Already planning something special for bringing our bundle of joy home in and I just wondered what and where people are shopping for cute newborn clothing? I LOVE Boden but its very expenses however the first outfit should be a treat, for everyone, shouldn't it? All cute ideas very welcome...

seriously

withint the hour it will be covered in either sick or poo

LittlePinkMouse · 14/02/2013 16:20

Boy, girl or surprise?

LittlePinkMouse · 14/02/2013 16:22

Awww gymboy don't be a killjoy!

I loved choosing my babies first outfits, its little thoughts like this that get you through those awful last weeks!

And its nice to keep their first outfit!

Booyhoo · 14/02/2013 16:22

will there be a welcoming party to recieve the baby at home?

Meglet · 14/02/2013 16:23

Sainsburys babygrow. Blanket.

Newborns can get mega-poo on an outfit within minutes. Fancy clothes are a waste of time and energy!

mamabrownbear · 14/02/2013 16:23

We know we are having a girl. LOL to the poo comment. Ah the things that don't even cross my mind having never had a baby before!

I put DS in outfit that my best friend bought for him in a fit of excitement when i told her I was pregnant.

Totally didn't fit him and he could hardly move poor thing Grin

Don't forget you may well be bought a traditional shawl or similar.

LittlePinkMouse · 14/02/2013 16:25

this looks cute but comfy

christmasmum · 14/02/2013 16:27

Lol, I planned lovely outfits... On advice bought a 0-3 month outfit for my expected dd who came out so tiny that it drowned her. Learning from my mistake I then bought a newborn size outfit for my expected ds. He was then over 9lbs and it wouldn't even do up. He was like medallion man! My advice is to save the special outfit for first trip out or similar and then it can be really special (and fit her).

HappyJoyful · 14/02/2013 16:28

outfit ? your wee precious bundle will hopefully only be matter of hours / day(s)... surely a babygrow will be fine as others say ? Honestly think it will be last thing on your mind when you're trying to leave hospital after birth to be thinking about 'dressing' your newborn.

LittlePinkMouse · 14/02/2013 16:29

OH MY GOSH, NOT PRACTICAL BUT SO SO CUTE!

ScooseIsLoose · 14/02/2013 16:29

Emile et rose stuff is gorgeous for little ones you can buy it at john Lewis. this is cute or this

Booyhoo · 14/02/2013 16:30

in reality all you're doing is putting her in the car and carrying her to the house. no-one's going to see her. keep the outfit so that it's clean for an outing or when people visit.

minicreamegg · 14/02/2013 16:33

babygro and cardigan for my DC's when I left hospital and for the next month

Camwombat · 14/02/2013 16:40

We had been lent pretty much everything we could need, but I decided I wanted a nice new patterned babygro (it came from Asda i think) for ds when he was born. Its in all the pictures from the hospital, and there it ended he ended up meeting my family in a loaned babygro having been sick on his "meet and greet" outfit in the car on the way from the hospital.
Dont spend alot of money on something fancy. DS now (at 19months) is generally in nearly new or supermarket clothes.

curiousgeorgie · 14/02/2013 16:41

I just bought a 'special' babygrow to bring my DD home in, with a matching hat. From mamas & papas i think. Looks lovely in photos.

And just FYI, not all babies cover everything in sick and poo. My DD was sick twice ever in her first year, and all I ever had to throw away due to a stain were two cheap white vests after she'd been really ill.

usernamegoeshere · 14/02/2013 16:44

I got this

bunny romper & tutu

Sorry won't let me link it individually, but its 2nd down on the right.

NewYearNewBoo · 14/02/2013 16:46

We didn't know what we were having, so while I was in hospital after DS2, I gave DS1 some money to choose an outfit to buy for DS1 to travel home in, I think it helped him feel part of it all. I shall do the same after the birth of dc#3, I shall send my DS's out (with DH of course) for the going home outfit.

ISingSoprano · 14/02/2013 16:47

My dc just wore babygros home from hospital but they also both wore a cardigan knitted by my MIL. Dc are now 17 and 14 but I still have the cardigan.

nickelbabe · 14/02/2013 16:49

a coming home outfit ?
whatever next???

well, we didn't expect to go into hospital at all, so DD was wearing a vest, a hat and a baby grow that had been washed in the hospital sink twice.
and a nappy, obviously.

nickelbabe · 14/02/2013 16:50

can't even remember if she was in a cardigan.
definitely a lovely green blanket that went a manky grey colour when it was washed for the first time at home.

Dogsmom · 14/02/2013 17:03

I haven't bought anythign special either, I've just packed a few babygrows in newborn size, I've been in and out of hospital the last week for monitoring and every time have seen newborns leaving in their carseats and they all have babygrows on, a hat, mitts and a blanket over them.

Paradisefound · 14/02/2013 17:03

Debenhams .. John rocha and jasper Conan have some cute outfits, not the cheapest, might be a sale on just now. My baby boy will be coming home in a Jasper Conran cutie...yes I know it's gonna get covered in all sorts..but this is my first, so why not. Frugi have some cute stuff..even more expensive tho! Good to get various sizes as baby could be too big/long for newborn..and sizes differ from store to store. Have fun!

Shellywelly1973 · 14/02/2013 17:12

I bought all of mine a special outfit to come home in.

Nothing very expensive but cute.

This current baby will be born at home so i will have to find another excuse for a cute outfit!

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 14/02/2013 17:24

A friend bought us a beautiful grey set of romper material dungarees with a little white and grey t shirt underneath - It was lovely and comfy and I washed it all ready and put it in my bag along with a jeff load of blankets, grows and vests -

Nothing fit (He was 11lb 13oz) ... I actually sobbed (hormone central) - The poor midwife tried to console me, I was taking DS home to meet all of Dhs family and I thought they would all judge me for him not being in a lovely outfit - They actually all commented on how nice it was to see a baby in a white babygrow, that also made me sob ha ha
