Hi and congratulations to everyone on their pregnancies. I was 41 when I had my last son and was induced around my due date due to my age although I think it was only because I asked if I should be, otherwise I'm not sure they would have mentioned it.

My sister is due in 2 weeks ( on her 40 th birthday) and they have offered to give her a sweep and induce her at due date. It seems like she's having a big baby as well but she's not sure how long to wait before being induced. Is the policy different on this in different areas, what have other people been told is best?
Thanks

htbftm · 26/04/2014 13:10

I read online that some areas induce at 38wks, but my midwife said here they'll offer me induction at term, so I guess it varies according to where u r!

Irishmammybread · 26/04/2014 21:37

Hi everyone.
Just wanted to let you know Miss Irish arrived in the early hours of yesterday morning! We came home after lunchtime the same day and are enjoying settling into family life with the newest member of the family. She doesn't sleep much and wants to feed constantly but is utterly adorable!

htbftm · 26/04/2014 22:24

Yay Irish!!!! So pleased for you! :-) Enjoy every minute with your precious LO! (And drop by sometimes to answer all our worries!) xx

notsoold · 27/04/2014 00:11

IAteSomeofthePies · 27/04/2014 10:25

Yay, Irish! Congratulations!! And welcome, little Miss Irish!

Louise7486 · 27/04/2014 14:18

Hello
40 and this is my first child so as you can imagine I'm pretty clueless on the whole thing. We are both excited and just basically trying to figure it out as we go.
I'm due 27/12, so a Christmas baby. That's the present for everyone sorted :)

BriePate · 27/04/2014 14:50

Congratulations Irish Flowers and welcome to the world Miss Irish! That's wonderful news and so glad to hear you went home so quickly. Enjoy all the cuddles!

PJ67 I think as htbfm says there are different policies on age in each area. Think 40 is generally a cut off age, and in my area they induce at 40, though the choice is still yours.

Hi Louise - welcome and congratulations! How lovely to be having a Christmas baby, the best present of all most definitely!

htbftm · 27/04/2014 15:31

Hi Louise! Lovely to have you aboard and congratultions! My EDD is 14/12/14, so we'll be together all the way lol!

Mummytobeforthefirsttime · 27/04/2014 19:43

Hell everyone,

I'm 42 and expecting our first child. OH and I have been together for 17 years! We have no other children. It's been a rocky road to get here with 5 recurrent miscarriages in the last few years and both set of parents passing away.

I am now 27 weeks and proudly sporting a huge bump! Really looking forward to meeting baby at the end of July. Pretty clueless on babies and parenting, my nephews are 16 and 14. I am a secondary school teacher but have little experience with small children Shock.

I am under consultant care and have another scan in two weeks time.

Mummytobeforthefirsttime · 27/04/2014 19:44

Should read Hello everyone not hell! Blush

htbftm · 27/04/2014 19:57

Hi MummyToBe! Sounds like you've had a really difficult journey - u must be soo relieved to be at 27wks! How exciting! There are no instructions with any of them, so you're in the same boat as everyone else, and will be great! xx

JBrd · 28/04/2014 08:38

Congratulations Irish and a warm welcome to the world to little Miss Irish! You have come such a long way, remember when we 'met' on the ttc thread?!
Hope you are enjoying getting to know her and all the lovely newborn cuddles.

Welcome louise and Mummytobe! Hope your pregnancies will be very 'boring' and uneventful - it is such a rollercoaster.

I am having the amniocentensis today at 10am - starting to get nervous now... I'm not too worried about the procedure as such, but the wait for the results is going to be awful.

BriePate · 28/04/2014 13:32

Jbrd I hope the amnio went well this morning and you are safely tucked up at home by now. How long will you have to wait for the results? Am keeping my fingers crossed for you and hope for some speedy results to put you out of all this misery.

Hi there Mummytobe and congratulations on your pregnancy! You are on the home strait now! Sorry to hear about your previous losses, how horrible for you. Not long for your lovely baby to be with you now. I was also a secondary school teacher pre-kids! I'm sure you will manage beautifully once your baby is here.

JBrd · 28/04/2014 14:01

I have had the worst possible news this morning.

When the consultant did the scan to prep for the amnio, he could not find a heartbeat. My baby has died.

I am in total shock. It was all going so well, and everything looked good at the last scan a few weeks ago.
They couldn't see any obvious reasons why, but he said that it might well have been that there really was a chromosomal abnormality that caused it. I will now go back in to take the first round of meds tomorrow, then going to be induced on Thursday.

It is all beyond my comprehension right now, I feel utterly destroyed.

I will now bow out and say goodbye to all you lovely ladies. I had so hoped that I would be with you for the rest of my pregnancy.

Good luck to every single one of you - may you all have healthy, happy pregnancies and lots of healthy, happy babies! xxx

notaflamingclue · 28/04/2014 16:17

JBrd, what terrible news. I am so sorry.

I have no words of advice but wanted to offer my sympathies, for what they are worth. Take care of yourself Thanks

Mummytobeforthefirsttime · 28/04/2014 16:53

JBrd, really sorry to hear your news. My thoughts are with you. I know no words can comfort you.

BriePate · 28/04/2014 18:01

Jbrd I am so very sorry to hear your awful news. How devastating. There are no words. Sending you hugs and thinking of you xx Flowers

htbftm · 28/04/2014 20:19

Jbrd I don't know what to say... I'm so sorry for your loss, and for what you have been through. My thoughts and prayers are with you all xx

IAteSomeofthePies · 28/04/2014 22:22

Oh no, JBrd, I'm so very sorry to hear your terrible news. I hope that you have lots of real life support. I'm thinking of you and your family.

notsoold · 29/04/2014 00:15

Jbrd...oohhh I am so sorry and I don't know what to say...
How awful my dear!!! my thoughts are with you..xxx

Irishmammybread · 01/05/2014 17:59

So sorry JBrd ,thinking of you at this sad time xxx

moneymaker40 · 02/05/2014 22:53

I am so glad that I came acrossed all you ladies. It is nice to read all of these comments & know other ladies are having babies @ 40. I am 23 weeks & i turned 40 in January. I honestly that I wouldn't have kids after 40 but I am glad so my 4 year old can have a sibling to grow up with. I did get rid of all my baby stuff so I am starting over. have any of you ladies used a carseat canopy? this is a free item & I only have to pay the shipping which seems like a great deal since I really don't want to spend a whole lot of money on buying all the baby items I will need. Any advice is great. Thank You!!!
