Well Turned Snowbird!

so what WOULD happen to either of your births if you went into labour before the 10th?

snowbird · 04/05/2004 21:08

As far as I know the only problems would be if the pregnancy is left to go over 37/38 weeks. But my hospital is a bit c**p on giving me any information so I could be wrong.

GeorginaA · 04/05/2004 21:16

My understanding is that the home birth is still off, I would probably be subject to more frequent monitoring, but otherwise let me get on with it in the hospital.

Which reminds me... I must phone that homeopathy helpline and find out if there's a homeopathic induction remedy rather than having to go the pessary & maybe drip route (don't care so much about the pessary - really don't want to go on a drip).

snowbird · 04/05/2004 21:28

Georgina, I'm desperate to avoid the drip aswell, if you find anything out could you please post.

GeorginaA · 04/05/2004 21:37

It will be my pleasure Things I'm trying at the moment is a hypnotherapy birthing tape (okay, so it's more to help deal with the actual birth than get me started early, but I'm trying to incorporate that suggestion in while I'm there ) and perineal massage (somebody suggested that can help things get going!)

Am going to phone the homeopathy helpline tomorrow. I think there's something in the childbirth kit I got which mentions increasing frequency of contractions - so maybe it'll be a case of taking that as well as the pessary? Will know more tomorrow hopefully.

Egypt · 05/05/2004 08:08

best of luck georgina and well done snowbird!
wonder how twiglett is doing - must check the childbirth thread.
have been having some mild backache and period type pains again last night, but had a bath and they went. i know i've 2 weeks to go but just want it to happen now.
looks like poor ol' lesley is underway though.

Egypt · 05/05/2004 08:12

Ooooo she's had it!!!

GeorginaA · 05/05/2004 08:32

Okay snowbird, I phoned them this morning.

Apparently, homeopathy doesn't force anything so if your body isn't ready then there's a chance it won't do anything. However, he thinks it's probably worth a try, even if it just tones the uterus up to help along.

He's suggested (with me going in for my induction Monday):

Friday night 11pm: Caulophyllum 200 11.30pm: Gelsemium 200
Sunday night 11pm: Caulophyllum 200 11.30pm: Gelsemium 200

Also suggested raspberry leaf tea, but not to go overboard - just 1 cup a day.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that all this helps

snowbird · 05/05/2004 09:19

Brilliant Georgina, thank you.
Must get my order in to Helios, just hope it will come in time for Friday.

Egypt, I've been getting really bad period pains aswell, I'm hoping it means I'm about ready.

GeorginaA · 05/05/2004 11:38

I was very impressed at how quickly they posted the childbirth kit out actually... I ordered it in the morning and it arrived in the post next day. Both of those remedies I listed are in the childbirth kit.

I went into Holland & Barratt this morning and picked up some Raspberry Leaf capsules instead of the tea... not sure if that's more or less effective! The bottle says 3 times a day, but I'll probably stick to the homeopath's suggestion of one a day...

Sods law, I go into labour on the Saturday when I haven't sorted out childcare

libb · 05/05/2004 14:13

I'll go into labour for you! I really don't mind . . . .

GeorginaA · 05/05/2004 14:28

laugh

As long as if you going into labour means I'm no longer pregnant and have a new baby at the end of it, sounds good to me...

libb · 05/05/2004 19:02

Had another midwife appointment this afternoon, he appears to be lower down now (although I'm not 100% convinced, I had to be prodded by another midwife again to be sure!) and yet I'm still getting the bum bulges just under my ribs!

I have another appointment for next week where an induction will be booked if he still decides to stay put! Any prompting tips will be gratefully received - DP has already offered a pineapple and some caster oil . . .

I can't even make an innocent phone call without the person I'm calling going off into a panic! Bless them, at least they are interested!

Hope you are all well and not impatient like me!

