Thanks for asking notaflaming and Irish results still haven't arrived, but am taking heart in the fact that no news is good news! Jbrd hope you have some good news very soon with your results.

Hope you're all doing well and enjoying the sunshine.

BriePate · 17/04/2014 10:42

Just thought I'd share, blood test results came back with 1:3390 chance of Downs. Thank goodness! I know these tests (especially quad test) can be limited and I could always be that 1, but it's good news and now I don't have to face the threat of amino.

Jbrd hope your good results come through soon too and you can finally relax.

Happy Easter everyone Easter Smile

JBrd · 17/04/2014 13:09

Brie That's brilliant news, fantastic! You must be so relieved, now you can go and have a lovely Easter break Easter Smile

I have to admit that I am very Easter Envy! I have just been told that my results still haven't arrived, and that the most likely reason for that delay is that the test didn't work... Great.
They will call me again this evening for a further update, but I am starting to lose hope now that this will work out. Looks as if it's going to be CVS or amnio for me after all - I had so hoped I'd get away without doing it Easter Sad

BriePate · 17/04/2014 19:08

Jbrd I'm so sorry to hear you are still being let down like this - it's just causing needless, prolonged worry for you. I hope that the delay is caused by something benign like the Easter holidays being upon us and not that the test hasn't worked. What would be their reasoning for the test not working again? Surely an expensive test like that shouldn't just fail you twice? So unfair.

Thinking of you Flowers and I really hope you get some better news this evening.

JBrd · 20/04/2014 15:46

Well, the FMC did call again on Thursday, and yes, the test has failed again Sad
I am now provisionally booked in for a CVS with Prof Nicolaides on Wednesday... But currently thinking whether I should hold out for an amniocentesis instead, apparently it has a slightly lower risk for miscarriage.
And then there is that question about what to do if they indeed do confirm Down's Syndrome... So much to consider.

BriePate · 20/04/2014 19:19

So sorry to hear that Jbrd. I've heard of Prof Nicolaides though, isn't he supposed to be one of the best in his field? I think it was him I saw in a documentary a while ago, and he was brilliant. I've heard amino carries slightly less risk than CVS, though I bet that Prof N has good stats (I think it was notaflaming who said to look at the person performing the test's stats, as it could be a much lower risk of miscarriage with that particular person than the published averages suggest??)

It's awful you're having to worry like this. But even with high-risk odds of 1:17, it still means you have a very low percentage of having a baby with DS. Plus the fact your age alone would have completely skewed the data.

Am willing the time in between whichever test you decide to have and the results to come quickly for you, Jbrd. You so deserve a break with all of this.

dats · 20/04/2014 20:11

Thanks for the congrats!

Guthrie hooray and huge congratulations on the super speedy arrival! And so much for weight concerns! She was heavier than mine! Very happy for you and hope you're recovering well.

JBrd, beyond frustrating that you're having to go through this. I'm crossing everything that at some point, this will all be a distant memory.

Brie fantastic news on your results, what a relief!

tara49 · 21/04/2014 00:34

OOhh - wish i'd found this earlier - just managed to have my 5th 2 weeks before my 45th birthday - have been telling people that I am 'just 44' without adding 'just by the skin of my teeth'
All is going well and DS Jedidiah is a lovely bonny boy. DH thought we ought to call him 'Finale' - until I said maybe, maybe not - he nearly collapsed. That's it though, I'm done now and proud to be an older mum.

Gumblossom · 22/04/2014 01:06

Hello - I am not pregnant, but have been on the ttc 40+ thread for years, so just wanted to check in on my mates, Jbrd and Irish.

Jbrd, I am sorry to hear that the harmony didn't work out. I hope they can have testing and results done and dusted soon, and that your mind will be put at ease.

Irish, you must be getting very close to due date? I haven't read through this thread, just the last couple of pages, and I am so excited for you. Reading about others having their babies makes me even more clucky!

I can't wait to hear your good news. Thanks

notaflamingclue · 22/04/2014 09:46

Brie congratulations on your results. That's fantastic, I'm so pleased for you.

JBrd, so sorry to hear they've mucked up your test. Must be so worrying and frustrating.

tara49 congratulations! I do think you're mad though, having 5...Grin

Irishmammybread · 22/04/2014 10:29

Hi gum ! Lovely to hear from you ! I'm due to go in for induction in a few days,I'm 39+5 today. I just can't wait to have baby safely here now. Hope life is going well for you xxx
JBrd how frustrating for you having the Harmony fail again! Have you decided if you'll have the CVS tomorrow or wait? It's such a difficult decision to make, let us know how you get on.
Brie those are brilliant results, you must feel relieved.
Congratulations tara on baby Jedidiah!

BriePate · 22/04/2014 11:41

dats hope you are all doing well with your lovely newborn!

tara congratulations on baby Jedidiah - what a lovely name! Hope you're all well and enjoying the chaos Grin

Good luck with TTC gum - hopefully you'll be expecting very soon.

Hope you're well notaflaming - is your 12-week scan coming up soon?

Irish the best of luck with your induction this week. How exciting! Looking forward to hearing your good news!

Jbrd hope you're doing ok, and thinking of you for tomorrow if you've opted for the CVS.

Hi to everyone else!

AFM I've now told people in RL about pg and everyone has been lovely (there seem to be a lot of big families here!) Not told my mum yet though Blush, how old do I have to be to stop worrying about what my mother thinks/says?! Anomaly scan coming up in a couple of weeks, so I now have that to worry about! I think this pg will be just relentless worrying until the baby arrives [sigh]

regularbutpanickingabit · 23/04/2014 08:30

peeks around the door
Room for 1 more in here please?!

