to go sooner and not needlessly suffer.

Hi butterfly of course you can join us I'm sorry that you have to but massive congrats on your pregnancy. Is this your first hg pregnancy?

Endorra that sounds absolutely miserable. Honestly the smells are the worst. Is there a smell you like normally like an essential oil? You could try making a wee sniff bag or just have a material tissue laced with it that you can hold up to your nose to over power everything else. It won't take away your nausea but might help a little. The constipation was unbearable here be careful to avoid not going for too long as impaction is a risk. Have you tried dulcolax? Glad you got fluids.

Nat sorry about the spd it won't be long now before baby is here. Looking forward to that update. That sounds like a lovely day.

Anatidae congrats on the pregnancy sorry you are suffering Hg again. Oh yeah they are still stuck firmly in my mind those vomit sessions. All the anti emetics that they will prescribe?? So does that include ondansetron? You will get all the support in world here. What plans do they have next as they really can't just let you get dehydrated and stick you on a drip for the rest of your pregnancy.

Natsku · 22/01/2018 02:57

Congrats on the pregnancy Anatidae but sorry meds aren't helping you - do they have a plan on what to do if the meds don't work?

Shehz21 · 22/01/2018 08:01

justtheonethen i'm so sorry I completely missed your post yesterdayBlush
Bless those steroids! I had to go in again last night and kept begging for them from the doctor but was flatly refused.
I am going to go back to taking phenergan x2 a day now and see if it helps. I was trying to wean off slowly by taking it once a day but it's just making my situation worse. I so wish I could have the steroids though.. fed up of this constant vom at past 31 weeks.
Are they keeping you on steroids until the day you go into labour Just?

Waves at Mustang Flowers
Can't believe you are being able to replace Mama Hen these days with your 2 wee ones!! You are superwoman!
Hope both Minis are doing well and you are having a good recovery.

Shehz21 · 22/01/2018 08:11

Anatidae Welcome and congrats on your pregnancy. So sorry you are suffering so badly.
A lot of us can relate to how awful those vomits are.. I spent my time crying on the bathroom floor after those vomits feeling utterly miserable and fed up. Really feel so sorry to know you are currently going through this. A big warm hug to you!
Maybe you have been trying the anti emetics individually and now you should start trying a mix of them? A couple of us have had this problem of medecines not working on their own but when taking 2 or even 3 together, THEN we finally did find some relief! Also as long as you can't keep nothing down, mever hesitate to in and get fluids. I know it can be such a hassle and the very thought of moving from one place to another can trigger horrible nausea but once you do get the fluids, you do get some alleviation from the horror of HG. Well temporarily but still.
Hope you turn a corner soon. And come and rant away anytime, we are all here for youFlowers this is your little "safe" place and an amazing support network where you will receive great advice and unconditional support till the end.

justtheonethen · 22/01/2018 08:38

Ana congratulations but sorry that meds aren't working. What is the plan next then? Have you tried them in combination?

Shehz poor you. Demand to see a consultant at the hospital/antenatal clinic. That's the only way I saw someone sensible. I went in ready to be all guns blazing and beat them over the head with the research but he agreed to them straight away. There is no risk to baby other than small risk to you of getting GD through possibility of increased blood sugar. It hasn't increased mine. You need to see someone more senior. Although my gp would have prescribed I think actually so that might be worth it but I would call midwife and request a consultant app.
I'm on them until I give birth and will taper off then.

bitzy12 · 22/01/2018 10:39

Hi, has anyone tried prochlorperazine? I've just been prescribed it, I had it in my second pregnancy and it did help but I've been told it can make you sleepy. I can't remember the affect it had on me last time x

justtheonethen · 22/01/2018 10:53

Bitzy I had it, it did make me sleepy initially but that went after a week.

bitzy12 · 22/01/2018 10:55

Thanks, I can cope worth sleepy over nausea anyday to be honest x
