Oooo libb - thanks for that, very useful info!

libb · 20/04/2004 16:24

I'm still going to pack my bag - just so I don't feel like I'm waiting for a bus or something. Besides, the novelty of glossing the nursery has worn off today!

GeorginaA · 20/04/2004 16:28

libb, pleeeeeeeease come and pack mine for me when you're done!

prufrock · 20/04/2004 16:58

Springchicken please don't believe everything you google - lots of the stuff on the web is old, (and overly scary). And very little research has been done, so remember that all tehscary figures are based on small sample sizes. The main thing to remember is that OC is only really dangerous if not diagnosed. Once you've had a test for it, and are being managed, the prognosis is really very good.
this is one of the best explanations of how care should be managed, and if youhave any other questions, the support line on 0121-353-0699 run by Jenny Chambers is wonderful.

SpringChicken · 21/04/2004 09:46

Thank you so much. Am not worrying too much about as nothing can be done until the test results come back - just like to know what the situation is if they come back positive.

Will have a look through both sites today - Thanks again Georgina & Prufrock

hope all is well for you springchicken. need to ask whats going on!?! woke in night with period pains. they would come and go but very close together and lasted for only about an hour, when i went back to sleep. they weren't that bad at all, just mild, but were definitely accompanying tightenings/braxton hicks. please don't tell me this means i am close - well do if it does mean that
my cousin who is due 5 days b4 me went into hosp with pains yesterday and was told she was 4 cms dilated. after a while she returned back to 1cm and was sent home!!!! never heard of undilating! I STILL HAVE 3.5 WKS

GeorginaA · 21/04/2004 11:43

I still have 5 weeks to go (well... 3 when they induce me) but I had something similar the other night. I woke up at three am with a REALLY strong braxton hicks - I had to breathe through it & was really uncomfortable. I noted the time and waited in case I got another one but I never did. Couldn't get back to sleep for ages either

Can you phone your midwife to check, Egypt? May well be that you are close...

zipper · 21/04/2004 11:58

Hi! I was due in May! But I'm having little bub next Thursday! Sorry! So excited, got used to saying to people who asked that bub was coming NEXT month, but now it is next week, really weird! So I guess I am not really entitled to be on this thread, never mind, good luck to you all!!

Egypt · 21/04/2004 14:15

oo good luck Zipper!

Shall see if it happens again Georgina and if so will ring her tomorrow. Mum says that its maybe he head engaged and causing more braxton hicks and therefore pains, but who knows!

GeorginaA · 21/04/2004 14:28

Btw ... am I the only one who keeps slipping up and calling them Branston Hicks?! I must have food on the brain... anyone would think I'm 8 months pregnant or something...

Egypt · 21/04/2004 15:11

lol!
What do you wear during labour? I am panicking now. What if i use the birthing pool like i think i'd like to? Do i go naked??

libb · 21/04/2004 17:17

I've packed me bag(s) - the small one has nappies, brast pads and maternity pads so should be empty pretty quickly!

I don't know what to wear for labour and have no old t-shirts so will have to go out and buy something! I am also sticking to t shirt and vest tops, will they be okay? I have also discovered that for all the clothes the bean has collected so far, he has no trousers suitable for going home in!

So now it is just snacks and silly bits. I think!

prufrock · 21/04/2004 18:45

All my mail order stuff arrived today so I'm packing my bags tonight.
Had last antenatal at NHS today - bile acids are down to 31 (62 2 weeks ago) and final scan showed really good blood flow through babies heart so I am still OK to last until Tuesday.

kbaby · 21/04/2004 18:52

Hi everyone.
Egypt, the midwife at our parentcraft said to wear something like a vest or the top half of a swimsuit( the 2 piece ones) she said that some people wear long t shirts but once they get wet and you have to get out of the pool for them to clean it each hour, its horrible hanging about in a wet cold t shirt.Unless you take about 10 t shirts to change into each time.
Ive packed my bag so im not running around at the last minute. I bought down asda, cheap shampoo and shower gel, deodorant etc. Ive also packed some wagon wheels and lucozade. A friend also said to pack lipsalve and wet wipes for your face, to cool you down. I think im actually moving into hospital, ive got one bag full of labour stuff and clean knickers and nightshirts etc and then one bag for the baby, full of nappies and vest and going home outfit. Ive also been really sad and packed a bag full of lose change for the phone and a list of who to ring.

Egypt · 21/04/2004 20:19

snap with the phone list kbaby!!
good idea about the top half of swimming suit. Not sure i have any that aren't proper bikini tops, so instead of looking like i'm on me hols may just wear a vest top instead! i guess once you're out of the pool the clean dry knickers and maternity pads go on pretty sharpish, then the nightie. oh why do i fuss over minor details?!

