I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Fast moving thread again

Mustang, hoping things are ok. Please keep us updated.

Thingy, I took ondansetron at a high dose from about Week 8. My 20 week anomaly scan showed baby to be absolutely fine. Have a look on the PSS forums for reassurance as it made me see just how many women were taking it. That cleft pallet study has been debunked as the sample size was too small (don't forget some babies will always be born with anomalies, regardless of medication). Recent RCOG guidelines consider ondansetron safe.

1984 - I switched drugs several times after about 5 days when it became very apparent it wasn't working. I'd see your GP on Monday

I survived the BBQ without vomiting but had to hide inside several times because of smokers Sad

cantdothisagan2017 · 24/06/2017 23:19

Having the worst day of Thai pregnancy so far. I've been sick so many times and with a sore throat it's agony. I feel truly awful and quite depressed 😔🤢

cantdothisagan2017 · 24/06/2017 23:20

This not Thai !!!

Melleebacca · 25/06/2017 01:00

Can't - it's awful having a sore throats with HG. Any illness sets me off, and I've been so lucky this time around. Try custard, yoghurt, ice lollies etc, to soothe. Whatever appeals and you're happy to bring up again.

Mustang - for the first trimester, I slept in the spare room. Hubby saw my agony yesterday and offered to sleep elsewhere, he's very good in that regard. But it's also slightly selfish as he gets a better sleep too without me kicking and moaning.
I only get piles near the end. I want to hang upside down to get the weight of baby off everything.

LucindaE · 25/06/2017 08:50

Sorry for suffering all round.
can't Try not to worry too much - as below. Sensible to book scan if you are worried, though. Keep an eye on those ketones.
mustang Great advice from others about cramps. That doesn't sound like an mc, with no obvious bleeding.
1984 I agree with others, if they haven't worked after a few days, it's worth asking for something else.

Melleebacca Oh dear, that does sound painful!
Have to rush out and will be out all day but I hope everyone is managing.

OP posts:
pippanippa · 25/06/2017 14:44

Oh no, sorry to hear about that Mustang, I hope things settle down soon though, how far along are you again? Sounds like a horrible day can't, other sicknesses on top of HG are just horrible. Holly hope you have a better day today.

Sorry, it's a fast-moving thread again and I haven't quite kept up but hope everyone else is keeping as well as possible!

Thingymaboob · 25/06/2017 15:12

@LucindaE @Melleebacca @Melleebacca @cantdothisagan2017 @Lemondrop99
Thank you for replying to my anxious stream of consciousness rant.
My SIL was very supportive this morning. She didn't have HG but she still vomited everyday during her pregnancy. She said "I can totally understand your anxiety. I think I've read about the drug you mean in the past and my understanding is that it is safe. I know you'll know all this, but it's hard not to have irrational fears. I think you just have to remind yourself that you had no option - you were keeping yourself alive, basically. And in any case all the recent evidence suggests no harm can have come from it. Your baby will be absolutely fine. You are doing the best you can for them. Your decision was a safe and reasonable one in the circumstances, so you did nothing to regret and nothing that will have caused any detriment to your baby. I'm sorry - must be very difficult. Being solely responsible for growing a person is a massive responsibility and I found the weight of it made me very anxious. That, on top of feeling ill for months makes pregnancy, in my experience, really really hard. So go easy on yourself. You've had it very tough and you're doing really well."
She was so lovely and so rational, total opposite to my mum who has spoken volumes with her silence on the situation. My mum is an anti vaccine sort of person, she reads something in the daily mail and then us convinced it's the truth!

DeadDoorpost · 25/06/2017 15:42

Gonna have to go and reread the last few pages coz I'm totally.lost even though I've just read through the messages...

So my bump has started showing. Like suddenly. Had a load of people comment on it today at my church. DH even looked at me and said 'how could I not find you attractive like this.. baby bump awww' and then proceeded to talk to the bump for a bit which he hasnt done at all. First time he's really seemed excited so that's good.
Sickness really seems to be far away for me atm which is nice but the stomach twinge aren't and neither is the constipation that I'm now feeling.

And i cant stand chocolate apprently unless its a penguin bar. So pasta it is for me...

UnbornMortificado · 25/06/2017 18:36

Lules hope your feeling a bit more positive Flowers

I'm in hospital so DD has been sent kicking and screaming to "that crazy house" aka my mams (there is nothing wrong with her house, there's just more people then she's used too) I'm too tired to feel guilty tbh.

