Today I've been admitted to hospital and told my baby will need to be delivered in next 24 hours due to poor growth and almost no waters. Baby is only measuring at 1lb 2oz with a less than 50% chance of survival. My husband and I are devastated and terrified. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Hi RTkangamummy, she is intubated at moment, she's on the same oxygen that we are breathing, they haven't needed to up it. Lots of wires. I'm finding it difficult to switch off and sleep but husband has managed to sleep a little, I think he needed it just as much as me, been an overwhelming couple of days. The sister that just came to do my obs has said she is doing ok as they've had no calls from scbu stating otherwise. It's still scary though.

Well done for getting through the first day. It is easier to say than do but try to pace yourself, get rest so you can recover quickly from the birth,

We have named her, she can have family visitors tomorrow too. Our parents are anxious to check up on us and meet her. Hopefully she will continue to do well.

Congratulations on your little girl from me here in Canada. Just wanted to let you know that someone's still awake and cheering her on with you. The middle of the night can be a lonely time but it's good you'll have family around soon. Fingers crossed for a good day tomorrow.

Panda that's really good she is in air (as opposed to needing extra oxygen)....don't panic about the wires, it looks a lot, but everything is helping your beautiful daughter to fight. I hope you got some sleep last night so you are refreshed enough to visit NICU.

paddypants13 · 13/10/2016 08:24

Sounds like she's doing well considering what she's been through. That's lovely to hear.

How lovely that she can meet her grandparents.

Hope you manage to get a bit of rest whilst gps are there. Remember to look after yourself.

Come on reallytitcypanda, we're all rooting for you. x

Stay strong titchy it's such a strange experience having a premmie. I felt so matter of fact about it to start with, it must've been shock and my brains way of coping. It's not how you expect your early days with the baby to be is it. You'll get used to the constant beeps and bongs of the monitors in SCBU. I second what a pp said, lots of kangaroo care once she's strong enough. And look after yourself. Lots of luck xxx

LondonRoo · 13/10/2016 10:53

I can't imagine how you might be feeling but did just want to say I'm with all the MNers rooting for your little girl!