Still shocked having found out I am pg with number 3 at 41. Years of infertility and 6 m/c so really didn't expect this. Kids are heading out of primary school soon. Eek!

I am 6+2 so early days. On loads of meds because of previous problems and hoping to see consultant in the next couple of weeks.

To be honest this feels very strange and dh and I are panicking a bit about money. We are due to move house this year (schools) and the extra cost is a nightmare.

On the other hand, we always wanted a bigger family and after so much heartache we are thrilled there might be a new person coming to us.

Help!

IAteSomeofthePies · 23/04/2014 11:50

Hi All. Sorry to desert, but we went away on holiday and then I kept forgetting to do that password reset when not on my phone.

Welcome, regular! Congrats on your pregnancy.

Happy new babies, Guthrie, Dats and Tara! What a bumper crop! And not long for you either, Irish.

JBrd thinking of you today. I hope all goes well if you've decided to go ahead with the CVS.

Brie congrats on the good results.

I hope all are well.

I had my 20 week scan last week, and everything was great. Thank goodness. I was in a total state with the scan doom beforehand. I had a consultant appt yesterday where I found out that I'll be having extra scans, so they're treating me like a higher BMI patient than I am, I think because my age and my thyroid condition are extra factors. I was embarrassed at first and my instinct was to insist that I should be in the lower category, but then I thought that I should just go with their judgment and get some extra scans!

JBrd · 23/04/2014 13:52

Welcome regular, happy that you can join us! The first few days/weeks after the BFP are always so confusing... But hopefully you'll be able to just enjoy it all very soon.

IAte Don't be embarrassed about getting extra care, for whatever reason! The more the better, I'd say.

Hello lovely! Thanks for asking!

I have decided to have amnio instead of CVS, even though it means I will have to wait until next week. But the slightly lower mc risk outweighs the extra time for me - I've been waiting for one thing or another for so long now, 1-2 more weeks really don't make much of a difference.
I'm not sure if I will have the amnio at my hospital here or at the FMC in London, with Prof Nicolaides. I know that he's one of the best, but I have been getting excellent care at my hospital and feel much better looked after there. The risk they quote you is the same, they won't give you a consultant-specific risk (fair enough, but it would help!). Currently booked in at both places, keeping all my options open. Giving myself until Friday to make up my mind...
Having said that, both places have said that if I change my mind there and then, that is absolutely fine.

regularbutpanickingabit · 23/04/2014 20:12

Thanks for the welcome. Had a bit of brown spotting this evening which could mean it is over or it could mean nothing at all. Just wish I could find out either way having been in both positions before.

BriePate · 24/04/2014 10:17

regular welcome and congratulations! Sorry to hear you've had spotting, especially given your previous history - so sorry to hear what a horrible time you've had and for your previous losses. I hope that it's stopped now. Would it be possible to arrange for an early scan?

Good to see you back IAte and hope you had a good holiday. Excellent news about the scan, another hurdle jumped! Think the extra scans are a good thing and definitely no need to feel bad about it. It will also give you peace of mind throughout. I'm also seeing consultant in a few weeks because of previous prem births and age.

Jbrd sounds like a good plan waiting for the amnio - as you say pg is a waiting game anyway and one worry is replaced by another. Good luck with your decision about where to have it done. Your local hospital sounds fab, and it's the whole package which is important so that you also feel well-cared for. Sure the consultant there will be just as skilled as Prof N. Hopefully you will be reassured very soon with your results.

Thinking of you Irish!

regularbutpanickingabit · 24/04/2014 13:43

Thanks Brie. Yes, having a scan tomorrow now so will know more then.

IAteSomeofthePies · 24/04/2014 18:59

Regular I hope your scan goes well tomorrow. I'm so sorry that you have this worry.

JBrd You've made at least one of your tough decisions re: amnio/CVS. You're on a roll. I hope you get some clarity on your local vs FMC decision.

Brie re: your earlier question, I'm still worried about what my Mother says/ thinks. So my evidence is that you have to be older than 41!

No pressure, but waiting for some exciting news from you, Irish

JBrd · 25/04/2014 13:36

regular Good luck with your scan today, fingers crossed it will be good news!

htbftm · 25/04/2014 14:19

hi all! Just thought I d check in and say hi! Tootling along at 6+5, so not much to report lol! Great news on the test results Brie, and good luck for the amnio Jbrd - I ll have my fingers crossed for you! I had my consultant apt through today but not til end of June, when I ll be 15+ wks. Was hoping for something sooner, as now wont have an appt til 13 wks, tho I guess that's normal! xx

regularbutpanickingabit · 25/04/2014 14:58

We have a heartbeat!

IAteSomeofthePies · 25/04/2014 15:35

Hurrah, Regular! That is brilliant news!

Hi, htbftm. I didn't have a consultant appt until after the first scan, either.

htbftm · 25/04/2014 17:19

yay that's fab news regular! :-D How many weeks are you? xx

BriePate · 25/04/2014 18:54

regular that's brilliant news! Congratulations and so relieved for you!

Hi there htbftm! Presumably you'll have booking in appt soon with midwife? But it is a long wait for the first scan. Hope you're doing well in these early weeks.

Grin IAte! So there's no hope with my mother when I turn 41 at the end of the year then? May just announce the birth to her when the baby arrives Hmm

I'm now 19 weeks and not really feeling any movements. I felt them early on last 3, and it feels like I should be feeling things by now. Thank goodness scan is coming up soon.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