FlapAttack88 · 25/06/2017 19:11

Hello everyone. Sorry been awol.. my sickness has subsided a bit and am back at work and just keeping my head above water afyer the scans.. has taken me a while to get my head bavk together.. still not quite there.

So sorry to read so many of you suffering so badly. I am 25 weeks now and have just had nausea for last 2 weeks and so I am so thankful for that and wish for all of you to get maximum or at least some form of respite soon. I know for some it doesn't happen but it makes the "take one day at a tme" thing much easier if you keep up the hope the next day may be the start of turning a corner.

Mustang I really hope things are ok and you're ok. It must be a big worry.. I have read lots about people weird discharge in pregnancy, it's most likely totally nothing but nothing is without worry when it's happening to you so don't be too hard on yourself. Anything happened since ?

Also sorry to hear of all the people worrying about drugs and defects. I took a lot of courage from lucindas words that of the the years she has looked after this thread she hasn't heard of one case of drug linked defects.

Waves to all and sending wishes your way x

Lemondrop99 · 25/06/2017 19:30

Thingy, glad you're feeling better. I think everyone who takes medication has a guilt trip over it, but sadly it's a necessity. What a lovely SIL you have

It's nice to get a bump, isn't it Door? Makes it seem a bit more real. I'm finally look pregnant rather than just fat. Had to wait for a table in the restaurant and the staff member was getting all worried and trying to find somewhere for me to sit down while waiting, even though I said I was fine. Very funny but sweet. I think my bump is more obvious in my summer dresses than baggy tops and jeans.

Unborn, have to been taken in for a drip? Hope it makes you feel better

Nesting has kicked in big time here. I'm so excited about getting the mural painted tomorrow. I've been online furniture shopping (well browsing mostly) all afternoon. I've also gone a little crazy, even down to insisting we get an electrician in to replace the grubby old 70s light pendant in the nursery 😂 (It's an old lighting circuit with black and red cables so we have no idea how to do it ourselves). Yes, crazy nesting lady is here!!

Lemondrop99 · 25/06/2017 19:33

Cross posted. Hi Flap! Glad you're feeling better. I really hope it stays that way for you, I felt pretty good between 24-25 weeks. Week 26 hit and I'm feeling nauseous again and throwing up a bit Sad Someone told me about a 26 week hormone surge - I hope it's a myth!!

Lules · 25/06/2017 19:41

Thanks unborn. I am feeling a bit more positive. I had a big argument with my husband this afternoon but actually it's cleared the air and I think we understand each other a bit more now. It is a lot of responsibility for him too as I've been feeling so awful.

Off on holiday tomorrow for a few days. Dreading the drive even though it's only about 40 mins. Toddler is very car sick too.

lemon I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but I felt better at 24-5 weeks and then got really ill again at 26 Sad But it all seems quite random.

FlapAttack88 · 25/06/2017 19:58

Oh lemon and lules I have been living each non vomit day as if it's my last too haha... hg is so mean!!! Maybe this is the eye of the storm! 😂 yay for crazy nesting. .. the night before my son arrived I was in tk max for 3 hours and spend a small fortune of t shirts and polo tops for dh... with the full intention of making him.di a fashion show the next day and only keeping a handful.of favourites. .. then baby arrived and dh usession my distraction to his benefit and got sooo many nice clothes!!! I am doing the same with grimms toys and harry.potter merchandise this time round I hope 😂😂

NonStopDisco · 26/06/2017 08:42

Had a non vomit day yesterday, but felt like I did so much on Saturday I spent most of the afternoon asleep, and only really woke up this morning. Hoping today is better so I can actually do something!

Oklahoma · 26/06/2017 08:54

Sounds like grimness and misery all round. Nothing good to add I've had a dreadful weekend back to throwing up everything for theee days. 18/19 week growth spurt anyone? At least the temperature has dropped so the nights are less dreadful.

Avomine and promethazine are the same thing (can't remember who was asking).
I'm also worrying about drugs here. I've been taking ondansetron, promethazine and ranitidine since week 5 so every bit the baby has grown was in a drug haze. But Oklette is fine so I'm trying not to think about it. The good studies say it's safe so I think we just have to trust in that.

Thingymaboob · 26/06/2017 09:11

Thanks @Oklahoma did you take drugs with Oklette too?

