Can I somehow stop my belly button from popping out?

Im 24 weeks pregnant. Over the last few days I've noticed my belly button getting flatter and it feels as if it might 'pop' outward very soon. It's painful and feels very sensitive, almost as if somebody is poking their finger INTO my belly button. I know this sounds stupid, is there any trick I can use to prevent it coming out? Oh it's just so ICK.

Grin erm no!! It will stretch and get flatter as your bump grows but really if you try and push it in you're going to damage it and the skin. Just add it to the list of creepy and unpleasant things which pregnancy causes and which no-one warns you about!

Although actually if it hurts try moisturising the skin and all the bump regularly. It helps increase elasticity and makes that stretchy pain lessen.

Thanks. I can't bear to touch it or look at it. I knew it was a possibility that it might pop out but I'm so grossed out by it, I might just throw up. Blush

If it makes you feel any better mine went back in after. It's only temporary.

SirBoobAlot · 25/10/2012 02:13

Fantastic thread title Grin

Afraid not. It will go back in once baby is born!

blackcurrants · 25/10/2012 02:20

Mine just went flat, and shallow, but it was still very very ick. Slather on the cream, it will go back I promise!

I feel for you Mizzy, I have such a problem with sticky-outs too......

Happybunny12 · 25/10/2012 02:40

Yes - the baby, when it arrives!

cynister · 25/10/2012 03:02

I stuck a hello kitty plaster on mine..

EggsMichelle · 25/10/2012 08:27

Mine looks especially grim as in have kept a soft bar in my piercing and no have an outy with very ugly stretch marks over the bar!!!

FlangelinaBallerina · 25/10/2012 10:03

It might not actually pop out. Mine never did, even though it looked like it was going to at times. I do have a very deep one, which possibly has something to do with it, but you might get lucky too.

Flangelina, really? There is hope then, 'outies' terrify me.

InherentlyCantankerous · 25/10/2012 10:59

Mine didn't pop out, it flattened and has remained flat ever since... Angry it's the size of a small dinner plate . It might be due to the pound coins I Sellotaped in there as a teenager though.

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 25/10/2012 11:04

Mines never popped out luckily as the thought of it makes me feel sick. I'm 26 weeks with ds4 at the moment and am pretty sure it's not suddenly going to burst out and surprise me.

I think I have quite a deep belly button though. Maybe that's why.

EdsRedeemingQualities · 25/10/2012 11:04

Well you can try and prevent it being permanent by not lifting anything heavy, because I did this with ds2 and mine didn't go back in, because the muscles tore and there's a small weakness there now.

After this baby I hope to get it 'repaired' though the thought is quite scary.

I had a lovely one before I had babies Sad

so rest up and do NOT lift heavy 4yo children up the stairs when they are asleep, or try to move wardrobes. And you should be Ok.

FlangelinaBallerina · 25/10/2012 11:06

Yes indeed 3rdtime, and what's more it has gone back to how it was pre-pregnancy, and did so pretty quickly after giving birth. I did pretty much no heavy lifting, which may be part of it.

Splinters · 25/10/2012 11:19

Ugh I hate belly buttons. Mine is on its way out too, I'm just hoping it'll stop before it gets to the point where it pokes out of my clothes.. Plasters seems to be a popular solution but I hate them almost as much!

fraktion · 25/10/2012 11:22

Mine never popped. But it has stretched weirdly now...

CelineMcBean · 25/10/2012 11:23

It depends if you are an inny or an outy. I'm an inny. Mine goes flat and stretched to the point where it almost disappears.

QuenHelle · 25/10/2012 11:40

Mine disappeared completely and reappeared afterwards.

spiderlight · 25/10/2012 11:53

This thread has made me go all squirmy. I HATE touching my bellybutton and can't stand anyone else touching it either, so I dreaded it popping out all through my pregnancy. It did eventually pop out a little bit and it was horrid!!

annajw23 · 25/10/2012 12:26

Hello All,

This may freak some of you out...my belly button is an outie anyway...what will happen to this? It can't get any bigger surely? I'm 14 weeks today...

Anna :)

mojo1981 · 25/10/2012 12:54

makes it easier to clean once its popped out lol TMI i know!

(mine popped out and went back in)

Whatiswitnit · 25/10/2012 13:01

Mine popped out in both pgcies. It was super sensitive in the seccond pregnancy and I couldn't bear it being touched.

readysteadymummy · 25/10/2012 13:52

My belly button popped out- my bump was huge, there was nothing I could do about it! It didn't really go 'back to normal' until I had keyhole surgery 3 weeks ago- the surgeon made it nice again lol!