Egypt · 05/05/2004 20:37

I'm impatient as well libb. And i've still got 12 days to go! I just know I'l go overdue. Eat a curry, have sex, drink raspberry leaf tea and make a carrot cake seemed to work on april thread!!

spots · 06/05/2004 06:37

I'm also getting periodpain cramps, and it's sort of nice to feel things down there are thinking about doing something sometime... I am excited in a christmas stocking sort of a way and when I waks up too early (like today) can't get back to sleep. Think I'll try and get a haircut today as it might not be possible with child on board (suppose it could cuddle down under that black capey thing they make you wear).

I had a 5am mumnsnet question... what was it again...?

spots · 06/05/2004 06:49

Egypt did you find a birth announcement from Twiglett? am not seeing one...

Egypt · 06/05/2004 12:14

no no announcement from twiggy...i was talking about lesley earlier - sorry!

Egypt · 06/05/2004 12:20

Ooo spots you must be very excited - it's tomorrow isn't it?!! and you too vivat. I don't know why I am getting worked up over few cramps when i still have 11 days.....well 10 if you dont count today!
had more period cramps last night and little bubs was really squirming and hurting me down in the pelvis. At one point i am sure it had turned posterior because i could feel lots of little hard lumps at the front instead of one big bum. seems to be back round the other way again now, but writing this, have realised i havent felt any movements since 7am.......must go and prod....panic

libb · 06/05/2004 13:11

Egypt, I've been getting obvious arms and legs at times too - plus the bum! The little darling is definitely his father's son! I wasn't convinced by the raspberry tea because I had two cups and following those he decided to go upwards, perhaps I am just watching him too much!

The midwife asked me about movements yesterday and I seriously couldn't answer - I have become obsessed with his position instead! I think he is a lot quieter than he was but I still get some hearty prods to remind me. Not long for you now Spots!

libb · 06/05/2004 13:11

Sorry Vivat, didn't mean to leave you out! I hope it is going well for both of you!

spots · 06/05/2004 17:04

ooh don't know, don't really feel much readiness... went for a talk about water birth at the hosp. today, thinking I might as well have that option and it really made me look forward to the whole thing. Midwives there just seem really sussed and made me feel that an intervention free birth is within reach.

Are you still around vivat? how's tricks?

I have no bum in my bump, just one knee or heel that hokey cokeys in and out in the same place every time. Think back still too far round to register.

Not so long for you either libb! or anyone for that matter... relatively speaking...

kbaby · 06/05/2004 19:06

Hi everyone.
Glad that everyones ok.
Had a tour of the hospital ward today, not very inspiring. It looked like a operating room with only one chair next to the bed. We have a nursing unit nearer to where I live which looked far nicer, there are only single rooms and each room has its own unsuite and you can stay in as long as you want, if you feel you need extra help with breastfeeding etc. I have to have the baby at the main hospital for health reasons but I think after 6 hrs Im going to ask for a discharge and go to the local birth unit instead. Looks far more homely and friendly. Plus free parking!!
16 days to go for me yet and no more signs of anything happening. So much for all the contractions at 23 weeks and the thought that the baby would be early!!

Bozza · 06/05/2004 20:36

Been to midwife today. She says baby's growth has slowed down. Also fact that it is slightly engaged is positive too given size.

Am starting to get to the point where I am ready for action. DH is twitchy too. Rang him today to ask who was collecting DS from nursery and he thought it was all happening. He also didn't enjoy his sober night away in Birmingham....

Egypt · 06/05/2004 20:38

Have been having cramps and backache/period pains all day. Also think i have a lot of trapped wind which is causing most off these cramps. Am wondering if its nearing. For 3 days this has happened in the eve, but today its been all afternoon/eve........mother in law is here as well, so can't just let excess wind out whenever feel like it!!!!

Egypt · 06/05/2004 20:40

Bozza - stop competing!! You have 10 days (like me!!!!) maybe we'll beat some of the earlier girls after all