I went to a friends house on Saturday for dinner. I arrived and they were shocked at how much weight I'd lost and how pale / dry I was. I threw up on arrival. They looked after me and prepared a roast dinner. I ate a delicious child sized roast dinner and a piece of banana bread. It was so nice to eat something other than hula hoops / white bread. Wow! My energy levels really went up and I felt like my old self again. I didn't vomit it back up. I was delighted that I'd turned a corner.
Unfortunately this delightful evening was followed by a really bad day yesterday where I woke up vomiting bile, vomited up breakfast, vomited all afternoon, vomited up a jacket potato. It was awful. Crippling nausea. Vomited so much acid that my mouth started to bleed again. Felt like I was back in week 8 again. I'm 12 weeks now, it doesn't look like my cloud is lifting anytime soon! 😭😭😭😩😩😩😫☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️🤢

Oklahoma · 26/06/2017 09:16

Thingy speak to your doctor about getting ranitidine or omeprazole or similar. They stop your body from producing so much stomach acid. It's helpful for heartburn later in pregnancy but I found it also helps reduce the awful bile vomits and acid churn. It made a massive difference for me.

Yes I took a lot of drugs with Oklette too and she is thriving.

I have a new food to rival rice on the vomiting misery scale btw. Pesto. It was horrific.

Melleebacca · 26/06/2017 09:27

3rd trimester nausea here. I don't think it ever went away, but it's definitely kicking up a gear. Nauseous almost all day now, whether I take ondansetron or not. But definitely worse on drug free days. No actual vomits yet, mostly just small mouthfuls. I feel like there's not much fluid around baby as water tastes disgusting to me again.
Counting down the days. Trying to find distractions to get me through.

Thingy - most people with HG don't find the corner till closer to 14w. The 12w mark is really hard emotionally as you're expecting to be recovering. Just hang in there.

Oklahoma - is there any time baby isn't having a growth spurt?!? Feels like they're constant. Pesto vomits give some pretty gruesome mind pictures.

LucindaE · 26/06/2017 10:40

UrbanMortificado Oh no, have you been admitted for fluids? Poor you. It is upsetting for DD when mother is taken to hospital. How are you now?
Oh dear, eveyrone, some bad days for many, what with these growth spurts -as Melleebacca says they seem to constant. I have heard of a ten week hormonal surge and a twenty week one, but am unsure of the rest. Melleebacca Much sympathy about pesto vomit and that sickness is ramping up again for the third tri. That is such a disappointment.
Thingymaboob Great advice from a nice SIL.
DeadDoorPost That is sweet from DH.
FlapAttack Congratulations on returning to work. Mother Hen of course, says, 'Don't overdo it.' My comments are so original...
Lemondrop Hey, that light fixture might well be a collectable - you never know. 1970?'s?
Lules Can toddlers take ant car sickness meds safely? I used to give my DD car sickness meds from age five that you could get at Boots - but I don't know about toddlers? Good luck for car journey and holiday.
Oklahoma Sorry about dreadful weekend. Remind me what meds you are on?
Thingymaboob Great advice from Oklahoma about anti acids. They can really help in reducing the sickness. I am glad you had a roast dinner. How are those pesky ketones after all that vomiting?
Waves to NonStopDisco Hollyhop Can't and everyone. Watch me cross post.

LucindaE · 26/06/2017 10:42

Oklahoma Sorry, it was you with the pesto vomit Envy.
NonStopDisco I am glad about that one good day, but you know Mother Hen's mantra about overdoing it. Long sleeps are wonderful for mending the body and growing babies!

Lules · 26/06/2017 11:27

I don't think they can have anything til they're 5. But our car won't start anyway so we're waiting for the AA...

Hope everyone is feeling a bit better today

flossyfloss · 26/06/2017 11:54

I'm starting to turn the corner Confused I actually feel really guilty reading how much you are all suffering Sad I haven't actually vomited since Tuesday last week - my nausea is getting slightly less every couple of days. I'm down to two ondansetron a day now instead of 3. I'll be 12 weeks on Friday. I have never started to recover this early in my other pregnancies, it's normally around 16 weeks. I am crossing my fingers this continues. I hope you all start to get some relief soon Flowers

PayingMyWayYouSay · 26/06/2017 16:28

Hello all,

I was referred here by some others from a thread I started about my HG and how it's financially getting difficult now due to no more sick pay.

How is everyone?!

May I ask what you're all having (if you know).

I'm 20 weeks with a DS Flowers

NonStopDisco · 26/06/2017 17:57

Lucinda I've definitely learnt to not overdo it from last Fridays bathroom painting palaver! flossy glad you starting to feel better, hope it continues!
Hello paying, and welcome- sorry you have to be here! I haven't red your thread, but sounds like it's been very severe if you've run out of sick pay. What medication are you taking?