Egypt · 21/04/2004 20:21

good news prufrock. hope you keep well

Linnet · 21/04/2004 21:21

Hey everyone, glad to hear you're all doing well. I'm fine apart from waking up yesterday morning with a stinking cold. Sneezed my way through work all day, one of my full days, and then when I got up this morning I thought nope I'm not going in today so I phoned in sick. I never phone in sick, I'm the type of person who has to be at deaths door before I'll phone in sick but I just felt so tired and ill I said sod it and phoned in. I'll be back on Friday though.

Our travel system arrived today. Had great fun with dd after school putting it all together and practising how to attach the car seat and remove it and folding it down etc. Dd had great fun because we put her baby Annabel in it, to pretend it was the real baby seems just about the right size of a newborn. I'm such a big kid about these things, lol.

Have half packed my bag. Got the basics like nighties, breast pads, maternity pads toiletries etc in it. Don't have any nappies yet still to buy them. For labour I'm planning on wearing a very old nightie that is big and loose that I actually remember wearing after having had dd. Because it's old I plan on wearing it for the birth and I have two nice new nighties to wear afterwards. Hoping to only stay in hospital for a maximum of 24 hours so fingers crossed that these will last me. Still got a few things to add.

Three weeks tomorrow is my due date, although I keep saying that I'm happy to go anytime now, the travel system is here, the moses basket is finished, nice lady at my work has made one for me. But then I remember that I'm getting my hair cut and dyed next Thursday so I don't want to go before then as I want nice hair, lol and my friend is going to wax my eyebrows and paint my toenails for me since I can't reach them anymore, my nails that is not my eyebrows, lol I finish work on May 1st so anytime after that will be fine. But I am all geared up for having to wait since dd was late, would rather go early though if I had a choice

Have another check up next week with my GP, not sure if I'll see her again after that or if that will be it until my appointment at 41 weeks, really hoping I don't have to go to the 41 week check though.

Has anyone else had a guesstimate to the weight of their baby? I asked the midwife when I saw her last and she told me that she thought the baby, at that point, was about the top end of 6lbs beginning of 7lbs. I was like Eeek I still have 5 weeks to go and dd was only 6lbs 9oz.

ok better go, again this is more of an essay than a message.

Linnet

I'm really beginning to dislike all you organised people Can you all club together and sort out my hospital bag for me?!

spots · 21/04/2004 23:01

I was sort of telling myself that packing a bag might be quite a good distraction during those long hours of early labour at home. Is that just naive??

Have bought myself some hospital nighties though. I would not consider myself to be a BhS kind of a girl but if anyone's looking for hospital nighties they had good simple blue t-shirty ones with great big long placket opening in sale... I really fancy a very glamorous bedjacket (pref. with ribbons) to wear for entertaining guests at bedside, and perhaps this might double as birthwear being short and well ventilated.... In my imagination it is made of gorgeous brightly patterned fabric which might also offer a welcome distraction from pain.
(nb in my imagination this is all it takes )

GeorginaA · 21/04/2004 23:09

Not naive but at least prepare a list beforehand or you could end up with all SORTS of weird stuff in those bags

I've bought myself 2 very ugly breastfeeding/easy access nighties from Mothercare. I figured that if I ended up ruining them then I wouldn't feel bad about chucking them

I'm so blase about the whole thing at the moment. I'm figuring I'm going for an early induction anyway, I'll pack the night before. I'm doomed if I go into premature labour

Egypt · 22/04/2004 10:44

think i have those same nighties georgina!!

spots · 22/04/2004 13:07

oh have you seen how few people are left on the april thread now?? Am all of a jitter. All these babies. Soon ours... any more knocking on your door Egypt?

After fantasising about bedjackets at 3am last night have set to making myself one because I don't think they exist in the real world. It's pink and spotty, rather panto... anyone remember Miss Popov in Rentaghost? That'll be me in the labour ward. Do you think I'll get lynched?

Egypt · 22/04/2004 14:18

spots, i think you are going slightly delerious! (sp?)

no more knocking no, just not sleeping. Have cleaned carpets in lounge hall and kitchen (yes carpet in kitchen - yuk) with industrial cleaner today......mmmm feel all fresh........with wet feet

Egypt · 22/04/2004 14:47

oh prufrock - how are you feeling? all packed and ready to go yet? can't believe one of us will have a baby in a week's time

redfiasco · 22/04/2004 14:59

Hello, I know Im joining very late in the day, but Im due May 14th, although, am being scanned 2mrw as consultant says baby is "large for dates", so could be earlier. This is my third, but finding it daunting even so.
