Just curious really, I'm 34 weeks and if I'm going around a corner and lean forward to double check my ribs are in agony as baby seems to love resting his feet up there.

Was it possible to drive at 36 - 40 weeks I feel fine driving at the mo but my mum keeps nagging me saying I shouldn't lol

FruitbatAuntie · 08/03/2014 17:42

Yes, both times. I drove myself to hospital to give birth with DS2 (not actually in labour though as had a CS Grin).

SauvignonBlanche · 08/03/2014 17:47

I was fine in very early labour but I stopped when the contractions got painful. I think driving right up to giving birth would be pretty dangerous!

UniS · 08/03/2014 19:17

I was driving at 40+10, drove home about 30 mins before waters broke.

PiratesMam · 08/03/2014 19:25

I'm 40+2 and still driving, it's fine apart from turning around to reverse or parallel park is tricky. But hey, that's what bumpers are for, right?!

PenguinsEatSpinach · 08/03/2014 19:28

Yup, both times. And this time I'll be doing the school run when overdue, most likely.

Pregnantagain7 · 08/03/2014 19:36

Yes drove right up until I gave birth and I was huge with last 2. Last one was 10lb 8 but driving was never an issue

ToriaPumpkin · 08/03/2014 20:13

I drove the day before I was induced (39+4) and would have driven myself to the hospital but DH was coming anyway.

I also drove to Tesco (a few minutes away) three days later after we brought DS home and I wanted to go for formula and maternity pads by myself Grin

CrispyFB · 08/03/2014 20:18

Driving about all over despite being in early labour this last time as I had loads of things I needed to do! However I wasn't sure if it was early labour though as it was 36+6 and no worse than the BHs I get in the evening that are not so bad it distracts me in any shape or form. The SPD was more of an issue and that was not distracting either. I'm a big stickler for safety, I'd never drive if I thought I was impaired. The children in the back are more distracting!

Later on that evening when I knew it WAS labour, I got DH to drive. Physically, I would have been fine though as it was still not more painful, I just felt psychologically one shouldn't drive in labour Wink

Now very frustrated I can't drive for a few weeks due to the c-section!

I stopped around 30 weeks with DS1. I was having chest pains that left me unable to move, let alone drive. I am still driving at nearly 39 weeks with DS2, although only very short journeys. PGP makes it uncomfortable. Both times I have had very big and very awkward babies - they both like to put all their weight in one side of my bump, which makes things more difficult than they would have been otherwise!

Coveredinweetabix · 08/03/2014 20:25

With DC1, I stopped driving at 39w as I realised I was trying to change gear as infrequently as possible as it was so uncomfortable. Luckily, we lived within walking distance of shops, restaurants etc as I didn't give birth for another 3 weeks. With DC2, I was still driving on the day he was born (41+4) as he was positioned differently.

Jenijena · 08/03/2014 20:25

I picked up a new car at 40+1 (or 41+2 by my dates which looked to be more accurate in the end). Spent the journey there - an hour - hoping my waters wouldn't break in my old (to be traded in) car and the journey back hoping they wouldn't wreck the new car. Stopped when the intermittent contractions (every half an hour for four days, great) were predictable.

sittingatmydesk · 08/03/2014 21:07

I drove in labour. Grin

I was 36 weeks, at the park with ds1, and my waters broke.

Thought I'd better go home and pack a bag, so drove the 10 minute journey with mid contractions starting.

jaykay987 · 09/03/2014 08:46

Am I only one with short legs?

I'm only 23w and already my belly is touching my steering wheel - and I'm not that big! I'm worried how much more I grow and still fit behind the wheel! FX my bump changes shape as I'm terrified I will not be able to drive - it's my freedom!Grin

sandyballs · 09/03/2014 08:55

Yes drove right up until the day before my twin DDs were born. Lots of hospital appointments, being twins, and I didn't want DH to keep taking time off work, wanted him there for longer after they were born, obviously.

I was massive, as the babies were big for two - 6lb 15oz and 61b 2oz - I think I was almost sitting in the back seat Grin.

weebigmamma · 09/03/2014 19:36

I'm driving at 34 weeks (have to as hospital appointments are an hour away) but it's getting really uncomfortable as baby is breech and I can't bend over. The joys!

somewhereinessex · 09/03/2014 19:41

Drove to hospital for my CS with DH as passenger. He was feeling a bit sick at the prospect of having to be in the operating theatre. Same story with DS2.

StealthPolarBear · 09/03/2014 19:43

No I was a fetus just before birth. Shortly following I was working on focussing my eyes andsupporting my head

littleducks · 09/03/2014 19:51
Grin

I drove to pick up dh after my waters broke and did the school run when baby was 3 days old, so didn't really stop at all.

ISpyPlumPie · 09/03/2014 19:56

Yep drove up to 40+11 with DS1 though decided it was DH's turn to drive us to the hospital fir induction the next day Grin. Was driving on the day DS2 was born (though not whilst in labour). Actually, it was technically the day before as he was born in the early hours but you get my drift.

JuniperTisane · 09/03/2014 19:56

Grin Stealth.

I drove right up to the day I went into labour and the day before for dc2. I had no discomfort or trouble reaching the steering wheel though, my bumps are neat and all front and I'm long torsoed so I didnt stick out very far really.

SoonToBeSix · 09/03/2014 19:58

Yes , and I was pregnant with twins. Not sure why you wouldn't be able to.

harrassedswlondonmum · 09/03/2014 20:01

Yes right up to having twins with combined weight of 14 pounds. I do have long legs Grin

mrsbug · 09/03/2014 20:12

Yes, in fact i was supposed to get in the car to drive to pick dp up from work when my waters broke. Good job i hadn't left already or they would have gone when i was driving alone along a dark country lane!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 09/03/2014 20:53

Yes, right up until 42 +4 when ds1 was induced.

Martorana · 09/03/2014 20:56

I spent the night alone in my car stranded on the M25 in an unexpected blizzard at 8.5 months.

Not recommended- but a good story to tell!
