Already planning something special for bringing our bundle of joy home in and I just wondered what and where people are shopping for cute newborn clothing? I LOVE Boden but its very expenses however the first outfit should be a treat, for everyone, shouldn't it? All cute ideas very welcome...

Ds came home at 8pm in a white sleep suit. Dd was similar. Then we all went to bed!

She'll be under a blanket. Buy a nice hat because at least that will be visible.

My first had a special dress to come hom in, still got it somewhere, second, can't actually recall, this one will have something special to come home in. maybe it's where I come from but it's very common to have something that bit special.

yah boo sucks to all the killjoys on this thread [blows raspberries]

I bought all 0-3 too but even though DS was 8-13 it was all massive on him so he had empty feet flapping over the end of the car seat :)

is it just me or did anyone else find the 'coming home' with your first newborn a real anti climax/underwhelming experience?

admittedly i was 19 at the time and really didn't know how i'd feel at all but the reality was that i was so pissed off with being in pain (down below) and awful cramping and exhausted after having not slept for 3 nights that i really just wanted to get home and go to bed. i lived with my parents and younger sister at the time and they were lovely and stopped as we were leaving the hospital to show off their new grandson (my mum works in the maternity hospital so this baby was famous before it was born!), and then again at the florist's on the way home to get me a lovely bunch of flowers and then again at the chip shop to get some dinner. it took over an hour and a half to get home and felt like 3 hours to me. my sister rabbitting on the whole journey about her new nephew and all the places she'd take him and asking how many times he woke up last night and how he better not do it tonight or he'd be sorry. by the time we got through the door at home, ds was sleeping, the food was cold and i just wanted to drop where i stood. i know how much of a misery guts i sound BTW Grin

I put on their best babygrow. They both looked lovely and it wasn't a faff.

Personally I think buying a special outfit is a waste of time and money. I'm just going to put mine in a white baby grow and wrap in a lovely hand knitted fleece blanket. Newborns look so cute in plain babygrows, all new looking :-)

Cute babygrow with ducks on it that I'd bought after a midwife appt. I've kept it in a little memory box for when she's older. It's a special moment and one I felt needed to be marked somehow! Good luck

Oh come on! Allow the OP a bit of excitement. So what if she wants a special outfit, nothing wrong with it.

OP, agree with pp about debenhams - not as good as they used to be though. Vertbaudet do some cute bits too but tbh you can't beat next or mothercare

With regards to the outfit go for something cute but not fussy/fiddly. If you're anything like me you'll be all fingers and thumbs to start with so the fewer buttons and different bits there are the better.
Also dresses or dungarees can be better than trousers until the umbilical cord comes off

I had a outfit to take the baby home in but she was smaller than I expected and 0-3 did not fit. Might want to think about that before you pay out!

I've bought a nice sleep suit from next. It says born in 2013 on it and I thought it was cute so bought it then decided to use that as going home outfit.

Can't believe how grumpy some of you lot are!! We are all aware how difficult having a newborn can be, why on earth shouldn't we get a little excited over stuff like this?? I'm only going to get to do this the once and I'm bloody well going to make the most of it!!

Our little miracle is a surprise, so have just picked up a cute Winnie the Pooh babygrow from Asda. Not much faff but gorgeous - can't wait to put it on him or her :)

I did a tie dyed baby grow, I used blue ink and made one with loads of circles made of rubber bands. I did a blue one for my son and kept it for my daughter so I have pictures of them both as babies lying on my shoulder in the same outfit looking quite similar.

I thought this would be about your own outfit! Seriously, babygro. They're not dolls to dress up. They just need to be warm enough and comfortable. And it's not like will be a party to greet them (surely?!) so why stuff a little newborn into something structured?

Boo the grumpy people! DS didn't have a 'special outfit' to come home in, but I did save the cutest sleep suit for the journey and a little hat a friend bought. The sleep suit had little London buses and taxis on it. He looked lovely and I felt incredibly proud even though the only people who saw it was me and my DH!

I bought a special sleep suit. One was from next I think the other was from John Lewis.

My second didnt end up wearing it, because she was tiny and only fit in to early baby clothes at first!

Cath Kidston does some nice bits that are a bit pricey, but not outragous.

I stuffed DS2 into his outfit which I had bought in a fit of hormones. Lovely knitted babygro from Next. He was bursting out of it but I was fucking determined....

Just ignore all the cats bum faces. The Pregnancy area appears to attract them. Never saw anything like this on the Conception area, I have to say. Miserable twats. Also, wtf white babygro. They make babygros in different colours these days people. It's actually 2013! Women can vote and EVERYTHING.
I hate how so many people are so blasted negative and finickety about pregnancy and new babies. GET A GRIP. It's a baby, not a bomb.

Take two outfits, one in newborn size, one in 0-3 months. So many folk on this thread have said they were upset when they'd bought the outfit in the wrong size for their baby. I'll be taking a lovely sleepsuit in newborn size for if she's that size, and I'll also be taking a dress/leggings set in 0-3 in case that's more appropriate.

Actually knowing me, I'll probably take several sleepsuits, bodysuits, rompers, outfits, bibs, hats, etc... At least I'll be prepared...

Forgot to add some links - I absolutely adore this ladybird sleepsuit from Next - £10 though, bit bonkers. I've bought some gorgeous Next sleepsuits from eBay instead. Their designs are lovely though.
Oooh actually Asda have their own version of a ladybird sleepsuit - here for £6 - every little helps, not to mix my supermarket slogans...

I also really like this floral Asda all in one, with matching hat - really like a lot of Asda and Tesco's baby clothing, not quite as distinctive as Next's ranges in some cases, but still extraordinarily cute (must be difficult to make ugly clothing for babies) and much more reasonably priced.

I got loads of nice things second hand from ebay, for both. Ds first wore an Arsenal babygro (!), went home in a baby blue Armani suit. DD 1st wore a vest with pink roses on it and little footed trousers - not exactly what I'd planned, but the smallest of the (large) selection of things I had brought. Scans are not very accurate re size of baby! I found "bundler" nighties very useful, also footed trousers good with vests as a little outfit (no socks to lose and not much different to a vest and babygro in terms of comfort and simplicity)

Dressing up babies isn't really my thing (but to be honest, that's probably because I barely put any effort into dressing up myself!)

It didn't occur to me last time to get anything 'special' for taking DS home from hospital, other than hand knitted shawl that my mums friend had knitted for him (as it transpired DH picked up the wrong woolly bundle, so it was a blanket instead)

So, we had him in white body/suit and sleepsuit and will be reusing all his clothes on this bundle (regardless of its gender!) so it will be wearing the same, and sadly, since its a May baby don't think I'll get any use out of the shawl :-(

Well I will really get the cat bums faces going as not only have I bought lots of blue & pink stuff (baby is a surprise) it all has slogans (gasp!) on it Wink

We have lots of "keep calm and love mummy/daddy" etc.
