Just curious really, I'm 34 weeks and if I'm going around a corner and lean forward to double check my ribs are in agony as baby seems to love resting his feet up there.

Was it possible to drive at 36 - 40 weeks I feel fine driving at the mo but my mum keeps nagging me saying I shouldn't lol

I drove up until I was 40+3 with DD - drove myself to hospital for a sweep that day.

Didn't drive when I was in labour the next day Grin

CharlieWoo · 08/03/2014 13:51

I drove home at 38 weeks and went into labour a few hours later. I drove right to the end!

MyNameIsKenAdams · 08/03/2014 13:51

Yes, I was still driving at 40+1. I was certain id be able to drive in labour but alas, it was too painful for me to even contemplate it.

I figured id drive as long as it didnt hurt too much or I couldnt get the belt round me.

scarlettsmummy2 · 08/03/2014 13:53

Yes, drove right up to labour, and did a five hour drive when my second daughter was five days old.

Catsmamma · 08/03/2014 13:53

I didn't even pass my test until I was 37 weeks with ds1. Moved house at 38 weeks...lots of driving with the car packed to the gunnells :D

Good job he was almost two weeks late really.

McFlurry · 08/03/2014 13:53

I was still driving the day before I was induced at 41+3

stargirl1701 · 08/03/2014 13:58

Yes. I drove up until the day I gave birth.

BikeRunSki · 08/03/2014 14:00

Yes. I was driving 5 mins before my waters broke with dd at 39 wks.

Christelle2207 · 08/03/2014 14:05

Yes definitely. However did not venture far from home in the last weeks- half hour trips at the most. It was a bit uncomfortable so I wouldn't have wanted to drive long distance. I also cycled till the endWink

GingerMaman · 08/03/2014 14:07

Yes definitely, until dat before.

ThePowerOfCake · 08/03/2014 15:05

I'm still driving short distances at 38+6. Not sure when I'll stop as I can still easily reach pedals and steering wheel and DH doesn't drive.

ShoeWhore · 08/03/2014 15:10

Yes - I passed my test at 37 weeks and ds arrived 2 weeks later. I got quite a bit of practice in before he turned up Grin

Nocomet · 08/03/2014 15:15

Yes

EirikurNoromaour · 08/03/2014 15:15

Yes I was driving the day before he was born at 40+ 3. It was tricky especially with no power steering but not impossible.

hubbahubster · 08/03/2014 15:17

I'm learning to drive and I'm 28 weeks. Will be doing my test three weeks before I'm due so I'm delighted to hear that some of you did the same!

rockybalboa · 08/03/2014 15:17

Yep. Had to get my other DC to nursery so no choice really. Don't remember it being especially uncomfortable other than with DS1 when we still had a stupid 2 seater sports car til quite late on and that was a bugger to get in and out of with a bump.

greentshirt · 08/03/2014 15:19

Im still driving at 35 weeks and not planning on stopping. I am having loads of pain under my ribs though which is worse when im squashed up in the car so will only be doing necessary journeys now. I can still fit fine in the car though so if I was feeling ok I dont think it would be an issue

Hoppinggreen · 08/03/2014 15:20

Yes I did. I went to my GP on my due date for my 1st for a routine check and she sent me to hospital as she was worried I had pre Eclampsia. Never occurred to me or to drive there. When I did they said they wanted to induce me but I said that I didn't want to leave my (new) car in the car park and I didn't have my bags or anything so could I come back next day.
They agreed so I drove myself home.
I went into labour naturally later that night - got DH to drive me then though !!!

StainlessSteelCat · 08/03/2014 15:21

Continued up until start of labour, if baby had been late I may have had to stop because if my bump was any bigger the seat would have been so far back I wouldn't have reached the steering wheel or pedals! One pregnancy the car door all froze shut when I was 4 months or so, I managed to climb in via the boot Grin The thought of not driving at end of pregnancy was horrific, I had SPD and walking far was not an option.

ipswichwitch · 08/03/2014 15:24

I drove myself in for a sweep the day before I had DS at 39 + 6. The last couple of weeks I never drove far as I found it uncomfortable sitting still for any length of time.

ZingSweetMango · 08/03/2014 16:38

yes. drove beyond 41 weeks with 2 of them (DS2, DS5)

when I was pg with DD and 5 days over I drove back home after picking up kids from school.
15 mins later my waters broke and she was born in 12 hours.
so there.Wink

ZingSweetMango · 08/03/2014 16:40

also I had my UK driving test when 8 me months pg with DS2 (as my Hungarian one was not going to be valid about a month after he was due)

BeCool · 08/03/2014 16:41

Yes. But not in labour Smile

SummerRain · 08/03/2014 16:57

I was driving the day before I gave birth to ds2 at 40+5. It was a bit uncomfortable but totally manageable.

But everyone is different and your body shape, how the baby is lying and type of car are all going to affect whether you can keep driving.

onceipopicantstop · 08/03/2014 17:10

Still driving at 40+3 but it is uncomfortable now. Have also put a towel on the seat just in case my waters go in the car!!
